  1. Making it a PMO would curtail Intro-app users, would it not? and many legit, completely awesome non-premium users.
  2. NOT a simple job and your over simplification of such shows me you don't know subaru at all. Read any forum related to Subaru (Nasioc, legacygt.com, Subaruoutbackforum, fozzie forum, etc.). You have to pull the entire motor to replace the head gaskets, not doing so is stupid and usually fails. The problem was NOT solved by 2005 as the number of late 2000s HG are failing too. The only EJ motors that are 2.5L that seem to have escaped are the Turbo versions (about half as many failures, though that isn't saying much for as high as the HG issue is). Many go undetected because they were often internal leak failures (no coolant found on the ground). DO THE RESEARCH. Anecdotal evidence is NOT fact. But significant survey and data collection does support the fact that 2.5L EJ motors were unreliable from the factory. The good news is...if you fix the HG issue early, before overheating the motor, then, yes, they can go lots and lots of miles. Now if you have an impreza wrx/sti, there is a whole other list of issues with transmissions. But I'm not as familiar with those. Again...read and research the sites above for a more accurate picture.
  3. Groundspeak I believe does have the ability to IP block which will block them on their cell phone from ALL of Groundspeak or Geocaching. I know that power exists with other sites. If the language is derogatory and mean, then yes....report that and stay on GS to remove it. If it is just someone expressing some fun, leave it. Foul language is nothing and there are larger issues in life to deal with.
  4. WRONG. The consent was given only to geocaching.com and Groundspeak, NOT PUBLIC. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying you believe the Groundspeak has no right to display your cache logs for others to see? I'm pretty sure we all knew when we signed up that our cache logs would be available for others to read, since that's the whole point of them. They've been doing it for 14 years now anyway, so I would hope their ToU would allow this. I think the ToU allows it. See section 3, Ownership, subsections C and D: OK, see, there ya go. Your logs are yours. So permission to reuse it elsewhere (other than Groundspeak) needs to be requested. You do giver permission to GS to use, but it does not include any terms to which the info is to be used outside of Groundspeak. At the end it also says that GS can request any of this information be removed from third party websites. Sounds to me that ANY website using user information that did not ask permission of the user first is in violation. What I'm not clear about is if stats are copyright (whereas I'm sure your written logs actually are). This could make some other sites GSAK and the various sites at risk. If they only use YOUR stats, as many do, then they are fine because you as a user likely signed an agreement before using that site or service. However, I know that the stats on my own profile include other usernames. I'm not sure that would be allowed.
  5. Access to the information doesn't equal usage. There is many articles regarding the laws and ethics about this. Most likely Groundspeak does not allow public usage of their data (which our logs are). However, users of a website are entitled to clear terms of usage by outside companies. Groundspeak may, if they desire to make the information part of the public domain. I don't believe they have. They do have the right. It has to be spelled out specifically, not an automatic thing. I often use the example of posting photos and video because it is an area I know well. Unlike what most teens and idiots, just because it is on the "internet" doesn't make it public domain. Copyright still exists with the photographer unless you agreed to a websites TOS that says that you agree that posting on their site makes it open to public domain (or to third party clients of theirs). This was a big issue with Facebook and still is mostly when they decided that they can use your pictures to sell to third party users to use in their ads. Initially it was to sell to be used outside the website, but I believe thanks to a huge member backlash it is only for internal ads. And of course....regardless of the laws/rules, the sites/groups should ask permission of the members being ranked since they are using the information beyond the normal scope of the game/hobby.
  6. Why is it so hard for people to understand this private/public property things. Maybe I've been lucky and had quality cachers find my cache and fellow cacher's trail that are right on the edge of private property and have had ZERO issue. I also have never had any issue finding caches on the edge of private property. Bottomline, if it mentioned and clearly marked, shouldn't be an issue. Don't forget, you can also DELETE logs. I had to do this once with some people that tried to associate an area falsely with gang activity (they are were just paranoid and uninformed).
  7. Whether from the logs themselves OR the stats page it sounds like permission from both the users and Groundspeak was NOT requested. I EXPECT Groundspeak to monitor and prevent such actions from happening. Especially when it likely would be for profit making circumstances. I am not submitting caches and logs and more for outside companies to profit (economically or not) WITHOUT my permission first.
  8. WRONG. The consent was given only to geocaching.com and Groundspeak, NOT PUBLIC. Same difference with posting photographs, graphic designs, etc. Just because they are posted one place does not make it public domain. Please read the laws on this matter before making such comments. I will double check Groundspeak, but I do not believe any of their TOS include any language that says our information is and will be made public. If so, there is seriously troubling for such a company to make.
  9. the lack of interest in this forum is EXACTLY why I do NOT agree with the thread movement from the general forum!
