  1. Wow....I've been given time outs for much less insulting statements. Nice.
  2. I was a little annoyed about my thread of posting a recent picture of yourself into the photo section. It has nothing to do with actual photography and everything to do with game play and general interest. I'm not ready to ask to have it moved back, but if there isn't much activity (as has been the case with other photo sections in non photo forums) than I will ask....perhaps demand it be placed back. But yes...the photo section of a non-photo forum is often the death nail for a topic.
  3. Which is sooooo funny to me because many parks are nothing but land covering large utilities like gas, fuel, and other piping or power lines above. I see many man hole covers and more in parks and have run into multiple large digging projects in the parks. I'm often conflicted about Boy Scout caches and the whole merit badge aspect. I've come across at least a dozen caches by the Boy Scouts either as a group or individual that became nothing more than geo-trash because it was placed and never maintained. If you are going to do a presentation...tell them to NOT place a cache until they know they will be a long time member or unless they promise to pick up the cache and archive it if they stop playing.
  4. I want stats about the caches I HIDE. How many finds (over time) they get. How often I hide them. How quickly they are found. Where the finders are from What is the average log length left (word count and letter/character count) What is the average distance of XYZ (to next closest of my caches, to others caches, and more) Some of it in fact could be used to improve the quality of my hides. What is popular and why? As far as adding stats, I say let the third parties keep the ability. If you add it, make some basic stats available to non-premium members.
  5. This is the only site I haven't switched my username to "Stormitecture". That is what my business/username is for almost EVERYTHING anywhere on the interwebs.
  6. The whole thing is silly. There is no issue other than the rare anecdotal testimony, no real facts that support a major concern. Time to put it to bed and just cache on! I mean I've seen other threads locked for less.
  7. I cannot point to specific parks in NJ because I'm not there, but other states do have open parks that are not time restricted, or loosely enforced (they only make it an issue if you are breaking another law). If you were speaking of states outside New Jersey than I can say with confidence, that is NOT accurate.
  8. Awesome additions. Thanks for the adds. I hope to add a newer image myself....if I ever get the time to get back out. Super busy these past months.
  9. That most times anything that isn't praise and is strong but factual criticism is reported by a ton of weenies that think life should be nothing but rainbows and unicorns. Can't stand a number of people who post, but I'm no weenie and rarely if at all reported anyone. If I didn't like it, I just stop reading. Makes me think these are the same folks that throw their own families under the bus.
  10. They are pretty decent in some regards and piss poor in others. Visibility being a HUGE complaint (really need it when off road). But there are a ton of off-road aftermarket suppliers, so like Jeep, you can get bumpers, winches, lifts, skid plates, etc. etc. I've seen a number of them on the trails. They tend to be expensive however in comparison to other brands. But if you really like them and can afford one, go for it.
  11. People who question EVERY point of view or post you make, esp. if you don't provide the proof (usually because people don't spend every second online and have a list of every reference or source they used to arrive as such a POV). Will say though, it is awesome when once time is available and can provide the proof/reference/link. BAM....IN YOUR FACE!
  12. You didn't read my earlier thread did you. I'm far from Brand Loyal. In fact, I've owned Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler, Toyota, Subaru, Triumph, Oldsmobile and more. Actually, outside of Chevy and Subaru, don't think I've owned more than two of any make of vehicle. Far from factual. Home many Subaru's versus Hondas still on the road with HIGH MILEAGE. Honda "lasts longer" claim omits mileage as a qualified because Hondas have a huge number of elderly drivers that drive less miles over a longer period. This is the same technique Oldsmobile used years ago when they claimed a lower 90 percentile of vehicles still on the road over a 10 and/or 20 year period (which included 1980s and 1990s vehicles). Depending on which data set used, Hondas are claimed in the 75% to 90% range over the same 10 to 20 year period. Subaru also claims about 95% of all vehicles in 20 years are still on the road, but they use a report that omits totaled vehicles (yes, there is an insurance report that includes this data). Point is, I don't (and neither should anyone unless they have a research paper with lots of data to back it up) claim to say one brand is better than another in the reliability department. I just point out that most brands are in fact reliable. The marginal difference is just that....marginal.
  13. Caching since 2002 extensive reading and research into caching throughout US US travels Intelligence That said, while I do feel I have the right to make an assessment, I'm far from saying I'm the only one qualified to make such. I would get into more details about how terrible Arizona is but as mentioned, we are not suppose to get into politics, religion, immigration and other topics on this forum. You are correct in saying that Florida (I'm not a Florida native) isn't much better in comparison on those same points. But at least we have beaches ;-) While I could no longer deal with the geocaching organization in Maryland (though most of that management has changed now) Maryland and Virginia were rather open to Geocaching. In fact, most of the north east outside of New Jersey (another state with a growing anti-geocaching sentiment from the various natural/park agencies) have a pretty good openness to geocaching and geocachers. Northwest seems pretty good, but I haven't researched California yet, so not sure there. BTW. New Mexico has about as much to offer as Arizona in regards to its natural resources. Didn't say anything about the outdoors aspect. I said "geocaching". Reading comprehension my friend.
