  1. I had a similar experience to the O.P. I recently moved to Wrexham to live with my girlfriend, where I don't know anyone. I set out one day to attempt a sixteen cache series. When I got to #1, it was a D4 and I could tell from previous logs that it would be tricky. The logs also stated that the owner was very helpful. As I DNF, I fired off an e-mail and walked to #2, figuring I would come back to #1 at the end. The cache owner e-mailed me back straight away, saying he lived nearby, had been out to check on the cache and had found it had been tucked away a little too well. He also left his mobile number and said to call if any further problems. At #7 I spent ages looking, but DNF. I ended up texting the owner, who confirmed where it should be. I still couldn't find it, so I text again, saying that I was going to have to go on to the next one. As I was leaving GZ, I saw someone approaching (this was in the middle of nowhere). As he got close, he asked if I was Alex and introduced himself as Rob, the C.O.! He helped me find #7, although it had migrated slightly and he struggled to find it himself. He then proceded to walk round with me, up to #11. We had a good chat and discussed caching around the area. A couple of weeks later, I received e-mail notification of a new cache published by the same guy. I dashed out to get FTF, which I managed and logged straight away. As I was leaving GZ, I saw the C.O. again, who had come out to check the coords. He congratulated me on my FTF. A couple of weeks later again and my girlfriend and I got two more FTF, again placed by Rob. This time, we got to meet his wife and two daughters as well! How nice that someone actually takes the time, to not only place well thought out caches; but to be sociable to. Thank you Rob.
  2. Thank you for agreeing. I hope you get your independance btw, I'd be all for that. Good luck on your own if it happens
  3. I recently bought a pair of tweezers, which incorporate a torch between the prongs. So now I can remove logs easily and look into dark hidey holes with the same tool! They were only £2.99 from TK MAXX and even came with a set of replacement cell batteries. I also bought a head torch at the same time. I have a 5/5 in mind to use that for.
  4. Hawaii is a U.S. State. I think it was at one time part of the British Empire, hence the flag.
  5. And yet F.I.F.A. recognises England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and The R.O.I. as separate countries. So in the World Cup, we don't compete as the United Kingdom, or Great Britain. I believe the same is also true of rugby and cricket.
  6. I'd be interested to know if this is the case. That sounds pretty ridiculous. At least they're in the same country I suppose.
  7. I apologise for using the term "ignorant", that's probably a bit much. I disagree however, that this isn't a geocaching issue. The reason this is a geocaching issue, is that it involves the geocaching.com website. The map on my profile page is filled in inaccurately. This is a result of the U.K. being considered as a whole, instead of the individual countries I have cached in. So yes, it is a geocaching issue. Furthermore, if Groundspeak were a U.K. company, I think they would mark the map accordingly. I certainly don't think they would make it appear that I have been to Northern Ireland.
  8. Are you really going to ignite another FTF debate? Did your last one run out of steam? I know, I know, don't feed the troll :S
  9. Oh no. No, no and thrice NO! This is not the same thing at all. I had agreed with every single point in your last post, up until this paragraph. How can you say that England, Wales or Scotland are the equivalents of U.S. States or German bundeslands? I'm sorry, but I find that offensive. I'm sure that's not your intention, but I do. As I stated previously, our equivalent of U.S. states are our Counties, each of which have a County Council. We then have the English Government, the Welsh Assembly and the Scottish Parliament. Regardless of what is perceived in British Columbia/America/Canada, we are brought up here to believe that we live in a clearly defined country and that is important to us. The fact that this isn't respected in other parts of the world, are evident in this thread and on the website. Just to make it clear, I don't have any "beef" with anyone and I'm not here to fall out with anyone. I think it's just a good debate. Edited due to incorrect parentheses.
  10. I guess if other people felt as strongly about this topic as I do, they would have commented by now. I don't see anyone adding support to my cause, so I guess it's a bit of a non-starter. The map issue does bug me, but I guess I'll just have to ignore it.
  11. I apologize if that's the way you were using the term. I was being very defensive, as I felt that you were using the word "region" to decrease the significance of England. I only say this, because from my point of view, a region would have less importance than a country. I'll admit that I'm very patriotic. I think perhaps the English, when asked, would state that England is a country; whereas the rest of the World would say that the United Kingdom is a country. The articles I have read on the internet seem to suggest that either view is valid, depending on whether you are speaking technically or colloquially. As the website is essentially American (I feel) I can't expect TPTB to come around to my point of view.
