I have to admit taking my laptop with me to do the on location part of your puzzle (Mrs Bolas Heathens is the puzzle expert in our family and she was elsewhere that day )

We use Google a lot and have a Sudoku solver on my laptop which comes in handy every once in a while - means you can even solve them in the field

Just back from my Chester trip and managed to find Freeview Zoo and Good Old Stan. Both had a lot more muggles than I'm used to in Shropshire which added to the fun. I then started on Capenhurst Pinfold and got the final cache co-ordinates but did not have time to do the mile walk before my meeting. Maybe next time. Popped into Hockenhull Platts on the way home but it was going dark so did not have long to look. Searched everywhere (including where I now know it was hidden - I've just seen the spoiler pictures - put my hand and arm in about 1.5 - 2 feet but could not feel anything) but could not find it and ended up having to give up as light was fading. A great day out and fun to try some caches in a different area. Thanks for the recomendations everyone. Next time I go to Chester I now know of a few other caches to try.

I'm in the Chester area for a meeting next Wednesday and have the time to get one cache in before the meeting if I plan my time well. I'll be coming up the A41 from Whitchurch and heading off for the meeting in Saughall. I'd ideally like a great cache that is not in the city centre and do-able in an hour or so with easy parking. If anyone who knows the area has any recommendations for a really good cache I'd be interested to hear. Anything with an interesting location, good views or something a little bit different would be my preferences. Thanks in advance. John The Bolas Heathens

I do a search using http://stats.geocacheuk.com/caches/ - it then allows you to download the caches returned in TomTom Go format. I then copy this to my TomTom and off I go. Quite a few of the caches have the main co-ordinates as the parking spot so the TomTom takes me right to where I need to park. If they list the location of the cache instead, I use the TomTom to get myself as near as possible to the cache and use an OS map to look for public rights of way for the cache which usually gives away the correct parking spot. Once on foot, I use a Garmin eTrex to locate the cache itself and a Palm Tungsten E2 to view the cache details on location as it saves a fortune in ink cartridges.
