  1. My two unusual finds are both very different. The first was not long after I started caching and I uncovered someone's prized pornographic centrefold folded up and badly wrapped in tin foil under a rock while searching for GC1T0TB. There's a photo on the gallery page (still strategically folded so family friendly and SFW). The other find was just a couple of days ago looking for GC2PPRJ. It's just off a busy road and I was furtling around behind a couple of trees and nearly stepped on an enormous and quite obviously human turd. The crowning glory was the discarded pair of socks which I can only presume had been used to mop up after the "relief". Needless to say that put me right off any further hunting for the cache.
  2. It might be that folks are abusing the ability to vote because they don't like challenges, but perhaps in this case those "thunbs-down" votes reflect people that have seen your challenge and declined it because it doesn't interest them? You may have followed the guidelines but that doesn't mean it is a challenge that will be to everyone's taste.
  3. If the video is hosted elsewhere on the internet then realistically, how many people are likely to see it who will be in a position to go finding it? The only way I see it could be a true spoiler is if they've posted a link to the video in their found log, and presumably then you would be within your rights to delete the log anyway?
  4. Just bear in mind that it could be fun, but even with the nicest GZ in the world, your date might very well be bored silly and wonder why you're scavenging around instead of doing something "nice". You'll want to sound them out first to see if they're remotely interested. If you really want to do this you might want to plant a cache for the purpose or at least recce an existing one first. Finding a grotty little food container full of muck and damp isn't going to be so romantic...
  5. That might explain why the GPSrs in mine and my girlfriend's smartphones started going loopy while caching the other day... Either a coincidence or it could be affecting less-reliable (i.e. multipurpose) devices but not proper handheld GPS devices?
  6. As I've been looking at the cache map I too have noticed more and more PMO caches in the surrouning area, though thankfully not my immediate locale. I've also noticed that some of those cache owners seemingly set most or all of their caches in a certain area PMO. I don't really see how that can be excused as anything other than elitist. Sure, I understand why someone might want to set some of their caches premium (good trade items and wanting to reward people who invest in the community), but to make a significant proportion PMO surely goes against the original idea of the first cache, i.e. available to anyone with the means (a GPSr) and inclination to find it? Don't get me wrong, I don't have a downer against premium membership and I fully intend to get one myself when I've got a GPSr that can take pocket queries. It would be nice however if more people would reconsider some of the fallacious arguments i've seen used to justify PMO caches. A case in point is that recently I found a fairly new puzzle cache that someone had obviously spent time, money and effort in placing. The two or three finders in front of me were all premium members and between them had denuded the cache of the nice items, leaving absolutely nothing in return. So much for trading equal or trading up. I suppose the moral of this story is that spending money on something does not make you better than someone who participates for free.
  7. Playing devil's advocate here, but even if they do provide spoilers for the films, the books are VERY old news and that is probably where the information about the horcruxes comes from. It's unfortunate that you feel it has spoiled the last two films for you, but I think for most Harry Potter fans this is going to be information they're already well aware of and they will see these themed caches an an entertaining tie-in.
  8. That is an awful thing to have happen, but as difficult as it could be I would be inclined to say think no more about it. If she/they were really convinced about what they had seen, they would have contacted the police regardless. Instead they choose to jump to conclusions and likely saw your protestations as "proof" of their warped suspicions. However... You say you saw their car parked up? Did you get the registration? If you feel strongly enough about this perhaps you should approach the police yourself and report this distasteful incident if it has caused so much distress to you and your children? As commendable as it is that people might think they are looking out for the safety of kids, this is completely the wrong way to go about it and they cannot simply walk around making this sort of malicious accusation. Not only is it hurtful, but it surely has the potential to cause tremendous psychological damage and destroy reputations. These people need educating about the right way to do things without starting a witch hunt.
  9. Kwonchoba, out of interest, what model android phone have you got? I'm new to geocaching too (the bug has bitten me, hard), and have been using one of the geocaching apps available on the android marketplace to great effect on my wildfire. This may be complete bunk, but I'm under the impression that mobile phone GPSrs can be less reliable in terms of signal strength and holding onto the satellites than a proper handheld GPSr. When you fire up your app and are trying to get a GPS lock, make sure you're stood in a nice open area, if possible, with a good clear view of the sky. You haven't said what sort of terrain you're caching in, but I have noticed with mine how much being near or under large trees can affect my signal and my corresponding positioning error. In heavy woodland I've found that I totally lose my GPS signal or when I do have one, end up with a ridiculous positioning error margin. Needless to say I'm already considering getting a proper GPSr for geocaching, I just need to research some recommendations.
