Getting Train from London to Harrogate on the day
TheWeston's replied to TheWeston's's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Probably not the first train out of London but it gets there in time and its the first I can catch having got the train up to London from Kent. Do you want to meet up on the train? Are you booked in a specific seat? -
Will the caches be published before the event (for download and upload to MM) or collected at the event? We cant get there until Saturday morning(trapped in Kent until late on Friday evening) but will aim to get there for 10 ish. We only have 2 small tents so hopefully we will be able to squeeze in somewhere.

Spotted this review on PocketGPS http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/satmap-activ...-gps-a10115.php and the website itself is http://www.satmap.com/index.php My PDA is I think approaching renewal so was interested and it looks good but as usual the OS maps are very expensive at £50 to £100 per county. So I think I'll be sticking to Memory Map for now but has anyone got one or planning to get one?

Little Quest TB/Coin race HQ
TheWeston's replied to Team Sieni's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Ah good OK, I thought that was the only rule. It is currently resting in a cache nearish to work that I have been considering visiting for a while so a I am tempted to collect it and then have another go at LQ City of London which I DNF'd at my last attempt. By the time I get there it will probably have gone....... -

Doh bad news indeed. However Mean Machine has now finally left LQ Kent so there is always the chance of getting to another LQ cache. Am I allowed to go grab it next time I am visiting another county myself? -
Thanks for your quick reply, thats tomorrows general area sorted out. Looks like we could do those and collect quite a few others whilst we are there. Thanks

Am staying down in Devon for a week and have done a few caches but one in particular was enjoyed by the kids, Ker Plunk by keehotee. My favourite so far is Where Exmoor Meets the Sea, fantastic views and a great walk. Have any of you local cachers got any recommendations for fun caches that the kids will enjoy or good caches with great views? PS sorry to have missed your event at The Turf, due to an error with my PQ's I didnt spot it until Sunday night.

Mitac Mio P350/550 2400mAh Battery
TheWeston's replied to ForsdykeFinders's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I dont have a P350 but a Mio A701 and the extended battery from ebay for that is fantastic for caching. It is bigger but more than double the capacity (and hence memory map hours) The downside is no it doesnt fit in the car cradle. Easily solved though, I turn off and swap back to the standard battery if I need TomTom for the journey home. Or a passenger holds the A701 for the journey! -
What made you go for a Kaiser? The keyboard?
-
Crikey if you can hack it about to make it a pocket pc and install TomTom and Memory Map thats a real bargain. I guess the only issue will be the battery life. If its intended for in car use the battery life wont be too long but you could probably resolve that with a battery extender, they are cheap if it charges from USB.

I have an A701 with Memory Map and there is no problem with turning on and off, the only thing that happems is the tracking of your route suddenly beomes a straight line between the point you turned off Memory Map to use TomTom to drive to next parking location then start Memory Map. If I was bothered enough about it I could set up the software to use the windows port so that both applications could use the GPS together but I find the non windows GPS port is more accurate and updates more regularly. In actual fact I would prefer it if Memory Map didnt link the two tracks together becuase they would give a more accurate reading of the distance I walked as opposed to the distance I travelled by car and foot. The biggest issue of all in ones is the battery life, because the battery is driving a Pocket PC with colour screen, GPS receiver and phone (in case of A701). However this was easily and cheaply solved by a cheap 3000maH battery off ebay, I now get a good 5 hours or so and have the standard 2/3 hour battery as backup if I need it (I never have so far on my average days caching).

are you sure its memory map compatible? It doesnt say Pocket PC. It does say Win CE.NET 5.0 Operating System but does that mean Pocket PC?

I eat tea at tea time but my missus eats dinner at the same table at the same time........not sure what the kids eat but they pronounce grass as grarss. What have I done?
-
I have just explained this to my son WestonJr and he has deleted the log and posted a note instead, does this correct the finds count? If so I could do some research and correct mine by deleting the old duplicate logs...

Has anyone managed to contact bobuk? There is a post saying he is selling his coin collection. I have tried to contact him a couple of times but got no response.

Cheap Gekos £29.99
TheWeston's replied to Cave Troll and Eeyore's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Anyone got any ideas where I can get a cheapo GPS, thinking of getting my son one for his birthday so that he can do the work whilst caching! Cheapest I can see is etrex H for £62 at amazon. Can anyone beat that? -
?? GSAK has whatever you put into it. I don't understand your comment. GSAK requires a lot of PQ's to get all the UK into the database. I use GSAK, but much prefer the G:UK file download for the TomTom! Last G:UK ov2 I did was 11 Sept -bit ropey as some of the newer caches are missing -and it's personalised for KandG Found/Not Found etc... BUT if you are interested in it, let me know. G Yes please KandG, I am not sure how you personalise it but I assume I could just create the same icon in for both ov2 files.
