  1. I am not saying he did or didn't have permission. I don't know, I said 'may' for a reason. I am not trying to defend the OP, his actions or his attitude, I just think the measures taken against him have been harsh, IMHO, and I will continue to think so until something is published that proves the actions were fair. I have followed the saga through the GAGB website and even dipped into the east midlands website as well as on here so I can try and keep a balanced view.
  2. {Just copying this from the main topic, I meant to put it here in the first place but couldn't find this thread earlier. Not that I thought it had disappeared or anything!!} The ironic thing is I would never have come across svens videos without GS kicking up a fuss and prompting threads like these. I am not in his area but if I came across a similar cache elsewhere I might feel less elated than finding it blind, but that would be my fault for being so curious. Every time I see 'spoiler alert' on anything I can't help myself (and then can't help kicking myself!). There are some awesome ideas on there which I will file away for any hides I might make in the future. I am a newbie but love interesting hides and am lucky to live in an area where very few are run of the mill. All videos like this do is raise the level of the game, just like cachers who make creative hides, would I have got hooked if my first few finds were plastic pots under piles of sticks, I doubt it, I certainly wouldn't have got my husband into it. Now, there is no way I would place a cache unless I thought it lived up to our local standard, so want to see as many ideas as possible. Spoilers on the cache page are one thing and CO are well justified to delete as desired for the sake of future finders but unles sven is linking the videos to his logs whats the problem. I really hope TPTB have not put him off this great game of hide and seek, and hope that that would not have been their intention. In my line of work I am often acting as the intemediary between two parties who have VERY different ideas of how things should be done. We do need rules/guidelines in most things in life, if we all had the same morals and common sense it wouldn't be a problem, just a very boring world to live in, but these rules/guidelines should always be questioned when warranted and those whose job it is to impose those rules should always listen and try not to take it as personal slight. Which seems to be a bit what has happened here (if not then some one should speak up and say exactly what the problem is, sven has repeatedly said on here and other forums that he has nothing to hide). It may be that he has an attitude that GS are not fond of but that should not affect they way the rules are applied to him versus others. A teacher singling out the uncharismatic kid in the class. Planning officers refusing applications from agents with an ego problem. Police offficers singling the odd family on the estate, all for no reason other than personal opinion, all these things would be frowned upon by most people including, I suspect GS employees. Until I see evidence saying otherwise this appears to be a similar case.
  3. I didn't look through all of them but the majority I saw are his own. He may have permission from the other CO's. There was one who objected and IIRC from reading the other forums he offered to remove it and was told it was ok.
  4. Posting this here as all of a sudden I can't see the newer thread to which it is more relevant, I must be blind! [Edit just realised its on the UK forum, nothing suspicious going on here. Oops!] The ironic thing is I would never have come across svens videos without GS kicking up a fuss and prompting threads like these. 5. Drift!! lol you certainly did. That made me laugh, wonder what the Co thought. I'd bet they would rather have had the laugh than a TFTC or Copy and Paste multiple times.
  6. No Thats Tescos My husband and I went there nearly 10 years ago on our first holiday together. We spent a lot of the holiday visiting the ancient monuments and villages etc. The day we went here another couple were there with their young daughter, she was playing shops inside, more specifically tescos, and wanted to serve us. Comletely ruined any mysticism/history the site might have held for us, a had to be there moment but we still laugh about it. Perhaps we can revisit on our trip next year.
  7. As C:geo is not directly linked to the GC site I don't think it will show finds unless you manually refresh each cache you found, rather tedious, I had a look at mine, in list view some I have found have a green line to the left, but not others, also on map view the same happens, some smilies but not all. I think the ones that show are ones I downloaded again after I had found them, don't ask why I might do that cos I don't really know. Had a look at the settings etc and not sure there is another way to refresh all caches stored. It would be useful to be able to do this, as you only get other peoples found logs up to the day you downloaded it. I recently looked for a multicache but the last logs I had indicated the final cache might have gone, for various reasons I decided not to bother with it that day only to find when I looked on the PC that it had subsequently been replaced. Perhaps its one of the few downfalls of the app, however I do have the official app as well so I can always check if i feel like it.
  8. I can't help you but they have been found as would the 5th if I wasn't stuck at my desk - finally I have worked out a puzzle cache -perhaps tomorrow .
  9. This isn't just a peeve for cache owners - it annoys me as a cache finder, it might be sad but I like to see what other people thought of some of the better caches before AND after I have found it, when you open up the page just to see TFTC its rubbish - for example 4 new mystery caches published nearby today, not entirely straight forward by the looks of the descriptions, in an area I need to re-visit to get the bonus of a series, great I thought I can get them at the same time, I put them on my watch list to see what others might say before I have the chance to visit. Get a notification of a find - TFTC! - thats it - NO! I want to know if they are good, interesting, hard, clever, worth making the trip this week end or wait till another day - to be fair though they didn't seem excited by the FTF either though! I can't believe the cache was really so bad they can't think of anything else to say, but then I guess they aren't there to help feed my needs. To be fair, a short log on a FTF may just be a placeholder. That's what I do when I get a FTF, immediately submit a found it log via smartphone, then write up the experience later. That way, others can know they don't need to hurry for the FTF. I do, however, state in my placeholder log that details will be coming soon. Yeah and that is exactly what they did I am just too impatient.

