  1. Correct. A virtual waypoint can be less than 528 feet from a physical element of another cache.
  2. I'll usually check the cache if the DNF is on one that I consider to be easy to find. As for contacting the DNFer, only if they implied in their log that they could use some assistance. I do have a couple of caches that require special tools. On those, I'll often email people who've DNF'd or posted notes, to let them know I'll be happy to meet them and assist with the necessary tools. This topic did remind me that one of my most longstanding geocaching friendships began with a DNF log. The CO emailed me after I'd DNF'd one of his caches, and long story short, we became great friends who've enjoyed many geo-outings together!
  3. Yes, you can most definitely send from Geocaching.com to the Oregon 600. Bought one myself last week and haven't had time to unbox it yet!
  4. Very much appreciate the input thus far. If you've not chimed in yet, please do.
  5. You can use a Lock and Lock (or similar watertight container) and do some really interesting cammo with it. I've seen bark and/or leaves glued to them, etc. It can be inexpensive, but fun and very effective!
  6. You certainly picked two nice cities for it!
  7. Good question. No, this doesn't mean anything for the User Insights section. That area is dedicated to Product Team questions about future features. And good point about how pinned posts can go unnoticed. We'll unpin it for a little while. Just want to be sure everyone has a chance to chime in for awhile. At least we got the OT stuff out of the way early
  8. Howdy all, We're interested in hearing your suggestions for geocaching-related subjects that might be worthy additions as sub-forums. Subjects whose discussions might otherwise get lost in the larger Geocaching Topics pot. For example, Geocaching and...Photography was added earlier this year and we've seen 1200+ replies in there. To illustrate one possibility, the popularity of GeoTours and other reward geotrails continues to increase. It might be nice to have a dedicated area for people to discuss their experiences with those. But that's just one possibility. Looking forward to hearing your ideas! Thanks!
  9. I really like this suggestion. I don't think I've ever seen it employed on any of the caches that I've found, but it seems like it would create an amazing cammo. +1 for all the paint suggestions. I used cammo tape for the longest time, but switched over to paint earlier this year and have really been pleased with the results.
  10. I really, really, really wish I had known about County and Delorme challenges. What got us into geocaching was a contest the Kansas state parks put on back in 2011. We ended up visiting every state park. But we generally drove straight from one park to the next without stopping for any other caches. Little did we know that we were hopscotching all kinds of counties and Delorme pages! We would have easily knocked them all out if we'd just known about those challenges. Oh well, we really enjoyed that summer anyway. Put tons of miles on the car, but had a blast. And it got us hooked on the hobby.
  11. Wow. This looks pretty amazing. Looking forward to giving it a try!
  12. Not being a horror fiction aficionado, I'd not heard of this author before your post. Interesting to read about him. BTW, really like what you've done with your profile page. Excellent use of the space!
  13. Glad to hear that, WarNinjas. I bought one myself today! Seems like a stencil might look better on a cache container than a sticker. And last longer, too.
  14. Is this what you're looking for? Geocaching Stencil
  15. When I lived in the Midwest, there was a definite slowdown for me between December and February. But now that I'm in the more moderate Northwest, surrounded by a lot of untapped caches, I imagine I'll be out a lot more during the winter months. At least, I hope so!
  16. Hey there- shoot us a message via the Support page and we'll get you taken care of. Choose #2 on the dropdown.
  17. Use this link: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=request
  18. I put one on an island, knowing it's unlikely to draw any muggle activity. Agree with previous comment about sanding the container down first if you're using one of those hardware store style buckets. The paint on mine didn't adhere as well as I wish it would have.
  19. I loved that cache. We visited it on our way back from 3IEE. I'd only seen something like that once before- in Iowa earlier this year. But yours was more enjoyable, both because of the theme (I LOVE that show) and the final location. Would really like to construct something similar someday. Not sure if I have the technical know-how, though!
  20. Isn't that how it goes, though? Indeed, it is! I used to give my geo-friends grief when they would get hung up on their caches not being favorited enough. Or when the percentage favorited wasn't as high as they thought it should be. Now I find myself doing the same thing, though to a somewhat lesser degree. Two of my fellow Lackeys found four of my caches this past week and I didn't get any favorites out of them. Might have to get even with them for that
  21. My most favorited cache is a paddle cache. The lake on which it is located is in a park that was used for the geo-community's summer picnic this year. So it got a lot of visits and favorites during that time. There's certainly nothing "wow" about the container. On the other hand, the caches that I'm most proud of don't have near the percentage of favoriting that I would expect. (Sniff, sniff )
  22. We happened upon a similar hide in Duncan, British Columbia during 3IEE weekend earlier this month. I was out caching one morning and found a key in one of the caches. It had a GC number and coordinates on it. So we went after the "mystery" cache on the way out of town. Found it, then deposited the key in another Duncan-area cache. Neat idea. Though I could certainly see the CO having the sort of troubles that you had with your cache.
  23. This thread has been fun to read. I'm impressed with how many people clearly put a lot of thought into their first hides. I waited quite awhile to put out our first one- GC3J7K8 Nice Place For a Stroll. A pretty simple traditional along a rarely used, but nice walking path. (I adopted it out when I moved from the area in September.) 42 finds and no DNFs in 2+ years. Also no favorite points. I don't know that I would favorite it, either. There's nothing particularly remarkable about it. My hide style has changed quite a bit from those early hides. It wasn't until earlier this year that I placed a few hides that I'm particularly proud of. Some on a state park island, some that require TOTTs, etc. I wish I had the creativity and/or craftsmanship to emulate some of the gadget caches that I've seen on our travels over the past year. Unfortunately, those traits aren't in my DNA!
  24. Those looks like some sweet Earthcaches. One of my greatest travel regrets is that we had not yet been introduced to geocaching when we visited Australia several years ago. And we didn't yet have a kayak when we visited Wisconsin a couple years back! Nice pics.
  25. I'm still very much digging my new locale here in the Pacific Northwest. On Saturday, finally unleashed my kayak for its maiden voyage on Washington water. Spent a couple hours on Jetty Island near Everettt, Wa. Then made my way over to Spencer Island for some fun caching there. On Sunday, the wife and I hiked the Monte Cristo Trail. (Thanks to rambudo for suggesting it when we saw him at JC's Pizza Meet & Greet earlier in the week!) Lots of good caching on that trail, including the oldie GCBC. From there, we headed to the nearby Big Four Ice Caves for a couple of Earthcaches and some traditionals. And the busy weekend even included a username change! (Something I should have done before starting work at HQ.) The plural original username confused some people who wondered if my wife worked at HQ and/or was involved in HQ-related work. She's not, so a name change was in order. So where did geocaching take you this weekend? Rock Chalk (The artist formerly known as Running Jayhawks)
