  1. I own 3 caches in Burlington, MA that I won't be able to tend to any longer. Is anyone interested in adopting any of these? They're all in close vicinity of each other. I'd hate to disable them. Bee's Nest Simonds Says Headquarters
  2. Sure enough, I didn't check it off as enabled. D'oh! Wish that option was a bit more prominent on the page, or placed at the bottom. Thank you
  3. Anyone have experience waiting a long time for their cache to be approved by a reviewer? It's been a month for me and I haven't heard a peep I've created others before and it took maybe a week for each to be approved. Not sure what the expectations are.
  4. I stumbled upon a cache once by accident. I was riding my bike on a trail, saw a fallen tree and thought to myself, "that would be a cool spot for a cache," and when I looked closer there was a rubbermaid container there I checked the site afterward and there was nothing at that location. Turned out it was a letterbox - it had a bunch of stamped pages in the log, rather than signatures and comments.
  5. I just started poking around to see what's available to download. I've only listened to a couple. In another thread someone shared this link, which lists a dozen podcasts or so. Check it out. http://www.cacheamaniacs.com/caching-podcasts
  6. I recently replaced an old log (just a rolled up piece of paper) in a cache of mine and I'm wondering what I could do with it. Maybe scan it and share it as a photo for the cache page? What do you folks do with your old logs?
  7. The option is there to select "Found it," so I logged one of my caches as found. I had returned there for the first time since it was activated. What the heck, might as well get credit for the find since I made the trek and all.
  8. I was a scout in Troop 47 of Tewksbury, MA. Got the rank of Life, but didn't have time to get to Eagle. Scouting definitely has an influence on my new passion for geocaching
  9. Actually, hearing the pitter-patter of the rain might be cool if you can manage to avoid damaging the equipment. It would definitely give listeners a more engaged feeling of the environment. Good luck either way!
  10. I listened and enjoyed it - thanks for sharing I'm one of the "old-fashioned" you mentioned who uses a map (I don't use GPS) even though I'm tech savvy. Good luck with the competition, and if you do more, keep us updated! Also, I glanced at the Facebook page and saw a new link was posted to track play counts, so I'll post it on your behalf. http://themedialion.podomatic.com/entry/2011-10-06T07_55_58-07_00
  11. This is a great letter; thanks for digging that up and sharing! I might use this and tweak it a bit, and hopefully it brings me success
  12. The guidelines to hiding a cache state that you must receive permission from the land owner in order to have your cache listing approved. I contacted someone and I've already been rejected My question is, just how easy is it to have permission granted to you? How do you go about asking? The way I see it, why would someone want a piece of garbage (essentially, that's what it is since it's not natural) on their land? There's no real benefit for them, so I don't blame them for saying "no." Are some people nicer than others and don't care if you hide a cache on the property?
  13. I copy the coordinates from the cache page, paste them into Google Maps using satellite view, and then zoom in on the location (so you can see trees, water, landmarks, etc). I never print the maps from geocaching.com.
  14. I have not been approached yet, but if or when I am, I plan to say something like "I'm on a scavenger hunt." For one, in a sense that's what I am doing. And two, I think they'd leave you alone after that.
  15. I've been using BlackStar (free!) on my Blackberry Curve, but haven't experimented with it much. I use it when I know I'm in the general vicinity of a cache, and then walk around 'til the coordinates are close. I prefer to print maps and take them with me, rather than having a GPS lead me right to the cache. BlackStar just helps me get more granular.
  16. I am usually pretty weary of muggles nearby. Once I hid behind a giant rock that had a cache and waited for the people to pass. It was kind of amusing as I felt like a kid Sometimes I get a mini adrenaline rush since I'm trying to be secretive. I have seen that most people don't care what you're up to, even if it does seem a bit suspicious. On one occasion I had people sitting in their car at a red light glancing in my direction as I snooped through bushes, but they minded their own business soon thereafter.