  11. Are you sure you got the paid app, sorry if that sounds daft, I am sure you would know, I only ask as there is also a free starter app that I believe only allows 3 per day, I looked into it the other day for friend who has an Iphone.
  12. Duncan Hoyle - Thats good to know, sort of - her phone might just be a bit rubbish, I'll pass on the good news , if we can't sort it out I reckon she will try the blue tooth device. Don't think she will be a mega keen cacher (not as obsessive as I seem to be becoming ) but has just retired, is a keen photographer and has a few trips coming up, fuerta ventura, cornwall and barcelona, and loves the idea of using caching to take her to places she wouldn't have normally gone. Fuzzybears - yeah it can be a pain, I think you are fairly local to me so perhaps its an 'out in the sticks' thing. I try to make sure I have the GPS on before I get to my destination which normally speeds things up even if it takes a couple of minutes once parked, by the time I get out the car and sorted, pen check, phone check, keys check etc, its there. We did keep her phone on all afternoon but it just didn't budge, even if we had gone to where it said she was I don't think it would have changed, so think something more is going on there. Bear & Ragged - Do you know thats the one thing I didn't think to check, when youre out in the field and trying to think of all the things you did to set up your phone its hard to remember. Could that have been why it worked at home with access to a wireless network (sorry if thats dumb, I know how to use things just not how they work, this particular friends husband is an IT fixer which is helpful but he is still learing about smart phones, its amazing how many times he gets asked to fix them as well as pc and laptops now), I just had a look on my galaxys and I see where the setting option is, will try that out for her. Many thanks everyone
  13. Ok, I will get her to try that. Regarding thinking its still at a previous location - thats what I thought to start with, my phone does exactly the same and it seems to depend on how far away the last location was how quickly it catches up. But when I looked on the map view it was showing her as being on the other side of the village we were in, somewhere her new phone has never been, if she had been there it would have been correct though it looked like it was correct in compass direction and distance. Guess we should have tried going where it thought she was and see what happened then!
  14. Thanks for that, just seems as though there is something out with the phone though, it worked ok at her house, we tried it back in town later on and it got a better fix but was still about 500m out which for geocaching is pretty pointless, if she had any sense of direction or ability to read maps she might cope, lol, but we are all hoping her new hobby might improve these skills. I think they were going to try reloading apps but if that doesn't work I will let her know about the bluetooth gadget. Does it really stop the battery drain. Its not been an issue so far for me as the battery lasts plenty long enough for the trips I have made so far but if we were to go away for a few days it might be useful.
  15. Went out with a friend new to this game yesterday, unfortunately she had a similar problem so just wondered if you found a solution yet, Yetidave? She had a play at home and it worked fine, but when we set off it thought she was about 2.2km away (and not at her home which i thought might be the case originally), so not such an error as yours. It was correctly directing her to caches, if she had been where it thought she was? Using c:geo and gps status which work fine on my GalaxyS. We were out for over 3 hrs and it never got a correct fix.
  16. Been lurking a while but had to make a first post to thank people for the suggestions on this thread. We (myself, slightly sceptical husband and a couple of 'interested' friends and their dog) found ourselves with some time on our hands after driving up to Cromer to put up our bell tent as a present for a couple of newly weds, to give them a couple of days away as they can't afford the time off work at the moment. I just hope the hurricane tail end doesn't live up to its potential as she is a first time camper and the new hubby really hopes she like it! Anyway despite the ribbing over my 'geeky' new hobby I convinced them that Sheringham Park was worth a visit. £4.50 to park they said! I was (more than)slightly grumpy by now, wedding party hangover and the effort of tent setting up with no gain for me combined (I know there is the warm fuzzy feeling of doing something for others but the dehydration was getting to me). Well, lets just go home then I said, no we might as well they said, dog needs a walk. Off we set, they have no idea of the hunt, if I wandered off they just disapeared and left me to it, so with fear of getting left behind I was giving up on treasure and getting grumpier as they all took the P, till I realised what a beautiful place we were in. As did everyone else. It was a wonderful day, glorious sunshine with so many amazing vistas. And we must go back for the rhodies in bloom. I can't believe I had never been there before. Used to holiday in Sheringham and Cromer as a kid, and picnicked at Pretty Corner. At the end of the day I only managed three caches, but gradually gaining the interest of my companions - who now have to admit that my geeky new hobby had taken them to a wonderful place not otherwise visited, and the £4.50 was worth every coin! And thats what I think is great about geocaching. Thanks everyone. Sorry this is a bit of a long first post I do like ramble a bit.
