  1. Just bought a used Garmin 550T,as an update from my vista hcx. £120 unit is in very good condition. I have looked in the set up files and found firmware 3.90 was loaded which placed it around 2010. 2 photos of someones back garden were stored and 1 track, all dated 25/12/2010 so it was possibly a xmas pressie, no other data. It appears to have had very little if any use. I have updated the firmware to 5.50 as this has had good reports, there are newer builds but users have downgraded to the version I loaded. Came with a world basemap, European recreation map and a birds eye demo. Also I loaded talkytoasters map and added an 8gb sd card. After a very brief look at it I have to say it's a definite step up, the paperless aspect of it is very good. I'll use it alongside my hcx this weekend and see how they compare for accuracy. Can i move the already loaded maps to the sd card? Loaded talkytoasters maps to sd card.
  2. First off download DDPB Or PlayBook manager extension for chrome. How tech savvy are you? I have it running on my z10. It is quite easy to do,read up on side loading first and use Firefox or chrome to download the file from the cachesense site. IE. 11 downloads it incorrectly. If you are stuck pm me and I'll write you a walk through.
  3. Forgot to say, you get a 30 day free trial with this app.
  4. Here you go, I use it on 3 blackberries, Z10, Playbook and Curve. Excellent app well worth using. You will need the OS 4x-7x version http://www.cachesense.com/
  5. Try Perform the Hard Reset: *Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit Power the unit off. Remove the battery and wait several minutes. Install the battery. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences. If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data. You have now performed a hard reset of your Garmin Nuvi 1450 series GPS unit. I hope that helps.
  6. Is there a reset button or hole for a paperclip to reset it?
  7. Ok got it now and I understand your problem. Although without a major rewrite of the cache submission process I think the best way to edit a wysiwig created page would be to apply the edit in the program that was used to create it and then cut and paste the entire code instead of just a minor edit in the submission page. As you are doing. I understand your frustration but the system is what we have and that's what we have to use. Secondly it is a small number of people who create these good pages, i like them, and gs probably think the effort and cost is not the best use of their time. There are some big obstacles to overcome because as you know a page doesn't render the same on all devices as there is no universal standard, sure you can write hacks into the code to try and get the page to display correctly on most browsers but a gpsr is different.
  8. Are you aware that only some html tags and attributes are supported? If you use the old cache submission form after selecting the uses html box it will show what tags are allowed. So if you use something like dreaweaver in design mode and then go to split or code you simply copy all code after the <body> tag and before the <\body> tag and paste it into the long description space. Easy. Just remember Groundspeak strip out all non supported tags so preview the page for issues this may cause.
  9. I don't consider myself a "buried cache hater", but I do consider myself a "guideline lover." After all, if the guidelines aren't followed, what's the sense of having them? Hi TriciaG, totally agree with your statement. Not everyone does though. For instance the OP dislikes buried caches and quite rightly reports them because she believes them to be against the guidelines as she sees them, but then states that other guideline infringements such as screws in trees are acceptable and therefore does not report it. All or nothing, we can't pick and choose. I think that TPTB should come out with the official position with clear unambiguous wording and then either any and all caches in violation of the wording are removed or left as they are with new hides to be compliant. Then deal with screws etc afterwards in the same manner. Or, leave as it is and the community will remain divided.
  10. Ok, first thing you need to do is remove the photos of the tb tags from the tb page and replace them with new photos with the tracking numbers removed by using a photo editing program or by turning the tag over so that it is not visible. Then only people who find them can post logs. I think I am right in believing that these bugs have already been placed inside caches, is this correct? If so then you have a problem. You have said that you want them to travel and yet they are showing as being in your possession and have zero miles travelled. What I suggest you do is edit each trackables page and mark them as non collectible, there is a checkbox. This means that people will know that they are your possessions and are not meant to be kept by them. If they have been released then at the moment you do not know where they are,who has them or where they have been. Then, and I am not entirely sure of this and hopefully someone can confirm or correct this, I believe that you will have to mark them as missing. This means that whoever finds them next will be able to log a retrieved log and then tracking will be enabled. Of course if you haven't released them I'm just talking rubbish and please ignore me.