  12. Thank you for the link I'm not sure if I'm missing the point that is being made in the text there, but it seems to be talking about regions like the West Midlands and Southern Scotland. I don't see any reference to countries, other than the differentiation between Northern Ireland and the R.O.I.
  13. When I clicked on the link, it took me to the Help Centre, but not to an article? I tried to search for the article, but it didn't generate any results for the search.
  14. I have considered your response very carefully and looked into definitions of, "Country" and "Sovereign State". I agree with your comment that The United Kingdom is the Sovereign State, not the constituent countries. On the page you linked, it seems to me that the drop down box lists only countries, apart from United Kingdom, which is a sovereignty. I therefore disagree that the drop down should be labelled differently. The drop down is correctly labelled, as it has a list of countries. It just needs to differentiate between England, Scotland and Wales, instead of listing a sovereignty instead. In your reply, you refer to England, Scotland and Wales as regions. I strongly disagree with this. Each of the three countries are split into regions called Counties. For example, I am from Hampshire in England. My girlfriend is from Anglesey in Wales. England is not a "region" within The United Kingdom, it is one of the constituent countries. I think part of the problem here, is that this issue will only be important to the English, the Welsh and Scots. I'm sure people in America or Canada, couldn't care less whether it says United Kingdom in the drop down box. As a customer of the website, I find it to be incorrect and a little ignorant, so I'd like it changed, or at least some kind of response from TPTB. How can it be correct, that my stats show I have only cached in one country? I have cached in three. How can the map show (shaded in) that I have cached in Northern Ireland, when it is across the Irish Sea?
  15. I find it extremely annoying and quite frankly ignorant, that TPTB refer to The United Kingdom as one country. The U.K. is NOT a country. I have found caches in three different countries; England, (where I am from) Wales, (where I currently reside) and Scotland (which I visited). My profile should state that I have cached in THREE countries. Because the map on the profile statistics page shows the U.K. as one big block, it implies that I have cached in Northern Ireland! I have not. When registering for the website, I was required to select which country I was born in. England was not an option and so I had no option but to select U.K. Some really obscure countries are listed, so why not England, Scotland and Wales?? If you agree with me, regardless of where you are from, please add your support to my campaign to have the constituent countries of the U.K. recognised separately.
  16. Is this a sick April Fools joke? Or genuine? I love the geocachespoilers videos. Here's his Memorial Website run by family members. That is so so sad. Thank you for sharing the link.

  18. ^^ This. And if I DNF cache #14 out of 20 in a series, and it's in the middle of the countryside, I'm not likely to go back. On the other hand, I've been back to some places four or five times and then found it in the end.
  19. I just found that too, but the post which I found was only posted AFTER mine. Thanks for pointing this out and it works perfectly. Apologies for doubting
  20. Hi Larry, thanks for your help. I don't know if this feature has been added in the last update, but I've never seen it before! I just tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks.
  21. I wouldn't bother with the aforementioned game if I were you. I thought I'd give it a go, but found the app to be terrible, rendering the game a bit tedious. For me, the attraction of geocaching, is finding something tangible at the end of the hunt; not a sticker on a lamppost.
  22. I just did a search on Google for the answer. Through this, I found the previous thread on the forum, which seems to reinforce that there is no way to enter coords on the android app.
  23. I have just asked the same question on the thread about entering coords on an IPhone 5. As far as I know, you can't enter coords on the android app. If this is the case, it's a bit short sighted. I've downloaded an app called GPS Essentials to do this. It's a great app and has loads of customizable options.
  24. Am I right in thinking, that it isn't possible to enter coords on the Android app for geocaching? I have downloaded an app called GPS Essentials for this reason. The GPS app is really good, but it's not always practical to switch apps.
  25. I see some comments here querying mobile connectivity out in the field. My reasoning is that if people create Intercaches using their smartphone, they will only do so where there is signal (otherwise they could not do so in the first place.) I guess it's the same when a cache is placed. If there is no good signal for the G.P.S. receiver, then the cache is less likely to be placed (as the coordinates needed for publicationcould not be determined).