  10. Hahahhaahahahaha. You bought into their marketing BS. LineX is bedliner, They change the formula around a little bit, but that is what it is. Excessive in that as a logical element, there is not need to cover an entire vehicle with the protective coating except one or tow isolated reasons. As a fashion state, sure, do what you want, free country. I too seen the many iterations of show vehicles with the various Rhino, LineX, etc. bedliner coatings. I could see if you were a hail oriented storm chaser (then I would expect your glass to be replaced with the property modification, or you venture into chemical or extreme weather environments (though even as a chaser, don't see the need). You must have very old Subarus and non have a 2.5L. One the whole, and if you do ACTUAL research, Subaru is far from as reliable as Honda. But that is on the whole. I certainly wouldn't trust a Honda in more extreme environments (Alaska would be one of those). I think I'm being redundant but Honda is a great vehicle if you are a typical daily commuting from the 'burbs and hardly venture out in bad weather. Now if the opposite is true. Then I would NOT recommend a Honda. They are great if babied. Subaru is a little more tougher, though the more the years go on (and Toyota puts more and more input) they are less and less durable and more and more just another Camry like vehicle.
  11. Except GS has asked for assistance with NA logs as well. Reviewers often don't see NM logs. Some more than others, but in general, it should never be depended upon for them to do all that work. We as players need to assist in pointing out bad caches that have been ignored or have potential issues (in some cases an immediate NA needs to be posted for reasons other than maintenance.
  12. What improvements would you suggest? Decide when, where, how, I get notification. Have the option to turn off notifications by email when someone finds my cache so the 130 caches I have don't dominate my email and only things like DNF, NM, NA logs come through.
  13. I wish at times there was a statistician for the website and forum to break down the various fun numbers. There are a fair amount of cachers (like myself) that love the numbers. Not only find numbers, but where, when, how. Perhaps because I took a couple of statistics courses in college I'm more into it, but I see others like playing with the numbers. Checking on the stats that are shown, on the forum main page, toward the bottom, it shows 4,996,xxx as of right now.
  14. I seem to remember that there was a delay when I did the same or similar. Probably already done, but make sure you fully sign out of anything and everything signed in (site, app, etc.). I do know the app has to be signed out and in again, but seem to remember the site (including the forum if you post there) had to be reset via log out/in.
  15. Remember too that if a CO only uses the app, they will not show up as active on the website. Cache owners are responsible to maintain caches. NEVER throw down a replacement cache......NEVER (that is from Groundspeak) Always be considerate when posting a NM and NA cache. I've learned through my own somewhat abrupt postings, it is more affective and efficient to post with consideration that caches, cache owners, etc. may have or need time, awareness, etc. Geocaching still doesn't have the best design and means for alerting about issues.
  16. ^wow, that seems excessive. Does it even see mud, rocks? Why bedline the entire truck. BTW, just had another friend look at CRV and Forester. In the end, opted for the Forester.
  17. THIS. Though frankly they don't care. Go to any park on a weekend and how many there are geocaching. I'd put the number at like 1 out of a 100. Way less in large parks where it is closer to 1 out of 10,000. Of course that is the point. Why they are all worked up about geocachers when they make up very little of their overall attendance and do very little actual damage to a park shows they lack perspective and intelligence. But we are talking about park employees. While I've meet many friendly well natured rangers and park employees can't say I've met any of true perspective or intelligence (and I don't mean they're stupid, just not highly intelligent).
  18. Getting the 5x5 http://coord.info/GC54JPB (I'm on the right). It was also geocache #900 for me.
  19. This. I spent an hour the other night working out the co-ordinates for a puzzle cache I want to find for when I go on holiday when I could have been outside finding a few more caches that are bugging me nearby my house. Was the cache owner somehow coercing you into solving the puzzle? As far as I am aware, they are not mandatory. THIS! But also...while I don't do them....if I did, they would be very nice for the summertime here in Florida, when staying indoors in the AC is much appreciated. I would solve, create a list and find them when the weather was better. Additionally, you can work on them at night when caching isn't as available. Rainy days or snow days (if in a state that has that) etc. Time management. But buttomline...it is optional!
  20. I think it would be awesome to have sub-groups within a group. Example: Challenge Validation Lists --GCblahblah (all 50 states challenge) --GCwhatever (all Rhode Island Co.) Archived Caches --Yet to be checked --Checked, no geotrash --Checked, container/geotrash removed and so on.
  21. What irks me is that I hike out and put a nice size container with some items in it and a few years later the container is empty of anything put rusty button pins, food, and business cards. Do some degree, in some circumstances, large containers do not work anymore. Of course that said, still looking to add some LARGE containers. *I'm not speaking about any of my Florida caches. Mostly an issue in Maryland. I have only a few small and regular containers here.
