I have the 315 with the v 3.15 (if you don't have it yet, get it). My brother has the next up from the e trex (Venture), mine locks on much better than his under trees but his batteries seem to last longer
than mine although I would,t say twice as long, no way maybe two hours more than mine, I carry plenty of spare rechargables..

A little of everything. Have your kids go through their toy box, take the small stuff they want to trade like, Poke´mon´cards, Spare batteries (new) is always nice. You can bring music cds, or small items you got from other caches. As you travel from cache to cache you'll get the idea. Get a small day pack to store all your geocache items.

I like going with my kids but when they are remote
and in the woods I'll go alone or with my dog. When I go at night into the forest I prefer to go alone most of the time, I hunt and fish, i'm also very suspicious of strangers by nature. To the guy 6'4" and 230+ lbs, all I got to say is be careful, do'nt kid yourself-remember DELIVERANCE..ya'll too can be made to squeal like a hog..

Fun part is deciding which GPSR to buy. Go see both units and buy either one, ask to function test both units if you can and choose from what you think works best in your hands. I have a Mag.315 and had the latest (v 3.15) installed at the store before i left for no extra charge. I'm very satisfied with it. My brother has the Garmin Venture, he's happy with his.
It all depends on you. The Summit with the built in compass does not impress me. I like using my own compass. The extras cost you in less battery life. Get either one and a good compass and you'll be on your way to having good wholesome family fun.....

JUNK? It's to bad you have to bad mouth a product just because you had bad luck with yours. I bought mine on sale and got a 20.00 rebate on top of that. The mag.315 had the v3.14 so the salesman offered to update it to v3.15 for free. It works really well at pulling in signals where my brothers Venture has a harder time keeping locked on, although his batteries seem to last about an hour longer. I just carry extra recharables, both are very good at getting you to your destination, but mine seems to work a little better under the trees...Try em both hands on and you'll get a better feel of what you want.

I usally go to the more remote caches, even tough
I'm new to this I prefer the ones that are out more than 1/2 mile walk. I have a small pack that includes; AA batteries, cel phone, compass & map, water bottles which I sometimes leave a new one behind, bug/sun lotion, small first aid kit, trashbags, extra note pad & pencils, small roll of duct tape, disposable camera, paper towels, small binoculars, (my EDC is always on me),plus the trades you'll need to use. Most of this stuff I already had, the only thing I bought was the GPS.. Good luck ...

I'm considering a Magellon 315 to hold me till sept. My question is; in the Garmin line which E-Trex is close to the 315 in terms of function.
Also will the Garmins resell better then the
Magellons.

Are you sure it's the GPS 5 for 270.00? Sounds awfully cheap to me.

Till Sept.
This really sux. I'll have to get something real

The problem is that I preordered a 120 hoping to get it before vacation this summer, now i,m thinking of getting a Venture or a Legend for my second unit. I was going to get a 110 and a 120 but who knows, maybe I'll borrow one till then...

I'm new to this, I looked up a bunch of Legend gps units on ebay the prices start very low for units being offered by power sellers? what ever that means. I thought these were offered by regular people. Can you expect to get a good deal there.
Has anyone bought one there. If so what should I look out for, any helpful tips out there. Also what is your be$t deal so far..
Thanks, TJ..

How old is it and what state are you in?

The Rino 110 (yellow) is FRS, no License required.
The Rino 120 (Green) is GMRS FCC requires license.
I believe it's 75.00 for 5 years and covers the immediate family. Go to the Garmin site for more info on the two Rinos.

I'm going to start one that is three miles inside the national forest, it will have a cash prize for the FTF and offer an MRE and water also better trade items required to keep it going. It will not have any cheat clues although after awhile the spoilers might offer some. They will come just because its there.
