Still waiting for some concrete response.

DO I need to pay again. IF so why is the payment icon missing on my profile?

I tried to process our annual payment on 12-31. I did get a note from GC telling me thank you. The renewal date on my profile has not changed. The payment has not been processed by PP.

From FB I did get a note that GC is having problems with anyone using an Apple device, but I used a PC.

    No further comment from GC.COM.

Anyone know what is going on?

    Hey,

could you please send us a mail via Helpcenter, so that we can investigate this?

    Cheers,

    Martin

  3. If you really want to know, find someone with a D&B account and have them run a report for you.

    Hi all,

I'm new to geocaching and I'm really enjoying it. I did only 2 caches. I read about the membership and the restrictions for a non-member. Membership is 30 dollar per member per year. I don't know the number of premium members but it seems that a lot of people here are premium member. (forum statistics show 800071 members and I suppose > 50 pct are premium members)

Personally I would think 30 dollar is a lot (too much) of money for webhosting and an online database. So my question is: is Groundspeak Inc. getting very rich from this business? It seems they are earning millions of dollars from this activity if my very rough calculations are correct. What are your ideas about this? It seems most people find the price very reasonable and think they do a good job paying the membership cost.

  4. Well still not retaining log in.

Today's release has been postponed until tomorrow or Thursday. I'm waiting for official word. We want to have more time for testing the changes involved.

Thanks for the update. Testing is good.

  5. Ill now has the law that you can mark property as NO TRESSPASSING by painting a purple mark on the fence line. Man, I can't wait for the argument that "I'm colorblind", or "That's not purple enough."

We all respect your friend's deeply held beliefs about property ownership and the right to be left alone on one's homestead. I for one have fought dearly for those rights. But we're also trying to run a civil society here, that depends on giving people the benefit of the doubt. There is a balance that has stood the test of time everywhere in the US, no matter where "those parts" happen to be. Here's what the law says in your particular "those parts:"

In Illinois as with most states, a person is guilty of trespassing only after they have been notified and given the opportunity to freely leave the property. The state code says a person is guilty of trespass only when he/she:

    • "enters upon the land of another, after receiving, prior to such entry, notice from the owner or occupant that such entry is forbidden;" or
    • "remains upon the land of another, after receiving notice from the owner or occupant to depart."

The key point here is that generally in the US, it is not illegal to enter private land. It is only illegal to enter or remain knowingly, after having been notified. Posting written notices only applies if the area is enclosed and marked at the principal entrances, or if not enclosed, is marked sufficiently that any person could reasonably see written notice from his point of entrance onto the property. The burden of proof that a trespasser should have reasonably seen the signs rests upon the complainant. In general, force cannot be used to eject them unless they refuse to leave, and if they attempt to leave, force absolutely cannot be used to detain them.

I'm an animal lover, so I feel deeply sorry for any dog sent after me, they're going to have a rough day with me. And being an Army sniper and special operations soldier, I feel equally sorry for the people who shot first. I haven't always gotten the first shot. I have however always gotten the last.

  6. Hardest one is an interesting story. There used to be a cache in the stone wall by the Orangerie Art Museum in Paris. I say the hole and was on autopilot walking towards it until I happened to look up and see the guard on the top of the wall carrying an FN automatic rifle. Let's just say I came back another day. This year we were back and saw that the hole was finally repaired so the cache was archived.

  7. Great suggestion, just one more question, is there an easy way to transfer the watchlist to a bookmark list?

I recommend using bookmark lists for this purpose. They're like a watchlist on steroids. The watchlist provides only very basic features. With a bookmark list, you can turn notifications on or off with a single mouse click on the list edit page.

  8. The city of Lake Forest Illinois has placed a series of caches that have a "scannable" square on each container lid. I found two of them yesterday and was surprised that I was the first person to sign the paper log in the containerature. On the cache page there were multiple people who logged a find, but no signature.

Is this the appropriate way to log a cache? Comments

IF you want to look at them, there are around 15 placed for Earth Day. Do a search on Lake Forest, Il, you'll see them.

  9. Very well put. Why do people from the US expect everything to be in English. Heck, the US does NOT have an official language. Our Founding Fathers didn't think it was necessary.

Hey, we have just recently been to Paris, France and wanted to place a TB somewhere but it was rather difficult to pick a proper cache because many cache descriptions and instructions were written only in french which, however beautiful language it is, we unfortunately don't speak. I think it would be very helpful for many geocachers if the online descriptions were always written besides in the mother tongue also in english.

Whoa. :( When in France... do as the French do! Or use Babelfish. Um... I'm not a politically correct type of person, but that does seem rather... anglo-centered?

  10. I had a similar issue with a TB I brought from Europe to the US. I went to the regional discussion area and was able to locate a friend of the "hold on er" and they got the TB released after 11 months.

I'm havin the same problem with a TB. The user has noted that they picked it up, but after months of trying, I get no response from them. I don't understand. Hopefully it will show up.

I don't think we should just accept the fact that trackables are "stolen" when released. Education and a lack of apathy and sense of what is the right thing to do is the key.

As far as removing "stolen by", at what point is the trackable considered stolen? Has the retriever just forgotten to move it for ever? It can never be deemed stolen?
