  1. You just need to find a new hobby. Still no issues with new users with HUNDREDS of caches placed...ALL non-premium traditional caches. And this is Florida...not exactly the pinnacle of disciplined citizens.
  2. Thank god the cachers around me aren't like the majority of people in this thread. Would make me want to find a different game if I had to be around this bickering and BS's for months on end.
  3. So this is impossible for Groundspeak to fix. They could not, for example, utilize a different rendering engine for the stats bars that is more IETF compliant. Or just go back about seven months to the code used then...when it worked! I am beginning to feel the whole lot at HQ just isn't doing it for the members. They don't care, just there for a paycheck. Most aren't even participating members. They definitely weren't when hired.
  4. No one fixed anything for me! I have been too busy to post, but still nothing! I don't even think GS is looking into it!
  5. Can you elaborate on this? "Missing" isn't very descriptive. Are you seeing anything at all? Is it the same as problem described in this discussion where the bars aren't showing, but everything else is? Something different? If it's the bars-not-showing problem, then it isn't Groundspeak's fault and you'll just have to be patient. Since you say it was working very recently, though, it sounds like you might have a different problem, but it's hard to tell without more information. It's interesting to note that on my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.1, the bars show up just fine. The only part of the stats that doesn't display is the maps. The country/state/province tables show, just not the map images. Everything else appears exactly as it does on the desktop versions of Firefox and IE. I started a different thread and it was locked and thrown in here. under "Finds per Month" no data is there under "Cumulative Finds Per Month" no data is there under "Cache Types I've Found" only the list is there, no data. under "Container Types I've Found" only the list is there, no data under "Distances to Finds" only the distances list is there, no data. Yes...Maps do not show either.
  6. It is simple. It is called a PUZZLE cache. It requires the owner to SOLVE something. If you obtained coordinates by other means than it is CHEATING. Grow a pair and just admit you cheated to log a cache.
  7. Always the "old skool" way of just hand writing the coordinates and cache info in a small notebook and heading out. Or print out the cache page. That is until you have a good grasp of things.
  8. There are thousands of caches out there so don't sweat it if issues like parking arise. That happens from time to time. If you aren't comfortable, just move on to easier geocaches. Keep an eye out for local meet-ups (events on geocaching.com and maybe places like facebook). This way you can connect with some experienced cachers that will point you in the right direction. and Remember, being new means you have the unique awesome pleasure of experiencing things with fresh eyes. Embrace those "firsts". Don't be afraid to return and ask more (or read other threads on the topic you may be seeking info on).
  9. I'm missing stats in the iPhone & iPad iOS 7.x. It was fine until a recent update from grounspeak. It is very annoying because I take many screen grabs from the phone/pad while caching and tracking stats. Should not have to wait for this fix. Not that it isn't out of the question, but I see it as purely GS's screw up because it was fine immediately prior to the update.
  10. I'm all fine with people cheating on geocaches. It lets me know how the cheaters in life are. Cheating is lying and therefore likely that they lie and cheat on most things. At least with geocaching there isn't really any damage, except to their reputation.
  11. No, you just want to throw down so you can falsely claim a smiley or too lazy to keep your own caches up. Hands down, it is against the rules, and generally a piss poor way to play the game. I'm all for help from the community, and this thread is part of that, but throw downs are a real problem. I, like my friend, delete all logs from users that throw-down. In other caches, folks threw down and deprived finders from a good, quality cache. BOTTOMLINE: DO NOT DO IT. There is ZERO justification for it.
  12. On the right...making guffy faces (ccchan2 on the left, taken by safechrislaurie):
  13. During one of the recent overhauls of the site, I can no longer see a number of the statistics on the personal stats page when using Safari on an iPhone & iPad (iOS 7+) This is particularly annoying because I often did screen captures while in the field to track a number of stats.
  14. You asked for the hardest caches and titled the thread "5/5". The instructions to do a pocket query is the proper way to do it. You may have to create the list yourself if you are looking for something else.
