  1. I've only been caching since my first find at the beginning of July this year and even though there was nothing "awful" about the stuff I was finding, unless the cache had been damaged and was waterlogged, I quickly decided that I would only trade for geocaching-related items. This is severely limiting since most of the truly nice things I've found were activated trackables and as a beginner I'm just beginning to purchase and collect my own cache-related items for trading. Nevertheless, I have had a really magnificent Vietnam War Commemorative geocoin pass through my hands as I helped it on the next leg of its journey, and have traded for a Caching On The Appalachian Trail In Georgia lapel pin. I've also moved along several travel bugs and sent one out myself. I try to carry small items that aren't really costly, but are of some artistic merit like the mint condition Southern Pacific Railroad lapel pin I traded once, and other items of this kind. While I recognize that I've more-or-less assured myself that I won't do much trading at all, I'm okay with that since the thrill of the hunt and the find is the main draw for me anyway. Well, and having an excuse to get out and travel and explore new places. But with a slowly ( . . . alright . . . glacially . . . ) growing collection of geocaching-related stuff and a few higher quality items at hand when I'm out on the search, if I DO run across anything worthwhile, I try to be ready.
  2. Went above and beyond the call of employment this morning in helping a client, and it felt great! The thanks from this person made my day too so we both benefited. Thanks for starting this - great idea with more RAoK to come!
  3. Okay - all is back to normal. I discovered that for some reason (which will probably never be known) my home coordinates were not being carried over from the Geocaching.com home page to the maps. Enteredmy home coordinates in the search space and maps not only loaded properly, but also loaded properly after shutting down my computer and starting up again. Thanks!
  4. Thanks. I've tried that twice already and no change.
  5. I haven't been able to access/load maps for two days now starting Monday August 29. When I "map this location" from a list of caches, I am directed to the map page, but it's always blank no matter how long I let it sit to load. All I get is the side panel with the key to the cache symbols. Even going back to the old version maps doesn't work - it just sits there loading for as long as I leave the page open. I'm not having trouble with any other websites nor have I changed any settings on my computer. Is anyone else having this problem?
  6. Well . . . I've been a Frank Zappa fan since the late 1960s and in his album-side-length musical story entitled "Billy The Mountain" (to be found on the album "Just Another Band From L.A." from 1972 - parental discretion advised) the hero who tackles the aforementioned Billy, is named Studebaker Hawk. Besides, the Studebaker Hawk was a pretty cool car! It's a nom de plume (nom de cache?) that I've used for many, many years and when I found that my other regular online aliases were taken, I went with this one. Besides, I like the traveling implications of the car.
