  1. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. One problem is the table that holds all the log entries, which currently has 7.1 million rows. Even though I have that well-indexed, it still takes some effort to roll through that. The other thing is the county maps. There's a fair amount of math involved to figure out in what county a cache falls. The county maps are really popular though (a lot of County Challenge caches use my site for verification), so I'd hate to get rid of them. A lot of people are offering to make donations. Thanks, but I'm not going to put the Paypal links back up until I decide what I want to do. I'd hate to have people donate, then I end up paring the site down to a level that's not worth the $$$. Thanks for all the support. It's nice to know my site is this popular!
  2. When I try to upload a KML file from Google Earth for a route, the site pauses while the file is supposedly uploading, then nothing happens. The new route doesn't show up in my list of routes, and the site doesn't give me any sort of an error message to explain why nothing happened. Also, when I try to search for an uploaded route, no matter what keyword I enter, I only get my own uploaded routes as the search result, even if I enter total garbage as the search term.
  3. If the winning bidder is from outside the US, unless it costs $50 to ship to your country, I'll likely ship it anywhere. Unfortunately, it looks like I can't change that option now that the auction has gone live.
  4. I'm just curious what you would charge for shipping to Canada? Nothing additional.
  5. Probably because I enjoy handing eBay my money for insertion fees...
  6. I have an unactivated Garmin Store geocoin which has been sitting in a box since I got it. I finally figured that it would be better off in the possession of someone who really wants to showcase it in their collection, so I decided to put it up for sale. It's now up for grabs on eBay.
  7. I'd guess that the fact that you're logged in means that the site has to make extra database calls to get information that is only shown for logged-in users, as well as information that is custom-derived for you. Because of the current issues, these extra calls are what is making the pages take longer to load. Think about it... Why would Groundspeak throttle the site for paying members? That seems a little backwards...

  9. Have you tried the Delete button?
  10. For Google Maps, unavailable caches are colored in orange, although there's nothing in the legend that actually tells you this: For Pocket Queries, there is an "Is Active" checkbox that you can select to guarantee that you only get caches that are available: I'd be against making it the default, because there's probably just as many people that would like to see the opposite as being the default. You just need to remember to check it whenever you create a query.
  11. Is it today now? It wasn't then, but it might be now. Except in certain parts of Indiana.
  12. What made you decide to sell it now? No particular reason. Actually, I'm planing on selling some other things via eBay and found a Mac app (iSale) to do a lot of the page design work automatically. I wanted to try something simple to see how well it worked, so I decided to try this.
  13. I'm selling a not-sold-in-stores polished gold (not activated) Cheesehead geocoin via eBay: Link to auction page It was originally sold in bronze and copper versions. The gold versions were never put up for public sale; they were only available if you happened to come across a cache in SE Wisconsin where I had secretly dropped one. Happy bidding!
  14. I heard we were going to have a choice between "Geocaching Starter" (For newbies), "Geocaching Home Basic" (For getting the basic features of the site at home), "Geocaching Home Premium" (Access to all the premium features), "Geocaching Business" (Great for surfing the site from work), "Geocaching Enterprise" (For Trek fans?), and "Geocaching Ultimate".
  15. Offended by find counts? Fire up Firefox and Greasemonkey and this Greasemonkey script. It will replace all find counts on log pages with "0" so you don't have to worry about the temptation of judging someone based on their totals.
  16. You have not looked at the site have you. They are totally different. http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com (abbreviated usually as INATN.) When you go to the link above, type in my name in the bottom box to load in my stats. You can then look at all aspects of my finds, more than you can ever imagine. The details given are remarkable. The INATN site only give different displays based on your All Finds query. All it uses is that query alone. Go to "Top 10" linked in the top menu bar. Select Georgia for the state. You can see how I rank against people who have uploaded their All Finds Query also. This site is "opt-in", so only those that have put their All Finds Query are shown (which means Premium Members who took the time to do it). Click on my name on this post and go to my profile page. Look down at the very bottom. The site gives you HTML that you can put in your profile if you want to. (Fixed URL, [DOH!] and clarified my quickly written post.) Yup. While there are some number-crunching macros that you can get for GSAK as well, the big difference is that GSAK only knows about you. I have everybody's numbers, and can therefore do some interesting comparisons to show how you rank against others. Edit: Oh, BTW... read the latest blog entry on INATN. I've put a relief valve back in to alleviate the backlog.
  17. I don't monitor the GC.com forums for INATN issues, so you're better off emailing me via the contact link on the site. The problem is that the background task that processes your GPX uploads runs every two minutes. Turns out my hosting provider wasn't very happy about that and disabled the task. I see they just sent me an email informing me of the fact that their policy is that background tasks can only be scheduled to run every fifteen minutes. I've re-enabled the task to run every fifteen minutes. Please be patient while the backlog slowly unclogs itself.
  18. As far as geocaching goes, the addition of color really doesn't add much. For me, I ended up using my 60CSx for more than geocaching. I've probably used it as a car navigation system far more than I've used it for caching, and the color screen makes it a lot easier to read the screen than my old B&W unit was. I suppose if you opted for topo maps, having color would be a big help.
  19. Hmm. I've been requesting inclusion of the street I live on for years not and it's still not included...
  20. If anything, I'd especially like to see this implemented with uploaded photos. I can imagine that some cachers have thousands of pictures in their galleries, with no good way to view them other than by date.
  21. Inspired by this post... Has any thought ever been given to adding "tagging" as a feature of the site, i.e. adding keywords to things? For example, instead of attributes, caches could have tags like "ticks" or "kid friendly" or "delorme" Pictures could be tagged with "kids" or "winter" or "verification picture" Travel bugs could be tagged with "completed goal" or "washington" or "personal" I could tag my user page with "kenosha" or "wisconsin" or "garmin" With all these tags in place, searching for a term would result in a page broken up by caches, pictures, users, etc. that use the specified tag. All the cool Web 2.0 sites are doing it!