  15. Of almost 900 posts in this thread, this is about the only solid point. That is really only if you truly feel this is a problem (I still do not). I actually support the removal of unvalidated accounts not because of the intro app, but to help remove troll accounts on the forum, and logs that are vengeful (discussed in another thread).
  16. As to the original question, If you FIND a throw down, the best action is to log with a Write Note. Then contact the cache owner directly through the messages/email system. If the cache owner(s) says it is fine, change the Write Note to a Found it. If it is not, encourage a replacement or offer to replace yourself (say if it is near your home) if you can. If no response, completely up to you to log a Found It or leave as a Write Not or change to a DNF (since it isn't the cache owner's container). If no response, definitely log a Needs Archive as it is the requirement of Cache Owners to maintain their caches (not the community, though it is nice thought). Reviewers cannot easily track the thousands of caches without reports. You can be very apologetic in the NA if it is address or incorrect. Even I had a cache archived incorrectly when the cache was there, just not found for some time.
  17. Nowhere is this prohibited, nor could it be. If YOU are placing a cache, it is YOUR cache. It is therefore a violation of the Saturation policy. Here is a direct log on a cache page from a reviewer: http://coord.info/GLE3FQZK Again, DO NOT PLACE A CACHE CONTAINER EXCEPT FOR YOUR OWN CACHES. Groundspeak and staff/volunteers have spoken!
  18. There is no standard. Some say 30 feet, some say 50 feet, some say 10 feet. BOTTOMLINE: Be accurate as possible.
  19. Must urban/suburban caches are easy to verify because you can plug the coordinates in with Google Maps and the aerial images are 90% or more accurate with the coordinates. Example...you place the all to loved (sarcasm) lamp post cache (LPC). When publishing, or editing the cache page, check the aerial image. If the "icon" isn't right at the spot, good chance you need to adjust the coordinates). Using the aerial images is a very good source for verifying coordinates, especially if you can't return to the site immediately. Yes, averaging over many minutes walking away and then back to the cache and then giving plenty of time for the GPS/Phone to settle. I've had nearly 200 caches over my 12 years of caching and except for the few in the early days, all of my caches are ROCK SOLID as indicated by many found it logs saying as much. I almost always use the cell phone primarily for coordinates, but when possible, also use a GPS (Garmin GPS V, 60CSX current).
  20. The term you are looking for is "throw-down". This is prohibited. DO NOT PLACE CACHE CONTAINERS AT CACHES THAT ARE NOT YOURS (unless you are working with the cache owner). Groundspeak has already spoken on the matter. http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=427
  21. You could do a ultra easy Multi to test the theory. Basically make a Multi that is just two sides of a container. Mark one as the first stage and to open the other side for the final. YES, it has been done before. Put it among other commonly found caches and see how the numbers do.
  22. Recorded (Quoted in a new blog post, see link in my signature). I very much appreciate the posting. I have said some of the same things out loud but have been both chastised and suspended from these forums for outlying such (and given the warning to not speak bad of "the company"). Yes...the old geocaching is gone, LONG GONE. I will only take what I can out of the game until it no longer allows me to operate the way in which I want to play it. I have no reason to respect or honor the leaders, office staff, etc. of Groundspeak. They DO NOT respect its members, especially the old guard that were there at the beginning...before them!
  23. Meh...annoying back in he day of hand deciphering in the field, but now, the app makes it easy to just click. So they want to include a useless hint....fine. I don't, though mostly mine are hints. I do get irked when people want direct spoiler of where the cache is in the hint. I embrace my DNFs...I wish others would too.
  24. What about find logs that warn you about potential issues before they warrant a NM? It is of less priority because the issues isn't immanent. Personally, I would likely catch that reading the logs of the website. I don't read the found it log emails as they go directly in the trash bin when I finally get time to spend weeding through the thousand or so emails. I save the NA, NM, and critical logs. If a found it log really needs to be saved, screenshots work great.
