  1. Ah yes.. you are correct... thanks for pointing that out. Quote from FCC: I guess I should have clarified that FRS exclusive radios are not allowed to have power or antennae modifications.
  2. Congrats on finding this. Unfortunately for me, the oldest marks in my county around me are from the 1930's. I don't know that I'll ever find an 1800's mark unless I do some travelling!
  3. Quote from FCC: FRS radios can not legally have an external (detachable) antenna.
  4. Like the energizer bunny, this thread keeps going and going... Actually I do have a legitimate question that I have not seen an answer to... On this webpage about WAAS, it has a map of the WAAS ground stations: with this statement below the map: WAAS coverage is approximately 200nm around these stations So, my question is a two part question: # 1: Where exactly are the WAAS ground stations? (I mean I can see on the map where they are, but does anyone know exactly the cities or coordinates for the stations?) And #2 It says the coverage area is 200nm around these stations. Can I assume then that if I am beyond 200nm from any of these stations (which I think I am in southwest Idaho) that having your WAAS enabled really does not improve GPSr accuracy?

Does anyone know why that particular spot was chosen?
  6. There are some good arguments for the importance of these marks in this thread.
  7. Thanks, I got it. (Read my post right before yours)
  8. I don't know. I just tried it off your link and Winzip found something like 28 files in there. 278K sounds about right. What unzip program are you using? Tried it with Winzip and it worked fine. Must have been my old freeware zip program. Thanks.
  9. OK, I'm feeling really dumb, but I'm not sure whats wrong. I'm going to this page and downlading this file. I end up with a 278 KB zip file named cachemate-3.4.0, but when I try to unzip it, it contains no files. I've tried 4 times now, and can't get anything. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
  10. Wow. I thought this was the "Getting Started" forum.
  11. Cachemate users can answer this question: Does Cachemate display the last 5 log entries along with each cache page? I am currently using spinner/plucker, but I am thinking this would be easier. I just couldn't find any screenshots or information in the FAQ or documentation that indicated that log entries are included. Thanks!
  12. Yes- but just think of some of the misinformation you can get around here from people that do have first hand experience! Some aspects of GPS, FRS/GMRS radios, pocket PC or Palm devices, digital cameras, you name it, can be technically complex. It's easy to feel like you know something when you really don't. A little knowledge can be dangerous!
  13. The last sentence in the most recent recovery attempt says "THE STATION WAS LOST." The surface monument was loose, so they dug for the underground mark which was also found to be loose. You may be able to find concrete remnants in the location, but if it's in a difficult to reach location, I don't know that you would want to expend the effort to get all the way there to find nothing.
  14. I thought Criminal was actually Jeremy!
  15. Yes. And (unrelated to your question) I found this FRS & GMRS FAQ that may be helpful to those in the market for radios.
  16. This topic was also recently discussed here.
  17. I give up. Where are you finding these?
  18. Wow. That's almost like "Do you want to get lucky tonight?" After 10 years of marriage, I'd take the GPS!
  19. The cacher your referring to has his avatar title set to: "Professional Idiot" I think that probably explains it all.
  20. More info about GeoTeaming can be found on the GC.com website here.
  21. Newbies would have a difficult time finding the page you reference, as I was unable to find it in any of the FAQs, or while navigating the pages of the site. It can be found by clicking on the cache icon after performing a search, or from the cache page, but a newbie might not know that. Perhaps a link to the page you reference could be added to the About Geocaching page, or the Geocaching FAQ, or the Guide to finding a geocache, or the Glossary.
  22. The topic of an ID card was discussed at length here. It's interesting to know that the USPS had an "official" ID card. I'm wondering if the USPS didn't just print them up themselves? I mean, did they really need to have an offical blessing of the NGS?
