  1. Would it possible to add a keyword function to PQ building to be able to download a zipped GPX file rather than a LOC file generated from a normal search. I'm thinking, in particular of a series of caches that has several, or many, cachers involvement. I've just looked at building a bookmark list, but the series runs to over 60 caches at present and continually growing. So the other problem is knowing when new ones have been added to the series without having to wade through the list of new ones in the last week for a particular area - which can be quite large. Or have I missed something ?
  2. This may have been covered before, but I can't find a thread on this topic. Is it possible to run a PQ (not a search) on a series of caches. For example, by the same setter, or of the same name or topic. I would like to keep up to date with some specific series of caches and be able to load GSAK / Sonar and my GPS with all the latest details. To me a PQ seems to be the most comprehensive way of listing caches, and GSAK/Sonar a good combination to keep them organised. By doing a normal search, I have to know what's existing and what's new, where as a PQ will sort that out for me. Or am I just being lazy ??
  3. As far as I see it the G:UK stats are less than perfect, I think that anyone who finds a cache on the same day as an FTF also gets FTF on G:UK. For instance I know that I have only ever had 3 FTF's but on G:UK it says This cacher has defiled 24 virgin caches Don't the stats count the first one to log a cache, rather than look for the words or letters FTF.
  4. Looks like Motorway Mayhem M6/M56 (GCTDGQ) was published long after people had been logging it. (Well, the following day). So this one must have been "back logged" because any PQ will not (should not ??)come up with a cache that hasn't been published. I can see that part of the fun of an event will be a batch of new caches in the area, and that group / team caching will also be part of the fun. But if the cache is going to be found and logged before it's published, surely that detracts from the ethos of reviewing a cache in the first place, and, therefore, the whole game of geocaching. Rant over............
  5. I got a similar series of notifications, started to get excited at the prospect of a couple FTFs, but as with Clyde, found they'd already been logged. One log entry even admitted to logging it as it was being placed.
  6. How about a quickest 50 (or 100) MM cahces challenge - once there's enough.
  7. I've done some of the Saints and Sinners series and thought how peacful each spot was. The caches are placed thoughfully and carefully, away from the graves. I've also cached a bit in Ireland, where graveyards / churchyards are a popular location, again away from the graves, but in fairly obvious situations so that a quick find is more than likely. Just thought I'd ask the question to see what the reaction was - mixed, I think, is the answer at the moment - I'll watch the replys with interest.
  8. Don't know if this might be a bit controversial, but here goes ..... What's the general feeling about churchyard / graveyard caching, assuming the cache is hidden sensibly, and with due thought for it's location within the yard ??
  9. Well done Anthony, and good luck with the next 400 !!! Time to get on with the ........ Cards eh ............. All the best.
  10. Another way is to load the zip file to a GSAK database. Export from GSAK to MM on the pc as a .csv file. Then export visible to a MMO file - depending on the size of the area you wish to cache in. Transfer the MMO file to the PDA (having already transfered the relevant map area to the PDA.
  11. It'll be a while before I find all 99 of your caches, looks like a milestone for you soon - 100 hidden ........... Next time I'm down in Swindon I'll seek out a few more though
  12. It was a bit longer than a week ago Maybe 3 weeks It's a CB antenna, used more off road (green laning) than on road. I'm also available for the 4X4 Emergency Support Network, so it can be used for rescue comms. My L200 works hard for it's keep
  13. Thanks folks, it's been great fun and looking forward to the next milestone maybe !!! I'm also looking forward to meeting some of the names I keep seeing in some of the log books and on here that are in my area. Onwards ..............
  14. Well done to Clyde. for hitting the 200 mark. Funnily enough on the same day as me !!! Isn't that a bit spooky.
  15. Mine stays switched on (till the battery goes flat - not often with a car charger permanently connected), it's only the bluetooth connection that's dropped when the application using it is stopped (i.e. shut down MM or TT). So BT splitting software will resolve that issue. The track logged by MM on the Ipaq can be saved as an MMO, so, yes, the datalogging facility is a additional luxury.
