Screen Protectors For Gpsr's
Ed ke6bnl replied to geocachingbaker's topic in GPS technology and devices
I bought some I believe it is call displex to polish the newly aquired ebay meriplat then to make it last for hopefully good. I put a screen ivisible shield protector on so far so good. Ed ke6bnl -
I am new to this but I got a used meriplat and it had some minor scratches that I removed with DISPLEX and then I put the invisibleshield on last night. It looks great and was easy to do. The shield has a lifetime replacement warranty and hope to have it hold up better. I would suspect that the plastic shield on the front would offer much better resistence to breaking as an added benefit to the scratch resistence. Ed ke6bnl

Just got a new to me meriplat used. I found that there are several caches nearby my home. There is one a few miles away and I want to take a try at it tomarrow. I don't have the fogggest idea what I am doing. I initialized the gpsr and I put in the coordinates for the cache. and I even know that it is near a French restaurant near by. I have not as yet put in mapsend direct but from the base may I plan on getting near the cafe and then I would use the compas and the goto for the coordinate and start following the compas and distance reading, Am I close in my thinking thanks Ed

I questioned a dealer about the Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS and was told they are no longer being made. Should that be a good enough reason not to purchase? and if that is the case what is the replacement for this gps? Has a lot of the features I thing I need as a newly intrested person to GPS>

So I bought my first GPS a Garmin Etrex Vista, well sorta. Never got it after paying $150.00 for a used one. Well ups is settleing the claim I did get a box and two cables so in reality I am a never owned a GPSer person. I have kinda narrowed it down to a , or GARMIN ETREX VISTA C COLOR GPS or a Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS. I would like to try geocacheing but my main interest is for street navigation, hiking, offroading, and fishing, and to use for mileage/speed/distance traveled, for some of my incomplete street rods and car projects. Between the two I see a color screen for the garmin but for the Magellan more for your money no color and more memory. I am not sure of how important the extra memory with the card will be to me and the Magellan doesn't seem to include a costly street map and is black and white. I probably left out many other important features that I will understand better when I get one. So let me in on your choice or another model that would seem to better suite me. I may go with a new one and put more money out since the one I purchased would have cost as much as new by the time I got the not included mapsource cd/ Thanks so much Ed in So. Calif. High desert.
