  1. In the topic about Feature Enhancement: States, outside of the US, I raised a question about the possibility of being able to select one or multiple states, (say up to 4) as part of the PQ search process. As requested, I've now put this as a new feature request as I think, for those who live near borders, it would enhance the search facility and help reduce the number of PQ searches done by state (or county, depending which country you live in) by those who live close to borders. In smaller countries, such as the UK a single county search could end up resulting in the potential for several PQs being run.
  2. I don't think it's possible right now to select more than one US state, so I guess the answer will be no. It could however be a useful feature request, also for people in the US who live close to a state border. But if you're going to lobby for this new feature, please do so in a separate thread It's probably a more useful feature in the UK/Ireland due to the (much) smaller counties (states).
  3. Of course it will be possibile to run PQs with or without county selection. In the current system it's also possibile to filter on country level without specifying e.g. a US state. So I guess you could just use the county selection in those cases when it makes things easier, and not when it makes things more difficult. Will it possible to select one than one county at a time. Maybe limit to max 3 or 4 counties ?
  4. I've just added my thoughts on the main thread. Basically, if the PQs could be run with or without counties selected, and/or with multiple counties selected, many of the issues we are concerned about would be catered for.
  5. It is ....... a PQ centred somewhere on the Wirral takes some careful plotting (in fact the best way to do it is either 2 PQ centres or by using the Caches along a Route (straightish line down the middle) function) to make sure it doesn't include caches the other side of the Mersey (Liverpool, Merseyside) or the Dee (Wales counties). But The Wirral, while a geographical area, is part of two counties; Merseyside (which is mainly the Liverpool side of the River and Cheshire, which is to the south. So to search for Wirral caches, you would still need to take into account the River Mersey within a Merseyside, county PQ. The Welsh side of the Dee would be catered for by the county listing. The Thames (Kent and Essex) presents a similar problem as would various other counties bounded by large (by UK standards) rivers or expanses of water (Humber, The Wash, Bristol Channel and the Severn, The Solent/Southampton Water, Firth of Forth, Firth of Tay, not to mention all the Lochs, the Clyde etc... on the West Coast of Scotland, Solway Firth). I think, in general, a county (read state, because this is US based !!) choice would make things a lot easier in some respects, but in others would make it more difficult, unless the PQ can be run with or with out county selection and with multiple county selection, in which case the ideal compromise is possible.
  6. Brodit mounts are not the cheapest, but work very well. I use one in my 4x4 off road an it's never moved.
  7. I think it's the prerogative of the cache setter to decide if he/she wants a spoiler photo of their cache published. I would be a bit 'miffed' if a finder of one of my caches posted a spoiler picture even if it was identified as such and I would certainly delete the picture if it's possible or the entire log if it's not. I would, of course, e-mail the finder to explain why. Ditto, totaly agree.
  8. ...and if there is not Deceangi will buy us all a pint. I'll see you in the bar Already there and waiting
  9. Yet again, several times this morning (UK morning !!) :
  10. Are there any issues with opening apps on their own, i.e. a pref. for TT to have the port opened by one of the others ? Mio P550 GPS settings: GPS Program port: COM4 GPS Hardware port : COM2 baud rate : 4800 Manage GPS automatically (recommended) I have this box checked. Yes. If I open TomTom 6 first it reports 'No GPS device!' Then I opened Cachemate and that reports 'Error opening serial port!' If I then open Memory-Map OS Edition, both Cachemate and TomTom can see the port. As melmur has said TomTom seems to have a bug and can not open the port. Moote also pointed out in another thread that applications that are not written for Windows Mobile 5 have problems opening shared ports. I suspect that this is the case with Cachemate. Yet, GPSGate creates virtual ports and each app has no problem with opening it's own virtual port so created. GPSGate can be configured to read data from almost any available source port. Maybe that would overcome the problem.

  12. Interesting. I'm able to run TT (Ver 5) before any other app.
  13. As said before, everyone's tastes are different. Do want you think is best. Caches placed for the hell of it, in a high density, don't always make for good caching, but, it depends on the reasons behind it. Senic walks, history trails etc... etc... That's what makes this "sport" interesting and varied. You'll always get variations in why people cache. Everyone, because that's what we do, we go caching. Those who go for it and will do them as fast as possible without taking too much notide of why you placed them and those who do it because they want to experience the reasons behind why you placed them and ....... everyone in between.
  14. Been using 1:25K Memeory Map for quite a while now, not only for caching but for other exploration activities - what a difference, especially on the final approach to a location with more than one possible path to it or a river to decide which side to go on. Keep us posted. I'm interested in this as I'm thinking of getting a P550, but at the moment unsure due to some of these port issues. Good luck and have fun - once bitten ............... the rest is history
  15. So what you're saying is get, say, Mem Map running first, then TT ? Also, make sure a software port is used, not a hardware port (this makes sense as that's how GPSGate works - it creates software "virtual" ports. A hardware port can only be used by one device at a time - the same as a physical port on the back of the PC for instance). Not quite sure why, if using a software "virtual" port, why there's a order of preference for the apps connecting to it. With GPSGate, you can connect in any order because each app has a different virtual port asigned and is therefore treated as any port - as long as the software is running, the port is available because it's dedicated to one particular app. Hmmm... went round in a bit of a circle there , but I know what I meant
  16. In the settings menu, open "Buttons" and dedicate the buttons to which ever app you want. Be careful though, sometimes a bit of conflict gets in if you have the buttons programmed in Memory Map.
  17. Don't know what issues your having but I have mine set up with Memory Map, TomTom and Cachemate all sharing the GPSr with GPSGate. I had a feeling it would work, nice to have it confirmed, thanks. Which puts the P550 back on the top of my list Nice, isn't it edit for typo
  18. Thanks, funny you should say that - was just doing the same
  19. anyone know where to get the script for this ?? Me thinks you a) need to be using Firefox, not IE, and 2) also install Greasemonkey. All geocachers should do this anyway - it greatly enhances your geoexperience. See this thread. FMC What I was after was the ability to use the click on a date and add it to my calander in Outlook (not just for Geocaching). But if it's a Greasemonkey script and only works in Firefox then I won't be using it. Last time I tried Firefox, it made a right mess of my PC.
  20. anyone know where to get the script for this ?? don't think you need a script, just worked for me. Was thinking of using the script in another application
