  2. Well, Hawaii was fun. I did get to do some diving, and some caching, just not at the same time. My favorite cache was Leap of Faith. A nice hike along a volcanic coast, and I got to see dolphins just off-shore. Beatiful!
  3. Oahu mostly. I'll be staying in Honolulu, but I might make it to Kauai (but there are no caches there I think). I sure hope I can find at least one SCUBA cache to do...
  4. Hi -- I'll be in Hawaii next week (visiting all the way from Virginia). Can anyone recommend a few caches for me? I like all types, especially nice hikes (though I imagine most hikes in Hawaii are pretty nice) I enjoy puzzle caches too. I do dive, so if anyone knows of any SCUBA caches, I'd love to try one of those. Thanks! -BeachBuddies
  5. You just modify the body tag like so: <body bgcolor=blue>
  6. I just lost my first cache recently. Of the 8 I've hidden, I really wish it was any of the others instead. This one was a Letterbox Hybrid, so it had a hand-carved stamp in it. And a very nice leather-bound log book for the visitors to stamp. And, I had stocked it pretty well too. Ah well. I have no idea what happened to it. I think the hiding spot was pretty decent, but it wasn't isolated, so someone may have seen a cacher finding or re-hiding it I guess. I do want to replace it, but I'll have to carve a new stamp, etc. And I guess I shouldn't put it back in exactly the same spot. I can certainly see why so many of the new caches are just micros with logbooks. I personally prefer "real" caches with tradables (mostly because I cache with my kids). But I guess if I end up having to replace my caches a lot, I'll probably change to micros too.

  8. You can becmore more (or less) allergic to Poison Ivy (Oak, Sumac) over time. So, yes, it's possible. But from your description, it sounds much more like an insect bite to me. Here's a pretty good site with more info: http://www.poison-ivy.org/

  10. Way to go Don! PoP is a great cache for your 600th! See you on the trails! -BB
  11. It varies depending on your latitude, but near the equator it would be about 6 feet.
  12. I want to get every possible icon on my profile page, so I want to find every type of cache and coin, and hide every type. I'm too late to get a virt or locationless approved, but I'll do the others for sure. I just need to find a Project APE cache
  13. There are a lot of great caches in Virginia. Here are some of my favorites: Blackbeard's Revenge -- Right on the beach! Blackrock Basin -- Great hike on the AT and clever hide Blood and Guts -- Only if you like a challenge Cedar Haven -- A great series of caches along Goose Creek It’s Elementary, My Dear Dmitri -- Clever hide in a fun spot to explore Out of the Frying Pan -- ery well done multi-part cache, in a great park. Great for the kids The Power of Projection -- Use projection for this 3-part multi-cache When the Lights Go Out -- night cache in downtown Fredericksburg You can get to hyperlinks for this by going to my profile page.
  14. 500 in under a year, wow! Congrats! :
  15. Congrats Gary! You're going to be in 4 digits this year! Amazing!
  16. Thanks all! These last few months have been a blast! -J
  17. Oh yeah, we've seen them. Thousands of them in the NoVA area. Here's one from the trail post on Sugarloaf Mountain. That's actual size too. Well, roughly..
  18. Hi -- if you use MS Streets & Trips, you can use this link to request new features. For example, I requested that they add support for the decimal-minutes format (instead of just decimal degrees). I imagine if enough of us ask, it might help...
  19. Congrats! Your nearest one now must be 50 miles away! I'll have to go out and hide a few nearby to give you a break from driving.
  20. Ok, I converted the code to an applet, and hosted it on on my AOL page. I think this will do exactly what you want. Try it and let me know. Geocache vs Finder Matrix Applet It's pretty easy to use: Click on the Submit GPX File button, and copy/paste your GPX file Select the finders you care about Click the Generate Matrix button One problem -- GPX files (as far as I can tell) do not contain all of the logs, so this will only work for the logs they do contain. That's probably most recent ones, I'm not sure. Anyone know?
  21. I should point out: If you run the program, and select a file called {myfile}.gpx, the program will create a file called {myfile}.html. It will overwrite any file of that name in your current directory (without asking). I'll make it more polite if I have time.
  22. I just wrote a simple java progam that will let you select a GPX file, and then it will produce an HTML file that shows all the caches and all the finders in a (possibly very big) table format. Here is link that shows a Sample Output (my hides). You can download the Java classes here. This was compiled with Java 1.5, but may run with earlier versions (though I have not tested that yet). The command to run it is: java.exe GPX I could convert it to an applet, but I don't have any way to host an applet at the moment (and I don't think it would let you select a file that way anyway). Also, if I get a chance I'll enhance it to let you select which caches and which finders you care about, instead of just using all of them in the GPX file. Hope it helps you... -BeachBuddies
  23. Hmm... I think that feature *might* be in the 2003 version also. I'm not certain which version I have (it's copyright 2003, version 11.00.18.1900). It might be the 2004 version though. Anyway, it's hard to find that feature -- it wasn't on my Tools menu. Here's what I did: Create a Route Start Point. Right-click on the "1" (on the map), and pick "Create Drive Time Zone". This will let you enter the number of minutes. You can do that multiple times, and change the color and stack-order (so the larger zones are on the bottom) using the menus at the bottom of the application. Pretty cool, definitely a feature I didn't know about, thanks for pointing it out!
