  1. I have a Legend. I introduced a friend of mine, who has the Vista, to geocaching. He had a much more difficult time navigating towards the cache than I did because his electonic compass kept turning on and off as we started and stopped. He eventually turned the electronic compass off and had a much easier time. That said, I wouldn't worry about a compass. I would spend the money for more memory, not a compass.
  2. Tracklogs into GSAK??? I'm not sure that GSAK supports tracklogs. What could you do with a tracklog in GSAK anyway?
  3. Doh! I did a forum search and missed this one. Let this one drop away.....
  4. Gas where I live is around $1.90 per gallon, the highest it's been in a while. Are high gas prices putting a damper on your caching adventures? Gas is relatively cheap in the U.S. compared to other parts of the world. Gas is also cheaper than many other things we consume. I saw this and thought it was interesting: You Think A Gallon Of Gas Is Expensive? ------------------------------------ Makes one think, and puts things in perspective. Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 . . . . . $10.32 per gallon Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 . . . . . $9.52 per gallon Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 . . . . . $10.17 per gallon Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 . . . . . $10.00 per gallon Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 . . . . . $33.60 per gallon Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 . . . . . $178.13 per gallon Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 . . . . . $123.20 per gallon Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 . . . . . $25.42 per gallon Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 . . . . . $84.48 per gallon And this is the REAL KICKER...... Evian water 9 oz for $1.49 . . . . . $21.19 per gallon $21.19 FOR WATER!....and the buyers don't even know the source.
  5. The problem is that the data is not freely available for most markers like it is for the NGS markers. There have been countless threads about the desire to have Canadian markers included in the database, for example. Just to echo bons, if you read the FAQ on the benchmark home page, it states that there are lots of bechmarks that are not in the database. If you have access to a UK database, let GC.com know. With regards to your original concern, GC.com never states anywhere that Benchmark Hunting is a global activity, like it does for Geocaching.
  6. GPS visualizer will do something very similar- for free. It's not athlete oriented, but it has the ability to draw track maps and elevation profiles.
  7. Thanks for the link. Marriage, kids, mortgage, and career have a way of eating up free time! Geocaching is one of my few outlets to go out and be alone every once in a while, which isn't very often.
  8. Yikes! I can't even fathom having that much free time! Thanks for your work in explaining how you've done this. Where can I find st2gpx?
  9. Perhaps now might be a good time to start a GSAK 3.00 thread. The current GSAK thread is now 14 pages long, much of which is now irrelevant with the new release. Just a thought! Thanks for the great program.
  10. On the PQ generator you can search from a waypoint, postal code, or coordinates. It would be nice to have "Home coordintes" as one of the options, so I don't have to keep re-entering them. Unless this is already a feature, and I can't seem to find it?
  11. If you're curious to know what your PQ results will look like without "using up" one of your PQ's for the day, don't select any day to run, then submit it. You will then be able to "run" the query to the screen (like regular search results). You can then modify the query if you like. Once you are sure you are getting the results you asked for, select a day to run to get it e-mailed to you, then submit again. If you select the current day, you will ususlly get your results emailed to you in a few minutes.

  13. Thanks for the replies. Questions answered. Closing thread.
  14. I'm considering getting MS streets and trips. It seems to be a fairly decent program, for the price. It uses "pushpins" to mark waypoints. I have a couple of questions for users: 1. Can you add labels to the pushpins? 2. Can you have multiple color pushpins ?(i.e. for different types of caches) 3. Are there any icons other than pushpins (like dots, circles, squares) available? Thanks!
  15. I think you mean OK0122 (Oscar Kilo Zero One Two Two) Interesting- I havent seen anything like that before.
  16. Oops! Forgive me. It looks like this has been added to version 3. I'm still using version 2. Thanks!!!
  17. Feature request: adding benchmarks to your watchlist.
  18. This is not what I'm asking for- I know you can already do what you are describing. I would like to select which icons I use for active cache types (virtual, mystery, micro, etc.) (the way spinner does) and have them uploaded in one shot, rather than having to filter each type and do each list individually.
  19. Related question- Is there anyway to specify the icon types uplaoded to my GPSr for cache/container type? I would like to have different icons for micros, virtuals, and regular caches. There is already the option for setting icons for archived, owned, and active caches, but not that I can see for the different active cache types. I know I can filter each list and set each cache icon uploaded with each filtered list, but it would be nice to be able to do it all in one shot. Forgive me if this had been asked before. Thanks, and I too love the program. I would be glad to send $ for your efforts.
  20. I think you'd be an idiot to buy the book. What about Geocaching can't you find for free online?
  21. You should also explain, in text in the cache description, that you need to see the image in order to solve the cache. Those who use PQ's on handheld PDA's (like me) would have great difficulty if we started the hunt, only to realize that we also needed to have an image to view to complete the hunt.

    Log In/out Bug?

In the upper left hand corner of every forum page there is a link to the main page. It says "Visit Geocaching.com" (under the big Groundspeak logo).
  23. It's good ettiqutte, in my opinion, to give an estimate of total distance travelled from beginning to end, so that cachers can appropriatly plan their caching day, and not run into the type of problem that Stem had.
