  1. :D :D Wow -- an update ! Happy now ... plus my Waymarking Geocoins are due to arrive very soon !! :D
  2. Congratulations on 500,000. The silence from Groundspeak is deafening.
  3. Nice work on the Geo-coin, have sent for two, going to cost a fair bit to import but worth getting. Emailed Groundspeak to ask how they were going to mark the occasion.. They relied to say it would get a mention on the Facebook page. All very nice but don't use Facebook. Why not mark the occasion on the Waymarking site????? They don't seem keen to update anything on there do they?? How long have the maps been showing as "new" on the profile page. The last ever update seemed to have been about forums moving. Here's my theory.. they want to kill Waymarking but couldn't face the outcry so they are ignoring it and hoping it will go away. Anyone agree ? I challenge Groundspeak to update the site in any way to prove me wrong....
  4. Anybody got a Pink Floyd Geocoin for trade / hard cash ?????
  5. Just been sat imagining a shiny new Waymarking website where the Category grid consists of large well designed 'Souvenir' style icons. Nice to dream.. nothing will change.
  6. Agreed - sad to see the list of countries grind to a halt. They have managed to find the resources to provide a souvenir for each day this August (...bizarre and annoying as its too hard - not enough local caches left to do !). Should be able to get a souvenir for all countries sorted... unless the whole set up is going the way of the Waymarking site (ie dont give a £$%%££)
  7. Thankyou, thankyou. I was too convinced that the website was out to get me and I didn't pay attention. I actually deleted my whole Waymark and started again - but I know how to do it in future now !! ... shouldn't have been so quick to moan - the site isn't perfect by a long way but thats no excuse. Thanks again for the help - going to stick around and give it a chance.
  8. The newbie Waymarker is back. Logged my first, the second has been refused I can see their point - I uploaded two photographs and the least interesting long shot is now the default photo shown on the site. I need to delete my photos and upload themn again in a different order. I am starting to suspect I do this by deleting the whole thing and starting again ? Could you please advise. I'm really giving this WM a chance....but, the stuff you guys have to put up with !
  9. I would be happy to pay the same ammount again to become a 'Premium Member' of Waymarking.com if it meant the cumbersome interface was worked on. PQs and apps would be great but I think attention to the clunky site interface would be a good place to start. Its the simple things like having to select from drop down menus and click 'update' or 'submit' all the time. As a newbie I returned home last night keen to post my first two waymarks. After the first took half an hour I gave up on the second. Simple things like the site not moving to the next stage of the process after my photo was uploaded. Its all pretty frustrating.
  10. Hello. Have decided to give Waymarking a chance and put up with some of the 'Clunky' aspects of the site. Actually planning on posting a number of interesting Waymarks in my area, being a newbie I have a BIG question... and there does not seem to be an answer for me in FAQ. Say I want to post a waymark - for example an unusual building. I will have my camera with me and my GPS. Is there a hard and fast rule for the placement of my Waymark/Waypoint ?? Obviously with Geocaching its the cache itself. With Waymarking what is the done thing ? For a tiny benchmark on the ground or a Trig point I would obviously act as if placing a cache and aim to publish co-ords that take you to the point of interest. My query is for say a station, building or cemetary etc... Is it the usual thing to give Co-ordinates of where the posted photograph was taken from - i.e the view of the bridge rather than the bridge itself to give another example ? Hope you can help this newbie. I have just ordered a GPS unit for my Digital SLR camera so a bit of guidance on the matter would be a big help
  11. Many thanks for your reply. I have left it 24hrs and now another location is shown on my map, so I guess the ones logged today will show up after a similar wait - clunky but manageable. Is this 'Clunkiness' down to a difference in popularity between the WM site and the GC one? are their less resources? On the statistics front I can see that trying to fit in everybodies historic logs would be problematic - where would they draw the line. Unfortunately, in my personal opinion, I believe it a case that they didnt think it through, implemented the current system and it would now be far too awkward to change. I guess the whole challenges/virtual cache scenario indicates the attitude of the company when it comes to doing its own thing in the face of opposing views from large numbers.(..but that argument has been done to death in other threads - no need to mention it again here) I think I have to review my reasons for coming to the site - like many I just moved across from GC out of curiosity. Then I got to thinking it would be nice to tie in with photography, then there is the whole OCD / collecting element and the 'foursquare' type icon thing. Going to stick with it a bit longer, get the camera out and post some new waymarks for you all in sunny Scotland. I will try and get my category grid filled ...someday , still intend to log some visits from my past though. What is harder to accept is coming back from a week away and having all my logs appear on the date they were entered into the computer - can anybody see that being acceptable on the Geocaching site ...Not holding breath for anything being done. Will ignore the statistics page like the plague from now. Thanks again for the reply and sorry if my Newbie complaints and issues have already been thrashed out on the forum many times before.
  12. Decided to come across from Geocaching and give Waymarking a try. Interested to see the addition of Maps, statistics etc. Thought I would start my profile going by logging a couple of my favourite oddities found Geocaching and also on a couple of trips abroad. Not too pleased with the results... Four visits logged...problems I am experiencing are 1) Only two visits in UK are shown on map screen (i have visited 4, 3 in UK and 1 abroad) 2) Statistics takes into account only the day I logged into the site and posted the visits despite giving the visits dates in the past. Is this how it is meant to work? Does not allow for historical visits in that case even to the point of logging something visited last week correctly. Milestones has taken my earliest dated visit to be my first milestone - this is good 3) Find the whole select 'Visited' or 'Posted' and then clicking submit thing a bit too clunky - does it have to be set up this way ? The Geocaching site manages without this type of carry on. Understand that these are NEW features and their may be teething problems. I don't plan on making ALL my posted visits using historical info it is just that I have a few once in a lifetime ones I would like to use from a couple of years ago. The statistics dating seems too messed up to consider being useful - even if dealing with recent visits - just defaults to date visit entered rather than date on the log. Hope that all made sense and looking forward to some advice.....