  16. I use a similar set up. Laptop with GSAK and Memorymap Ipaq 5550 with GPXSonar, Memory Map and TomTom5. Geko 201 for waypoint location. The Ipaq works well with a bluetooth receiver. Mines a Pretec datalogging version. When you get home you can download from the datalogger and convert to a NMEA file to view your trip in MM. Handy for retracing steps later or for passing on routes to others. (The datalogging versions are coming down in price now, considerably so since I bought mine !!) The only thing that annoys me with it is the need to reconnect the bluetooth connection when either MM or TT is shut down, but BT splitter software would resolver that issue. The combination of the Ipaq with MM and the Geko gives an accurate way of finding a location and being sure to stay on rights of way etc... Having found a cache, TT then gives an accurate (fastest or shortest route) to the next location.
  17. Gee, thanks folks. I remember the first one too Mr Windsocker - poking around a little bridge in the depths of North Wales on a freezing cold afternoon - you have a lot to answer for. Seriously, great sport - really enjoy getting out in the freash air. It certainly is addictive, especially when a potential FTF comes up or a milestone of some sort. Even looking now for the more challenging caches and enjoy the multis and quizes etc... Roll on the 200 !!! Or maybe a record of somesort !!!
  18. CrazyL200, is it possible when you inserted your converter in the back you stuck it in the UBS slot just above or just below the one you normally use (many times there are 2 side-by-side). Also, if you have a USB hub plugged in (likely since you have a port numbered 19) the numbers get moved around. Here is how to find the correct number in Windows XP: Click on Control Panel, System, select the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager" button. Click on the little + in front of "Ports (COM & LPT)" and you should see your device in the list with the port number identified. Thanks for the info - but that's how I found it to be COM19, so I'm still stuck. I've asked on the Gpsbabel site to see if they have any ideas about port allocations etc, within babel. If (when) I solve the mystery, I'll post the answer on here. Thanks again.
  19. OK, thanks Clyde, I'll give it a go. I'll copy the solution onto here when I get it.
  20. Thanks for the fast response Clyde. Hmmmm, confusing. Have tried forcing GSAK to use com19, but reports "Can't init COM19" So tried re-asigning COM3 to the converter, since 3 is visible in GSAK and got the report "Can't init COM3". Tried on various other ports and got similar reports and failures. Everything else that uses any of the ports is working fine. I'm using the driver from the manufacturer - Belkin.
  21. Well done to both of you - I know Steve and he's mad for it. Watch out for the next 100 coming up quickly LOL.
  22. When using a serial/USB adapter cable, it appears to the PC as a COM port, even though it's plugged into a USB port. USB is only the mechanism by which the serial connection is made to the PC. GSAK shows all available COM ports in that box (normally I'll only see COM1-COM4, but when I plug in the serial/USB cable from my eTrex Legend, COM5 magically appears as well). If none of COM1-COM3 are your adapter's address, then I think the problem lies with the drivers for your serial/USB adapter or with something else using the COM port that those drivers have set up. I have a problem in a similar vein. I'm using GSAK 6.5 build 57 and am trying to "Send Waypoints..." to my GPSr (Garmin Geko 201). I have a serial / usb port converter, so the 201 is plugged into the converter and the converter plugged into a usb port. (Saves diving behind the pc every time I want to plug the GPSr in !!) Windows (device manager) reports the converter as available on Com19 (without any errors) so I should be able to set com port in GPS setup to COM19 But, when I open the GPS setup dialogue box and drop down then box for Communications port, every port I have, except 19, is available. I have the "Use usb" unchecked. Needless to say I cant "Send Waypoints..." to the Geko. Any ideas ?? Great stuff Clyde et all. Have learnt quiet a bit reading this forum. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.
  23. Not sure if this has been covered before, if it has, my apologies for not searching for long enough !!! Any way, I have just done a PQ for all "my done ones" and one cache, a web cam has been imported into GSAK but it isn't ticked off as Found, nor is it's Code hilighted yellow. All others are !! Is it me ??
