  1. For what its worth, I take my laptop in the car for all day cache runs and have my query loaded onto google earth. I still use a gpsr once we are out of the car but there are times when we have really been shaking our head and found google earth to be extremely helpful for everything from deciding which direction we wanted to try to reach the cache from to getting a better idea about the landmarks near the location. We also use the laptop to do the logging with is much easier!
  2. My parents have used their inflatables for their trips to St. Maarten. They are able to fly with them and paddle to isolated areas of the beach and the salt water caves. However, they are very slow, and as others have said do not track well. For use in larger or smaller rivers and lakes they have several hard bodies and they have sea kayaks as well that we use at the beach. The inflatable is just for the trips they take where they need to pack the kayak and take it on a plane.
  3. I think that on a multi use trail it could be a good thing. I have to say that I don't like the feeling of being run over by grocery carts at the grocery store so I wouldn't like people coming up close to me on one of those, either. It sure would be nice if there could be a lane for vehicles that is different than the space for pedestrians. At the same time, there are a lot of mobility challenged people who may not look like they have challenges who could get a lot of enjoyment out of getting out on the trail.
  4. We have a family account. I go to all finds. We have trackables that we dip into caches where a specific family member finds the cache. My daughter has a cat trackable for example.
  5. The particular video you posted is nothing but a spoiler. There is no explanation about your experience getting to the hide, nothing about how hard you looked to find it and how you felt when you did discover it. When you said you have spent a lot of time on it I was shocked to watch such a short, simply spoiler, video as your example. I know from reading your other posts that Cup likes to make difficult hides. How would she feel if you posted a spoiler video of her hides?
  6. I am a newbie and I have found a few different kinds of finds in my 205 finds. I am dreaming up possible caches every time I see another cache. If you are the kind of person who sketches, journals or writes down notes, you might enjoy writing down all of your ideas and keeping detailed notes about what you like and don't like about caches that you find. You will discover that the people on the forums have very strong opinions about different cache containers and locations for reasons. Different climate zones and locations require different styles of containers and hides, etc. I have been shocked at how different it was caching just 100 miles from my home using the same kinds of containers but terrain was so amazingly different. I am very excited that you are going to use your creativity to create wonderful hides. I do agree that some experience is needed even if you do extensive computer research, nothing compares to being out in the field. Just my 2 cents.
  7. with the GPS Status and my ability to reset it, calibrate my compass and see how many satellites my phone is connecting to, my phone now works better than my Nuvi at finding exact coordinates. Before, I had the app I was ready to throw my expensive phone at a wall.
  8. I don't know, I haven't downloaded c:geo but I suggest giving it a go. I am so glad I have it on my phone.
  9. Or are you planning on claiming a find for something that's in your pocket? I found this very funny. Almost spit on my screen. I would agree that you should find a different driver. Gravel roads and distances are not good for people with bad backs.
  10. By the way, once you have it on your phone and update your location as I have said through going to menu and tools, it will work from within the gc.com application as a part of the methods you can use to get directions to your cache.
  11. The problem is your phone has not updated its locations. I had a similar problem and I was directed tothis ap. It works wonderfully and when you go to menu, then tools, you can reset your location very quickly. Now, I have an accurate compass and directions to work with.
  12. Sounds like you found a unique hide. Welcome!
  13. Seriously? Scorpions are UV Reactive? That's awesome! In hindsight, now that someone said it, I guess I did know that blacklights are UV. Makes sense that some fake stuff would light up under that exposure. That'd be a really sneaky, very handy way to beat some clever geo-flage! Does it work ok in the daytime, or is it more of a night thing? I'd imagine you'd need a pretty high-lumen rated light to use in daylight, yes? I want to know the same thing. What power of UV light do you need in order for it to be effective in day light and where do you get such a thing?
  14. I looked through a few pages of your caches and saw that on one of your caches a volunteer reviewer was asking that you just post a CO note that you checked on the cache and that all is well. There were indeed other cachers who helped out the cache in that instance. Not sure what the problem is.
  15. Today, we carried a rake because we are tired of searching through leaves with our hands. I guess its good cover...we're just groundskeepers.
  16. Every new cacher I take out I make learn the saying, "Leaves of three leave them be, leaves of 5 you will survive." I make them repeat it throughout the day and show them examples when we come across it. I am glad to learn the tips from the other posters.
  17. OK, well, we are in FL and we are not writing FART anywhere. Caches are in good shape so far today.
  18. Is there a number for this challenge? We are heading out in a few.
  19. I see no reason for the thumbs down, except that some people don't like challenges in general.
  20. I don't know. I have had to pay for it on all of the different phones we have.
  21. Wow! It is beautiful! I am wishing for that beautiful coin! Thanks for the cointest!
  22. That is pretty awful. Saying a prayer for the family.
  23. Oh, here is another idea for you. We have a trackable that is our daughter's. Every time she is the one finds the cache we log her trackable as visiting the cache. Then, we can look at the map and see all of the places she found the cache. It is pretty fun. You can see her trackable here.
  24. Hi! I am so glad you all are having a good time. It does take awhile to take in all the details of the hobby. I found these photos helpful. But, don't worry...those are very unique cache containers. If you look here you will find the more common types of containers. Once you get used to looking for the usual types of containers it will get a little easier. I do hope to keep hearing about your adventures.
  25. In addition to the other items I have Calimine lotion, neosporin, hats, a cool wrap that you soak in water and then wear around your neck, napkins or paper towels for the wet containers, etc.
