  1. if you get to move my TB that is stuck out there, then i am sure i can find a bottle vino as a prize. I'll keep an eye open for it if it is still there when I deploy next year (hopefully its been rescued by then). I've got one out there as well but I hope it stays there >> TB28JWD Ian
  2. Totally agree, their is a huge difference between replacing a cache and forgetting a logbook (everyone is human) to initially placing a cache and intending for someone else to place a loogbook in it. Some caches are designed so that the only solution is a slip of paper in it and thats fine but it sounds like this one is big enough for a logbook so it should have had one when it was placed. Not sure what their motive was but I guess a gentle e-mail would be the answer it may just be an education issue.
  3. I was under the impression that a logbook was a pre-requisite for a cache as well. Its a bit cheeky to expect whoever gets the FTF to furnish the cache with a logbook. FTF - First to Furnish (a logbook) Ian
  4. Thats my biggest gripe about it. I always carry spare batteries so it would be nice to be able to switch that power saving function off. Other than that I am well chuffed with mine. It's intuitive to use once you get used to the wheel and so far its been spot on accuracy wise even under trees. Its also pretty quick to get a lock on everytime you switch it on.
  5. I know exactly what you mean having been out there last year as well The ones inside the wire are pretty safe but 'box kicking' geocachers outside the wire don't tend to be around for long
  6. My job allows me to get to some interesting places to cache - Afghanistan coming up next year
  7. I agree with reservations but am against pre-sales. I did it for my first coin in '06' and was worried incase of delays etc. I've not done it since then. It's also against most payment providers policies to take funds for something you don't actually have in hand and so I don't take payment in advance anymore. Reservations however, are a usefull tool to be able to gauge the market and speed up the sale of coins when they arrive to prevent stock just sitting on the shelf though. Ian
  8. Coins purchased for colelction at the event. Good luck with the continued planning and we look forward to touching base with you at the event. Not long now Ian
  9. Huh? Confused of Berkhamstead LOL, taxi........
  10. I cannot believe heir bare faced cheek to flount cache placing guidelines (holiday caches) mess with someone elses peoperty (in another country with no thought about local arrangements or land owners issues). Donny, I think your response was well measured, polite and to the point. I wonder if it's just someone trying to stir up trouble as that account only has four finds and they mention having some of their own caches (none on that account) 'upgraded'. I hope the bottle isn't a glass one. I carry spare containers with me, regular, micro and nano but I'd only ever consider using them as a last resort to sort out a damaged cache. Whatever my opinion of micro or nano caches it doesn't give anyone the right to change a cache because a different sized one would fit the location. On the spelling issue - "Hello pot, this is kettle" You are in the right and have the moral high ground on this one, deleting the log is a definite option.
  11. I think that as they are so widely used and are totally different from the usual micro sized cache containers they should have their own category. That way, those that hate them can ignore them and those that love them can find them easilly - online at least
  12. Well done that man.. That has to be one of the best caching pictures ever. He was well happy, I must admit I enjoyed it as well - just as the name of the cache suggests it was very, very close to a pub (you can swim through its foundations on the way to the cache info board).
  13. My son Michael (12) retrieving the co-ords for a 5* cache at Stoney Cove in Liecestershire. It was the first dive he made as a qualified diver and we managed to tie it in with this cache. 20,000 Leagues Under The Pub! - GCTRRP Edited: Speeling
  14. Definitely a thread and suggestion worth supporting - lets hope that common sense prevails.
  15. Coin collecting is a slippery slope - geocaching is addictive enough . There are some beautifull designs available out there and I have to agree with you about the latest coins images they are very good. Ian
  16. Now that was clever and incredibly funny, thanks for sharing it with us. "United Mistakes" - classic LOL
  17. No problem, I hope it all settles down soon - at the moment this pic sums up the forums
  18. In a nutshell, two of our esteemed reviewers have had to throw the towel in due to differences of opinions with Groundspeak. This is due to a number of reasons none of which I am qualified to explain fuly but the thing that hit the nail on the head was Groundspeak coming into the forums and closing some threads after being asked not to do so my our moderators. Ever since then it has been a daily mud slinging match which unfortunatley I can't see either side benefiting from. At the moment we are down to one reviewer (of caches and the forum - deci) and he is snowed under at present whilst he and the powers that be try to find replacements for the two that left. Tempers are heated and things look grim - in the short term at least. Edited - spelling
  19. I tend to write longer logs for caches that I have really enjoyed and that have taken me to somewhere new thats opened my eyes to something. Sometimes a cache that is a bit of a let down does get a much shorter log.
  20. Perhaps you were unlucky enough to have one of the Groundspeak friendly charity google ads on your thread. It appears that they are happy making money off charity link clicks as they have not chosen to prevent the showing of that category of links. Edited - I seriously need to learn to spell.
  21. Its good to know that common sense has prevailed on this and I hope that the Calendars raise a lot of money to aid the worthy cause. I'm glad that you managed to jump through all the hoops and that you have gotten the permission you deserve for doing this great service. Ian
  22. Perish the thought - the angle that I was coming from was stability and longevity - with sites coming and going these days reliability can be an issue if you are relying on multiple sites to get something done.
  23. This must be one of the most-discussed ideas here, and the weaknesses are well known. Unless I'm misunderstanding the suggestion, we already have a rating system on GeocacheUK. It works very well and is very useful. It's a great example of what UK cachers can do when Groundspeak doesn't want to do it. My point excatly, its a good system but it relies on another site. Something like that on geocaching.com would be great. I know that personalities/gripes come into things but if everyone is only allowed to vote once on a cache then any sour grapes ratings would soon be offset by the general good ratings (if it was a good cache).
  24. I'd love to see a cache rating/voting system where cachers get to rate a cache.
