  1. The method above will only work if the owner leaves Northern Ireland in the coins name the only accurate way to do it would be to ask the company who minted the coins for you for a list of the tracking numbers, they will have access to that info. That way you can track each and every one of them to see if they have been activated or not.
  2. Thanks Michael, but the links is actually: http://www.gagb.co.uk/forums/ Notice the .co.uk domain name and the 's' Cheers Edited: To remove double spaces ....
  3. Sometimes, yes. Can you qualify "sometimes"? When it suits - don't try to fathom the logic behind it. BTW why the sock...........
  4. No problem Donny, received my two coins through the post today and all I can say is amazing. The pics certainly do not do these coins any justice. They are a lovelly tactile goeoin that look great in my collection. Thanks for these.
  5. Stunning maps Edgemaster much clearer than mine, all I could come up with was:
  6. It certainly makes you pause for thought. I'd also be interested in what the situation is t'other side of the pond. As it isn't the sort of things that Groundspeak records any data that you get will be from personal opinions. The OP certainly raises some interesting questions.........should be an interesting thread.
  7. I understand that a muggle getting hold of one of these coins and pocketing it because they don't know any better is probably going to happen but surely as geocachers we can't use that as justification to add one to our own collection. These coins ahve been produced by Garmin to travel and be experienced by all, holding onto them would be doing Garmin and everyone a great injustice. The argument about keeping hold of one as lots of people will see it at the next event I attend is also a little bit lame. If you pick one up from a cache or store the week before an event then so be it but to add it to your personal colelction because you attend events would be wrong in my opinion. As I said earlier I reckon Garmin have underestimated just how 'shiny' these coins are and its tempting people to not play by the rules which clearly state that the coin is to be placed into a cache within a week of activation. I'm looking forward to finding one in the wilds or in a store when the next batch come out and it'll obviously be released into the wild again to travel.
  8. It's good to see them shifting for you Mandy.
  9. Its good to have you back again. I am hoping the reason why the appeal wasn't considered before your ban expired was due to its timing over the weekend as otherwise its not a very good system if it takes longer than the 3 day ban. Hopefully it will continue to be looked into and some good will come of all this so we can move on from here.
  10. Thats a bit close to the bone - no pun intended. editied by moderator. No action against this posted they were just quoting someone else.
  11. I had the same thought, I wonder if Garmin have underestimated the shinyness of the coins.
  12. You can find a copy of the artwork we created here. Please be sure to read Groundspeaks Acceptable Use Policy regarding the image as it is a registered trademark. http://www.ukgeocachers.co.uk/tblogo.php
  13. try this http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/David.Greenh...key=tuQdQWeB9cc Ooooh shiny things.... Thanks for the pics.
  14. Good idea, I only just managed to squeeze the last one into my calendar.
  15. Absolutely - they aren't for collecting but for releasing into the wild.
  16. Its here mandy: LINK TO MAP You'll probably need a Visa and Passport having never been this far 'sarf; before
  17. Has anyone got any pictures of the coins apart from the 'Big Ben' one that is on the garmin.geocaching.com site? I'd be very interested to see them.
  18. Where did that come from? I think just about everyone has supported the idea that the ban was too harsh. A few of us also feel that the guidelines and the judgement that the post was outside the guidelines are fair. I'm glad I read too much into that and grabbed the wrong end of the stick. It seemed that you were complaining that this topic had managed to generate four pages. My apologies if I have offended anyone and I'm glad you are willing to stand up and be counted.
  19. I'm penciled in for Afghanistan next year at about this time so I can't offer any assistance on the organisation. Good luck to the new committee, this years one did an excellent job and have set the groundwork now for what should prove to be an excellent event each year.
  20. Too true! OK I may be reading between the lines and have grabbed the wrong end of the stick (I hope this is the case) but I take it you mean that a thread that reaches four pages debating something that a lot of people think is injust is too long? I take it what you mean is as long as its happended to someone else we should just turn the other cheek and walk on by then?
  21. rofl! be careful tho. if you can get banned for anagrams you might get banned for hinting at Ms Kitt's well known cock(oops)ney rhyming slang OMG just got it LOL (you can call me flash - to bang)
  22. LOL I'm feeling particularly confused today, not sure what you mean by that one, but its got me thinking.......
  23. The rules about buying, trading and selling geocoins in the geocoin forum are not at question here. Yes Groundspeak make $1.50 on every trackable geocoin made and its right that they should promot oe their sales and posts about making them in a forum all by its self - its good business sense. However the fact that the post about the calendar was perceived to be against the rules, rules that as you have already said require certain assumptions is not really the issue, it is how the mod responded to what they perceived was a breach of the rules that I have a problem with It seems obvious that the forum rules need re-writting if there is some abiguity regarding their use. If we as users don't have clear rules then lots of other people will fall into the 3 day ban trap. Mention should also be made as to how severe a slight infringement of the rules can be. However moderators must also be made to stick to their own rules as well, otherwise how can they criticise others for breaking rules and act as moderators without putting themselves in an untenable position. It seems that we are never going to agree and your counter argument to every argument has meant that at present we are the only ones posting on this thread and I for one have no wish to dominate this or any other thread. All I ask is that you look at and consider both sides of the argument. If we are to abide by rules, make them clear and have the mods act likewise - seems like a reasonable request for the powers that be. There is obviously a need for a mechanism for banning people but it should be a ramped response starting with cautions and eventually for repeat offenders a ban.
  24. Excellent post Marty. I agree archiving your caches wouldn't be doing cachers in your are (ie me) any favours
