  1. I started with a Magellan GPS 2000 that I got from ebay for $20. Used 4-AA's that would last 4 hours at best. The closest it would get me is 60-120 feet. It wasn't impossible to use but not the best either.

Now I have the Geko 101. Gets me within 5-20 feet. I am happy about how it works except it does burn through the batteries pretty quick. Uses 2-AAA's. One set will last me about 6-8 hours of constant use. The price was right so I went with it.

I agree and would also support the yellow eTrex - larger display, AA batteries with pc hook-up and around the same price. The knocking of ebay also shows a lack of understanding - if you use an ebay shop, rather than a private bidder, you can get brand new units. Mine came within 3 days in a sealed unit, was the cheapest I could find and nearly half what I'd pay in the UK. It was also WAAS enabled whereas those in the shops here are older non-WAAS models for twice the price.

  2. I am planning to set a series of wheelchair accessible caches along a dissused railway line which is now a footpath/cycleway. I would like to place 5 caches along a 1.5 mile stretch which offers great access and an interesting rural location. I appreciate that they will be relatively close together but as there are not may wheelchair accesssible caches in the UK I thought that it would give a great opportunity for those with limited acces to knock off a few in a single trip.

    1) Is this a good/acceptable idea?

    2) Is it ok to mix real and virtual caches in the series to provide variety?

    3) Is it ok to add them over a 3 or 4 week period or must I get them all ready before sending them for review?

Sorry there are a few questions but thes will be my first caches and I'd like to get it right.

  3. Many thanks to everyone who has responded - I've now seen the light, and even learned some html into the bargain! I've now got my cache page to look like I want it to and look forward to having it go live in the next few days.

I still think that Prime Suspects 'Spend your creative energy on the cache, not the cache page' philosophy is spot on but it is winter here and a little diversion is not all bad.

    Happy caching everyone :-)

  4. Thanks RustyBeerCan I'm nearly there but how do I do the "put my picture here" bit. I can't seem to paste having copied the picture and the URL for the picture does not seem to work. I guess I'm a total idiot!

  5. This is really great advice, thanks. I have now uploaded the image to Imageshack (great site!) and have that magic URL I was after. I know I'm being a right bozo but is there a way I can reduce the frame size so more of the tiled image is showing around the edge of the cache listing? Alternatively, how do I put a single small image in the listing?

    Thanks

  6. Thanks Prime Suspect (!) - I particularly respect your 'Spend your creative energy on the cache, not the cache page' philosophy. In the spirit of wanting to learn something I have noticed that many caches have decorative outlines and pictures. My first cache is to have a strawberry theme. I have a simple image - is it easy(ish) to add an outline of starwberries?

The picture I was hoping to use is one of Microsoft's Clip Art images - if I right click on this the only URL I can find is http://office.microsoft.com and I'm sure that's not enough?

  7. I'm watching this as I'm looking to add my first cache but am still not clear whether part of dinobalz original question was answered - can I complete a 'Report/Edit a Cache Listing' form and leave it inactive while I make improvements to it before I submit it to geocaching.com for approval?

  9. I'm a relatively new cacher looking to place my first cache but I'm no IT expert. I don't even know what a 'Background Image URL' on the Report/Edit a Cache Listing page is. Can anybody advise me?

  10. I am going on a short trip to Ireland and would like to take a TB from the airport's local TB hotel. There are several bugs there, some have been there for quite some time. Should I only take one or is it ok to take a few. Due to nature of my visit I may only be able to visit one or two caches so if I take several I may have to leave them in a single cache but at least they then get away. Is that acceptable?
