  1. Ohhh ok thanks for the tip about the filter. Yeah I usually log trackables right away. I think thats what I'll do since i always have my phone anyway.
  2. Ok heres a question. I can log a cache found and make a comment on the cache on my gc but how to i get it to log the find on the site or am i not able to? I ran a pq for some caches and went out and tried my gps for the first time(i'd been using my android and will have to get used to the simple mapping on here but glad i wont be draining my phone battery.) I didnt use the field notes option, i just marked it as found and it asked if i wanted to add a comment, is that just for my reference on the device itself? If i go out and find a bunch of caches and log them on my gps am i gonna have to figure out which ones i did and log them manually on the site as well? Or is this something that would take time to update to the site orrr?
  3. Awww the one near me has been archived just outside the franklin park zoo.
  4. I wanted to go caching this past sunday but then thought of the ticks i got recently and decided a trip to wooded areas was not actually in our best interest.
  5. You know I JUST commented on this very subject over on a letterboxing site. All summer(and we were going through woods and grass as high as my chest) and fall before the snow hit up here in MA on halloween, not a tick on me at all. Dog only picked up 2 visible ticks and hubby had one embed(dog tick). Even prior to this year I have hardly ever gotten a tick despite how much wooded area we romp through(fishing hiking etc). I usually check. After the snow and the warm up, tick heaven. I went to a park to do some boxing(found the caches there already) because it was a nice day out, found at least 4 deer ticks(apparently all female ones. had to look it up because they had an orangey color on the back of them) on me including a wee baby one on my pants. Had them between my layers of clothing. I all but stripped in the little zoo area they have in the park just to tick check. Another nearby local park just walking around, two more small deer ticks. Never seen this many ticks at once in my life. Let alone in the in the span of two days. Perhaps I'm just not in the grassy areas or such in the fall much. i dont know but I swear its crazy right now.
  6. interesting. Save it alive? on a side note, I got my box today as well.
  7. You could probably stick a bit of epoxy behind it too for extra measures.
  8. ah thanks! i always forget to look under there. Probably since i cant create bookmark lists or favorites etc etc So I tend to skip over it. Though it makes perfect sense that the watchlist would be under lists. No idea why i never think to look there. lol
  9. Ok this boggles me everytime. WHERE can i click to easily access my watch list. I can NEVER seem to find this link. Usually i end up having to watch another cache just to get to my list. I think one time i may have stumbled upon the link. But for the life of me I cannot remember where to find this.
  10. yeah I've just started finding some. in my immediate area. lol. Went out today to find one... apparently lost my house key sometime this morning. Had to climb in my window like a creeper.
  11. I believe it's this letterbox: The Lobster Shack http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=46857 You will need to set up a free account to log it online. I have an account there and am logged in but that link gave me an unauthorized to view page. probably why i didnt see it when i searched for it on the site.
  12. I've actually stumbled upon letter boxes and cache by accident quite a few times before I even got into it. I was going to actually go look for a letterbox thats right near my house this morning but apparently there were 3 school buses in the parking lot. Guess I'm checking back later. Too bad there really arent any hybrids around here for me to check out. At least not that I saw.
  13. Oh i didnt realize some letterboxes are word of mouth only ones. Thats interesting and good to know. I didnt happen to note who had written in it etc etc. Just happen to be up there the only time we got to go to maine this summer, or well fall. haha. Come to think of it I may have seen it when ive been up there before but not actually write in it. I dont think. lol. But thanks for the advice.
  14. I had a quextion about a letter box I found while looking for this cache: http://coord.info/GC1CPWJ And by looking i meant glance around as there is zip for service up there. I checked on the site mentionedi n the beginning of the thread but didnt seems to see one that fit. Theres a big lobster stamp inside and i think it was called the lobster shack letterbox. Or at least in the box it said that. I logged in the book but i would be interested in logging it online as well.
  15. I jsut saw this deal come up on twitter via dealsplus. Funny i saw it here first. haha.
  16. A favorite of many letterboxers is the pink stuff by Speedball, called Speedy Carve. Some Michaels stores carry Speedy Carve. ( Don't by Speedball's Speedy Cut - awful crumbly stuff). I use Nasco Safety Kut - comes in various sizes and it's a good price. But some carvers don't like it - they feel it doesn't carve smoothly. Many letterboxers love Firm Kut by Stampeaz. I find it to be hard to push through. I've seen very intricate stamps with fine lines carved out of Firm Kut. For smaller stamps you can use vinyl erasers which you can get at the dollar store. I've had good results with the pink Big Mistakes erasers and they're a good size (about 2"x6"). I was looking for that big eraser just yesterday but didnt see it in the stores i went to haha. I figure I'll start with the eraser method and see how i like it first before getting some regular stamp carving material.THanks for this list!
  17. I havent seen any hybrids near me sadly. Though I do remember stumbling upon one in a park one day, again not near me. lol. I should probably check out the letterboxing site though. I'd love to see more hybrids around here. Just kinda got into the whole stamp carving thing. Fun stuff. Get funky, thats a neat idea.
  18. I love the signiture cards and I collect them. There may be some who leave them instead of signing the log, but I think that is rare. Everyone I know who leaves a signiture item (whether it is a wooden nickle, homemade clay item, signiture card or whatever) also signs the log. I just wish people would laminate the cards if they leave them. Unprotected cards do seem to turn to mush after a short while. But then I have seen a few wooden nickles that were wet and ruined also. Yes. Pretty much all the cards ive seen in caches around here are pretty much turned to litter. Damp, wrinkeld etc. Def would hold up better if laminated.
  19. Those frogs are really cool. Do you make those? Yeah I do. heh. It's fun making them and coming up with diff color combos. I have one hanging on my geocaching backpack as well.
  20. I like leaving one of my beaded frogs in the cache. Sometimes I with leave other kids type swag as well or stuff i might have traded out at other caches as well. http://twitpic.com/6krp55 http://twitpic.com/6mit8s
  21. Dont remember if ive posted in this thread or not. lol. swiss cheese I tell you. I'm too young for that! I try to write at least a sentence or so for each cache I visit. Usually a bit more but usually straight from my phone on the spot, or i may well forget. haha. If i have something more to add or a pic I'll edit from a comp when i get home. Hubby though usually has pre-entered text for his logs saying: "found with frogcooke. tftc" lol. but i guess he figures im gonna write a log so its fine.
  22. I got up to 2 years of cadettes for girlscouts(brownies, juniors, cadettes). Bad report card and missed part of a year so no star for that year. In addition the older troops were really hard to find around here. Camping trips were always fun to do. Kinda wish i had got to stay in scouting longer.
  23. Finally have something to post here. Was at the dog park today(theres caches in the park too but i already did them) and saw this wire eating tree.
  24. I like your note. I always found the official one too long. Even though I read it when i was new. (less than 140 characters)
  25. That reminds me of a sign I saw at a newish going to be rail trail and boat launch park area. Listed off things to do and not do includingg, DO NOT MOLEST ANIMALS. Apparently there is an issue with this? lol.
