  1. Shall we make this our CITO spot, Centre County Cachers? 'Linus, what's our next step? Whom should I call? I imagine we'll need a meeting time and place, I can post that here after I've talked to someone "in charge" of Greens Valley Road. Let me know what I need to do next to keep this going. 2. No time to study it now, but I'll definitely be checking in with these folks, to see if we can organize a clean up. Oh and I MADE A MISTAKE ABOUT THE DATE! Earth Day is on the 22nd, yes, but the great clean up is on Saturday the 26th of April. Let me say that again. THE CACHE IN TRASH OUT EVENT IS ON APRIL 26TH!! thank you. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  3. who used the correct word: oriented. "Orientated" is not a word. Really. Trust me on this. I mean, would you say "I salivateted over the chipped beef on toast"? Of course not. That stuff tastes like crap. Many thanks for your time and understanding. I'll get back on the meds soon. 4. I like a cache that's obviously been well thought out. Either including parking coords and landmarks or stating why they aren't including those (finding the best approach is up to the cacher, for instance). Saying why they picked this particular spot and things to watch for as you seek the cache. A clever hiding spot, something unusual (fake stumps, up in trees or rock walls, etc.). And a long enough hike that I feel I've accomplished something-- a mile and a half, at least. Just my two bits. 5. quote: Wouldn't it make our sport look GREAT if there were cleanups all on the same day at Presque Isle in Erie, Raccoon Creek west of Pittsburgh, Keystone near Greensburg/Johnstown, and other state parks in the Harrisburg, York, State College, Wilkes-Barre Scranton and Philadelphia areas? With apologies to JFK, ask not what your parks can do, ask what you can do for your parks! Now's the time to step up, folks! The days go much too quickly and April 22nd will be barreling down on us before we know it. So grab some fellow geocachers, your family, your friends, your pets (dogs can pack out trash!) and stake a claim on a local park. Check back here to sound off about what you're doing and when and perhaps we can show the parks folk that we're *just* what they need. 6. check out the topic over in the general forum and then come back here with some ideas. I was wondering whom to contact to find out which parks really need some cleaning. Does anyone know? This would be a great opportunity for a picnic (although a bit chilly, I'm sure): would anyone care to help out? Is someone organizing an event in (somewhat) central PA onto which this CITA for Earth Day could piggy-back? What about it folks? 7. quote: I hear Buzzbe is shining up the new "coon" light already! How soon until we see this? I gotta go back *out* in that?? sigh. okay. I'll try for this week-end... 8. quote: Uh ohhh! We better make this good Enfanta? Them cachers up North are good! May have to increase the difficulty! LOL If necessary, we can run the hunt at night and use pen caps for cache containers... maybe we'll blind-fold 'em... BUT FIRST WE HAVE TO LOSE THE SNOW!! 9. I'll say it and don't care WHO knows: 170 pounds, 5'4", size 8 feet, not narrow, not wide. You can ship those snow shoes to POB 1313, State College, PA 16801. ha HA! I shall be watching for them!! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  10. maybe they're UNICEF caches... X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  11. You can more than suggest snow shoes. You can buy me a pair. Size 8 or so... thanks! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  12. ...with a good ol' sweat! (ewww!) I just don't enjoy snow caching-- it's too difficult to figure out where to start looking when there are several dozen "promising" snow-covered blobs; limitless choice kinda takes the fun out of it. But I wanted to do *something* cache-like so I've decided to set a night-only cache. Got myself some reflective pins from WallyWorld, pulled on about 17 layers and took off for the snow-covered Barrens. UGH! I walked only half a mile in and by the time I got out of there I was thoroughly exhausted. Sweatin' like a pig and about ready to drop. Mucking through a foot of dense snow is hard work. So, my cabin fever's gone. I'm more than ready to sit inside watching MST3K until the snow's all gone! (Except now I have to set that cache!) 13. YES! That'd be great. I'm so disappointed in this weather. I was hoping to go and scout a course tomorrow but with freezing rain predicted that doesn't seem likely. I haven't abandoned this idea and obviously Salvelinus is still interested so, as he says, stay tuned, folks! (Enough snow drifts out there for ya, Salvelinus?) 14. deetylong, the only reason I didn't choose that lovely micro on campus is I feared it would be covered in snow...perhaps I was wrong. Maybe I'll check up on it on the way home tonight! 'linus, I thought the Serenity cache would be "easy" enough to find in the deep snow but of course getting there would be the challenge! okay, I'll shut up now! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  15. Nothing wrong with spreading a good idea around. Going back through my cache list, these seem possible in the snow: Pill Bottle Cache Snake Den Cache Serenity Shingletown Climb Now, *getting* to them could be a challenge! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  16. ...but good luck getting us all in one place at one time! You should have enough lead time to get a picnic together: we won't have any decent weather for at least 5 months! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  17. So this be a "locationless" cache, then. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  18. ahhh, life is sweet! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  19. Those two caches are a great help. I'm a bit disappointed, though, that I can't find them using the search feature. Any recommendations along those lines?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  20. Hi, all. I've been trying to find posts relating to caching at night, specifically those caches which cannot be found during daylight. I've searched "night caches" and "night caching" which got no results and "caching at night" which got too many responses and the engine stopped searching. I want to set a night cache and would like to look at some that are already in place. Any suggestions on how to find these?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  21. quote: I have had a number of occassions where I have attempted to look or feel in small areas. I of course used sticks or other items to check the hole or crack first... Anyone else giggling over this?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  22. Travel+Leisure has a blurb on geocaching in their February 2003 issue. They got it a bit wrong, though. They said that for every cache you find you have to hide one. YIPES! I think they confused "cache" with "trinket." X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  23. Got some maps that make sense. Now, to get the rust off that chain and tighten the brakes on my bike!! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  24. running out the door, had to say: dog ticks probably don't carry Lyme so much as Spotted? Rocky? Mountain fever. Probably different symptoms. Doctor's advice is your best bet here. Leave it be until Doc can see it. Good luck!! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
