  1. I have run accross a couple caches with sig items in them & wanted to know what's the protocol on sig items? I have seen some simple ones where someone has taken a swag item & wrote their geo name on it & others such as patches or such they have had made. Also business type cards with their geo name & sometimes some stats... so are any sig items ok to take? Should I have a sig item to leave if I take a sig item? Just curious...
  2. I am having problems with PQ... ran one last night that I never got & this morning also. I can preview the results but not getting anything in my e-mail?? Are they still having problems? From reading this post, it sounded like you got things moving again but I never got the one I ran last night?? Thanks in advance for any help...

    Confused?

I am basically a newbie... been around for a while but had a lapse in geocaching for family medical reasons but I am kinda confused about geocoins. I was under the impression that geocoins are just like TB's, just they were special coins rather than a personal object attached to a dog tag... but from reading the forums, it sounds like they are collectable too? How do you collect geocoins that are meant to be tracked? Also, I see people have personal geocoins... do you have some made to track & to keep? Do they all have the same track #? How does one go about getting their own geocoin or into collecting/trading them? I know, a lot of questions but like I said, I'm kinda confused. I have never found a geocoin in a cache yet that I know of but how do you know if it's a collectable or if it is only for tracking? Thanks to all who help with my many questions
  7. Thanks! Actually had more useful information on there that I had questions about! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction
  8. Just kinda curious if there is anyway to change your usename? When I signed up, I used a user name that I have used for other things but now that I am more into this & thinking I want my username more fitting for me? I don't think I can but thought I would ask
  9. A container is a good weapon in a pinch, but it depends on the cache you find. If its an ammo can, a whack on the head with it will stop a creepy from doing you harm. If its a micro, well then you're out of luck. You can use the micro as a distraction, if you throw it, or try to stick it in their eye, then run! No worries from me about personal protection... I am not scared to use my 'Pink Lady' 38 Special if I need too I guess it's just a comfort factor... Like I said, I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb especially looking for caches in town. I don't want to give muggles a reason to look around where I was if I were seen & ruin a good cache at my expense. I really love going geocaching & know I would feel so much more comfortable with someone else & my hubby just doesn't enjoy it as much as I do So far, I haven't got anyone in my inner circle of friends too excited about it but know that some would really enjoy it if they gave it the chance... but maybe not?? I don't know... I just know that there are quite a few I'd love to go for, like a good way to spend my lunch hour, but so far I just lurk but maybe someday I will just say the heck with it and venture out on my own... only time will tell
  10. Thanks Eartha... now I just gotta find the same thing again?? I've seen them around but don't remember where or how long ago. I knew I shoulda bought 2 when I bought the original
  11. So I have a TB that has been in the hands of a user since 10/11/2006... my question is, I have the copy tag from when I bought it & was wondering if I could re-release a new one with the copy tag? I have e-mailed the user who last had it twice... about a year apart but have had no response. The user hasn't logged onto GC.com since Jan. 08. What is the right way to handle this or should I just consider it AWOL? I actually was committed to considering it AWOL but when I came across the copy tag, it made me think about it
  12. We found one similar to this one... it was a 5 gallon water jug, the ones used in offices for fresh water, & was filled with 35mm film containers, Everyone had a note in it & only one had the log. Some of them had small swag to trade. This was one of our 1st finds & thought it was a lot of fun... you only had a small hole to get the film containers out of it so it took us a while to find the right one It was called "Micro Madness" but has been archived now cuz muggles decided to use it for target practice We have recently got a couple friends interested in geocaching & thought it would be fun to take them to this one
  13. I totally agree that it would not be highly desirable... but seeing your from Florida, I find it very unlikely I would find one in Oregon I would be so pleased to find a hand crafted item in a cache which I sometimes do, almost better than finding a TB or coin!!
  14. Just wondering how many of you cache alone? Do you have any tips or concerns? Especially in town & urban areas... I find it harder to be stealthy & feel like I stick out like a sore thumb when I have tried going alone. Any thoughts??
  15. Thanks for the info... I will continue to look for events in my area, none too close right now. As for the website, gotcache.com, it doesn't seem very active? I will continue to check it out though. Thanks again... still looking for caching friend )
  16. Also... if anyone knows somewhere where you can meet others who like to geocache other than here, please let me know?? Much appreciated...
  17. I am in the Eugene/Springfield area & would really like to find someone to geocache with. I absolutely love geocaching but my husband does not enjoy it as much as I do so... I would really like to find someone that is just starting or haven't found many around this area to go with, I am not as comfortable going alone to some sites so I thought if I could find someone to share the finds with, it could be a win/win outcome Personally... I'm game for almost any cache find but love the hills. I haven't ventured into many of the caches in town cuz I'm not too sluethy (sp?) when it comes to muggles. Understand my GPS very well so I am usually good at finding them... I'm not looking to spend every night looking for caches but once a month or every other week type thing sounds about right... or if a new one is posted & want to score the FTF, I'm always game for that too!!