  11. Hi woodglue, i had a look at the travel bugs you have activated and noticed that you have marked them as collectible, did you mean to do this? If you are unsure about collectable and non collectable attributes search the travel bug forum.
  12. Discovered logs don't have location tags do they? so I am not sure a tb on a vehicle could be mapped.
  13. Post 83 posed some questions which I had hoped that the buried cache haters would reply to, disappointed that none have.
  14. No you dont have to name them, they're yours to do what you want to do with them. I have 2 tb's out travelling and they both have names. one describes what it is, cool hi tops a pair of hi top boots, and the second, Douglas and Ambers rambles named after my dogs and their love of getting out in the woods and fields. A name also gives cachers a handle to remember tb's they have seen and maybe remember if it's good. I have seen lots named after the item attached to it. A name gives an inanimate object an identity, turns it into a living thing. If you dont give them a name all that they have is a tracking code.
  15. Not all html tags are supported on cache pages. To see those that are go to the old style cache submission page click the contains html box and a list of supported tags with their attributes will be shown.
  16. Well, technically, in this case, "Never" means "usually not". One need only look at Mingo to see that sometimes, caches are, in fact, buried, with Groundspeak being aware of it. Granted, Mingo was placed before the particular guideline in question, and as such, is grandfathered, but it certainly demonstrates that the term, "Never", (which is an absolute), is an inaccurate term. As to buried caches on private property, I suspect they could be published, if explicit, verifiable consent was given to the Reviewer. But the problem is not whether a cache can be published or not, the problem is should it be archived or not. If the answer is yes it should be archived then all buried caches have to be archived. All or none. Unless Groundspeak change the guidelines to allow buried caches provided full provable permission from the landowner is produced at time of review and posted on the cache page. Seems reasonable to me.
  17. But does the no digging override all other statements. I think a guideline rethink is needed.
  18. I know of a cache that is buried and is on local authority land. It was buried by the local authority, I will not give it's code or location but it's not hard to work it out, as part of a power trail. It was seen by the authority as a way of boosting tourism and thus the local economy. To find it a lot of caches have to be found in order to get the location of the buried cache. A lot of CO's and several reviewers were involved and still are. The cache is a concrete container concreted into the ground with part of it above ground. Thousands of people pass it every day and never see it as it is the same as hundreds of others nearby. So, should it be archived and a lot of people involved with the planning and maintenance of the whole series be annoyed to say the least? What about the local authority? Maybe they may decide geocaching isn't worth the hassle and ban all caches in their jurisdiction. What about local businesses that have benefited from this series? Who's going to deny them the little extra business that may be the difference between being able to keep going or closing? So who is going to post a NA here? Perhaps the benefits outweigh the finders dislike of buried caches. Then if the finder decides i will let this one go but the next buried cache i find is going to get it, how does that sit with them? Discuss.
  19. There are many other caches that I have found that I could report, such as screws in trees, holes drilled in power poles, etc., but I am sticking to holes dug in the ground, because I think that these are the most serious and most likely to get geocaching banned from State Parks, Division of Wildlife lands, State Highway ROWs, and other public lands. Selective NA'ing. Surely a violation is a violation and if you are going to report one you will have to report all instances of non compliance. Posted by a 15 year old who has been running amok since 2011. I like that, it's been a while since I was a pita kid. Might have it as my sig.
  20. Nice to know the cache police are keeping us safe from these offensive, wholly inappropriate and unacceptable caches in the middle of nowhere. Its happening over here too, if its not a 1/1, archive it.
  21. Go to play and enter the name of the town or city near where you want to search, when you are presented with a list of caches click one, doesn't matter which, then click to find it on geocaching.com map and you can see all the caches nearby.
  22. Lots of how to's on you tube.
  23. Yep, yesterday mine refused to load caches to my gpsr. I know it was working and when I went to reinstall the plugin it found the old version but as there was a newer version I went ahead and installed the new one. I also added Groundspeak to the compatibility settings as I use IE 11 and then everything was good to go.
  24. Wow, what a time saving feature that would be.
  25. Who would begrudge a couple of pence a day to provide the frog with food.