  14. I'm almost convinced that after 10,000 finds, you should either be kicked out of geocaching or you should be required to read and initial all the rules. So many with 10,000+ finds are the WORST offenders of poor game play (from chronic throw downs, to bad 'found it' caches that show they didn't find it, to not signing the log). It isn't personally they irk me (meet a few at events) but game play is simply horrid and it is irking!
  15. Bottomline....Arizona is a HORRIBLE state for geocaching and I too will avoid the state this spring/summer. Granted it was already horrible for other political issues were aren't allowed to discuss on this forum, but just furthers the point. Sad because there are things to see there, but constitutional violations and now this HUGE scare for a large group of citizens and residents that partake in an activity that is mostly better for the country than negative. Do have the laugh at folks that believe the INTERNET map....including Groundspeak.
  16. A lift ain't everything either. Bottomline, a CRV is way more inferior to a Jeep or Subaru. It will matter in mud, cornering, etc. For geocaching dusty roads, probably fine. But I would consider it a "capable" vehicle for more than light duty. Land Cruisers are awesome, but they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and can be outperformed by a Jeep modified for just a few hundred dollars. I almost bought a 1994 I prefer the 80 series, though though the 100 series is pretty nice if not a bloated Lexus. Anything past that is POS (like how the rest of Toyota is now). Nothing my LOWERED Subaru didn't see!
  17. I hope they SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded the steering. Stock unit could NEVER handle those tires. I'm suspect a TON of other parts would have to be upgraded, and kinda pointless with the cost involved.
  18. Someone who is a resident of Arizona and has time should write to Arizona and inform them ALL state, federal, local, whatever lands are public. Land use is determined by the PUBLIC not some agency with a poorly written policy and a unconstitutional habit of running things!
  19. THAT MAP IS NOT ACCURATE. If GS HQ is basing the archiving on that map as the only source they are screwing a lot of cachers for no reason. I call the Hotel that the above reference cache is at and the hotel said THEY own the land....NOT Arizona. Something in all this sounds very wrong and improper information being used and I question what the agenda is here. It took me about five minutes and a phone call to conclude one cache was likely archived unnecessarily.
  20. Jeep is the master for most everything. Well, until you have to pay for fuel or go fast on the highway. Then you'll CURSE the Wrangler. The really high insurance will also be really bad. I loved my XJ. Real doors, solid axles, fully enclosed box, EPIC reliability from the 4.0L straight six engine. But alas, I went back to Subaru...a Forester. Granted my LOWERED Legacy GT saw more off-road and rough condition action than many Jeeps, Hummers, and other SUVs. Subaru is hands down the best when it comes to all-wheel-drive (AWD). Of course I chase tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc. in my vehicles, so the standard requirements are probably a bit more higher than the typical geocacher. However, Subaru is a dadgum good off-roader until bolders become an issue. Good thing about a Subaru (Forester or Outback) is you can actually lift them more (unless your have the Australian models, already lifted) really simply and for cheap. Bad thing, they have chronic head gasket failures if the 2.5L EJ motors (1990-2008 or later maybe). The flat six (3.0, 3.6) and the Impreza 2.0, 2.2, etc. motors are OK. Turbo 2.5L motors are 50/50. Granted, if you find one you know has had the gaskets replaced (by pros, not a DIYer) then you are set. All that can be avoided with the newer models (FB motors) which starting in and around 2012 depending on models). Oh and another BIG one. Make sure you get AWD with the locking differential (same deal with Jeeps). CRV, RAV4, Escape, Sportage, Santa Fe, etc., etc. may have AWD options, but they really shouldn't be used for more than grass lawns, light gravel, wet roads, etc.
  21. BTW, AZ geocachers better do some digging and investigation. There may be a hidden agenda to some of this. In part, the state may be planning something that involved profit. It may only be some areas but the policy has to be there and done across the state to not appear as favoritism. Maybe another case of cutting the nose off despite the face with GS's geotour and geo-trails.
  22. Needs NATIONAL attention much the way the New Jersey issue was.
  23. Anyone ever actually been towed while caching? Lets see if it even has happened first. Granted, I'm not talking about if you parked illegally and got towed for that.
  24. Only reason I got the cling is so I can change it from car to car. I don't tend to keep cars long. Tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards tend to take their toll somewhat quickly. I also like the idea that if I'm someplace I don't want to be tracked (discovered), I can remove it.
  25. Eastern Cornerstone placed in the late 1700s. http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=HV1241 There is actually a northern one and a few others but they don't register as benchmarks all the time. Oh...and the above benchmark is a geocache too. I placed it when I lived there (since adopted).
