  1. Fox Hunt is an event cache! Hope to see you there!
  2. You'll survive without shocks, believe me. If you're looking to save money, you probaby don't need the shocks. That's what your elbows and knees are for!
  3. Oh, great. First its BGH in my milk and now I've got to be looking over my shoulder for Leatherman?? thanks. Just thanks. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  4. YAY!! Those were the ones I was wondering about. Came straight here, I'll go check my caching page and see what's up. Should I report to geocaching.com that I still haven't received a confirmation email?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  5. I submitted two caches for approval today and did not get an email notification that they were received. Now, on the first one I listed my name with others so I could see where an automated reply could be confused but the second one was just me alone. Am I not supposed to get some sort of confirmation that my request for cache approval has been received?? 6. I've just submitted the Fox Hunt as an event cache ("Tally-Ho!"). Let's hope it's approved! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  7. quote: I have a sister-n-law that is very liberal. Asked her if we didn't cut down trees, how were we going to build houses? She really didn't have an answer. Strawbale!! Renews much more quickly than trees. Oh, and thank god for those responsible leaders of industry: we can always use more mercury in our water! 8. Sorry for the confusion. The Fox Hunt is a GO. I don't care if I'm the only person out there, the Fox Hunt is going forward at 1 pm on the 19th. Salvelinus and I are debating between two locations but they're close to each other so if you plan on being in State College by 1:00 on the 19th, you'll be set. I'll be posting *exact* coordinates before the week-end is over. The ifs and maybes were about posting this as an event cache but even that is now definite: this afternoon I will be asking this to be posted as an event cache. I'm pleased you're still interested and hey! --anyone else who's interested out there feel free to join in!! I hope to see you all on the 19th! 9. Oh, yes. A union. Just what geocaching needs. Then I can pay money for the privilege of working and have TWO authorities standing over me, neither of which has my best interests at heart. Gosh, where do I sign up?? And what about a "Boys of Geocaching"? Let's objectify BOTH genders! We could have pictures of manly men straddling caches as they beefily clutch their GPS in one hand and a dead bear in the other. Waddya say, gals?
  10. For me, the search for the cache is 60% of the fun. Heck, make it 80%. I love getting out to places I've never been before and appreciate the efforts of cachers who have found great parks and/or sites. But the most fun is the search. An unusual container, something "hidden in plain sight," or a really clever hiding spot is what makes it fun for me. I'm discouraged by the crackdown on what can and cannot be hidden and I've started encouraging others to hide them anyway. So what if we can't post them here? We're in it for the hunt, not the numbers, right? This cache sounds interesting. I hope it gets approved. But if it doesn't go ahead and set it anyway and let your locals know. I bet they appreciate your efforts. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.

  12. quote: My curiosity was piqued so I did a quick look see. Three cheers for Harrald! Hip hip HOORAY! Hip hip HOORAY! Hip hip HOORAY! Why am I cheering? Harrald knew the correct spelling for "piqued." What a rare and lovely moment... 13. Why is it so hard for some to put them back the way they found them? Well, why not ask them? Frankly, I ALWAYS cover up the cache afterwards. I find six or seven sticks and line them up neatly on top of the cache. I find this helps "camoflauge" the cache. Then, to be sure people aren't attracted to the site, I rake out the immediate area around the cache. Finally, I cut off or tie back any branches or brambles that might obscure the cache site, so anyone looking can clearly see there's nothing there! Then I can leave the cache, confident I have done my part for geocaching. 14. quote: We did seven caches that day and on one I found out what a T.B. shortcut was. The only down side is that I did seven caches that I couldn’t log. Travel Bug shortcut?? And why can't you log the caches you found? Have they been archived? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  15. Putting the finishing touches on my cache last night I heard the weather report and thought 'I really need to go out there tonight and set this!' and yet I denied that we'd really get anything like a REAL snowfall. So I went to bed. Woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. Except it's NOT winter and all I'm wondering is when the #*^$& snow is going to GO AWAY!!! 16. This sounds like a lot of fun! Definitely make them ante up (cash or otherwise). Good luck! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  17. quote: A well hidden cache leaves no trace. I think that sums up the whole argument perfectly. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  18. THOSE BASTARDS!!!! New forums deleted my post. Suffice to say, the fox hunt is going forward on the 19th. If I can get two other people to say they will definitely be there, then I will post a caching event. Otherwise, I'll be there in ears and tail (don't believe me? Show up and find out)! Where is there? There is the small park whose name I've never learned off Circleville Road in State College, PA. You can't miss it. It's the ONLY park on Circleville Road, right in the middle of a bunch of fields. Hope to see you there about noon on the 19th!
  19. eww! Ick! It's ugly!!!! And it's hard to read. Gimme back the old formatting and keep the new features. My eyes hurt now... AND I'M NOT MALE!! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  20. This is the first. Try it out and see how it goes. I know it's a bit rushed but I'm impatient to try it! I was especially hoping the Leprechauns could be there because I recall you had some interesting ideas on how to set up the caches. If you can't join us, could you send me your thoughts? And if this goes well, yes, I will organize another hunt later in the summer. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  21. Over in organizaed geocaching I've been trying to rally participants for a fox hunt. I've picked April 19th as the go date. Anyone care to join in?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  22. I plan to post the event on-line as soon as it's clear that the date works for a couple key people. The announcement cards in the caches are not meant to replace on-line advertising. I know this will come as a shock to you but some folks cache and don't post to the forums! GASP! It's these folks I'm trying to reach. PS (If I could get a local caching organization together, it wouldn't be necessary to advertise in the caches! ) Thanks all! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  23. Would it be okay to leave cards announcing an event in local caches? And do I need to collect all of them once the event is over?? X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  24. Got this off of map quest I realize that's a heck of a trip for an untried event. I understand if that's too far to go but gosh it'd be fun to have you here! X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
  25. although I wish I could filter them out of my caches yet to be found list. But I'm not into geocaching for the driving. I want to hike and get out in nature and explore new territory. Not drive around looking for a parking space so I can get out and look at a thing. X is for X, and X marks the spot, On the rug in the parlor, The sand in the lot, Where once you were standing, And now you are not.
