  1. At the top right of your cache page it gives you the code. Do the description first, place the cache and then submit for review.
  2. I use eneloops and maha c 9000. Regardless of what brand is chosen make sure the unit is set to operate with the correct type of battery. Performance may be affected by incorrect settings. The setting you're referring to (on my Garmin Oregon 650 it's at Setup/System/AA Battery Type) does not affect performance, it changes the way the unit estimates and displays battery drain. --Larry Certainly in my case I found that my runtime was better with the correct settings, all other settings unchanged, and there are other posts on the forum saying the same, but as with all things personal usage is a major factor in how long batteries last. YMMV.

  4. Ask yourself this, if i drop my Samsung off of this bridge, bounces off the rock below and ends up in a stream will it still work? Now consider doing it with the oregon.
  5. Be aware that the standard eneloops can be recharged for more cycles over their lifetime. I use the standard version and have a maha c9000 charger, when they get low I chuck them in the charger, discharge and then recharge. Carry a spare set in the field.
  6. On my garmin, 550t, they have to be enabled, I do not know about the 20 though. I also use Talkytoaster on my vista,i put the. Img file onto the sd card and selected a setting in maps I believe. I'm sure it has been posted here before.
  7. Yep, good job. Now back up all the important files just in case it happens again.
  8. You could always try reloading the firmware. Which version are you running?
  9. Why do older cachers play? To show the younger technology dependent generation how to find caches. It's all about opening your eyes and looking around, taking in the views and experience the things that today's gen X kids miss by becoming engrossed in screens and not developing the skills required to find the prize.
  10. Yep good explanation. If sd card is used the steps are almost the same, all that is needed is to create the folder. Eg x:\garmin where X is the drive name.
  11. Try adding the website to the compatibility list or use a different browser. Lots of posts on this issue.
  12. Cache size comment is irrelevant because it appears that the cacher is fairly new and new cachers are often encouraged to find the larger caches before going on to find the micros, and because they are larger these caches are more likely to hold a trackable. It may be that they are targeting the larger caches as advised but do not know how to treat trackables and take them as swag.
  13. I have a similar unit, vista hcx, and also an oregon 550t. Went out the weekend and did a side by side test, 2 people and used both units to find 8 caches. Both units found the caches and with the same degree of accuracy. The 550t however blew the vista away because of screen size and paperless caching. So, if you want to find caches your venture will do just fine, if you life a little easier you will have to upgrade.
  14. I don't know how well you know something like dropbox but in order to link to a file, such as a photo, the file to be shared has to be in a public folder. You can then get a url linking to the file, paste this into the cache page and then users can click it in order to view the file.
  15. I think the OP has done the right thing in this case as he says he is going to try and contact the CO first, then if there was no permission granted the CO has the opportunity to archive the cache or attempt to obtain permission. If no permission can be obtained and the cache not removed, or the CO does not respond, then a NA post is the way to go.
  16. http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ Everything you need to know.
  17. No. Saved tracks can't be read from the card to the GPS. Yep, my bad. The unit saves to the card but it cannot display them, they have to be viewed on a pc.
  18. You can certainly add waypoints manually to the unit. Simply mark a waypoint and then edit the co ords, rename it to the cache name and alter the icon if you wish. You can do all this at home in the comfort of your armchair. Quite time consuming if doing more than say ten at once. Hcx are good units may be worth see if a phone repair shop can do a fix. These units only use the sd card for storing maps. I have one as a backup
  19. Tough. You have a cache in play at that location so stay there.
  20. http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/ Whilst not a tutorial still a great place to look through.
  21. Be aware that sometimes a what may look like a zero may be the letter O and vice versa. I think that if you were to do a search there is a list of characters that are not used because of identification issues, although I may well be wrong.
  22. A lot of people have had the same issue. The solution seems to be either do the backwards compatability thing in IE or use a different browser. You may not have changed anything but Microsoft may have updated their browser causing your problem. I had the same problem, W7 IE backwards compatibility solved it for me.
  23. No problem reading, enabling or disabling maps, I just wanted to put them all on the sd card into one folder. I can then clone the card and keep a backup in case of file corruption.
