  1. I third the patches idea. Are you current or former military, or do you have to go buy all the swag at the surplus store? 'Cause it's looking to me like $6 a patch on the internet. I am former military but Im not giving away my stuff. Patches I can get cheap from surplus. Plus I bought about 20 p-38's. You army guys will know what that is.
  2. Well you may have seen my post with my newly painted ammo can. I need some ideas on what to fill it with. Ive got a few things but would like military swag items. Any ideas would be appreciated. LackTheCache
  3. Paint entire can green. Cut out a few 'digital' stencils. Stencil can using tan and dark green paint, cahnging direction of stencils as you move about. Allow to dry. Whoa, go slower, I'm trying to write this down. Yep thats pretty much it. A little time consuming but it looks much better in person than the photo. BTW use graph paper for the stencils. Makes it easy.
  4. I was up on Wade Mountain. We didnt hit as many caches as we wanted but did get a few. Yes I dropped off a travel bug and picked one up. I need to find a good place for this ammo can but first im going to go get some good swag to put in. All military stuff , kind of a theme i guess. lackthecache

  6. I have been using my iphone for geocaching and its been working great. However we are planing on going on a 3 day appalachain trail hike and I dont think my iphone battery will last that long. I need a new GPSr that meets that possible has the following * paperless for geocaching * Nice size color screen * ability to track my steps and show me where i have been * I would like to load a gpx file with all the closest geocaches and see them all on a map to see which is closest. * I would like the ability to upload custom waypoints that I find on google maps maybe. * Nice battery life * rugged * doesnt have to be touchscreen but would like it to have easy to use controls. ANy advice would be appreciated. Tom
  7. Ok im convinced Ill stay with regular pen and paper. I just thought it was a good idea at the time. Thanks Tom
  8. Ive notices a few logs that people have signed with custom mailing lables or stickers. Anyone know where they ordered these from or do people make them their selves? Thanks Tom
  9. Im kinda new to all of this so forgive some of the terminology. Im sitting inside of my house and recieving a signal from 9 satelites. I have obtained and accuracy of 8 feet. I have marked a waypoint, translated the coordinates and put the Longitude and Latitude into Microsoft Mappoint. It nailed it right on the head. I was worried about reception while in the woods and here im getting great reception from inside my house. Pretty good, I think Tom
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions but I found and bought one from one of the geocachers here. I tried to delete this topic but it wont let me do it. Tom
  11. If you have a used GPS unit to sell I would like to hear from you. Please email me. Thanks Tom
  12. So let me see if I understand correctly. In order to use the mapping function or to be able to upload specific maps to the unit I have to purchase the mapping software that costs over 100 dollars? Maybe I dont need that mapping feature after all. Tom
  13. I know this is a broad question and one that has been asked 100 times. But I would like to try geocaching but im having trouble deciding on a GPS unit. I dont really fish alot but I do go camping quiet often. I would like a unit that has the ability to store waypoints and maybe interface with my computer. Mapping would be nice but it seems those units are expensive. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Tom
