  1. Here is our geo-pup, Henrietta. We found her while caching. This is a picture of her first day in her new backyard Here's the log of our find
  2. Well it was more than just a can of beans. Somebody asks this question every couple weeks. If you go to the getting started page of geocaching.com you can read about the history of how it all got started. http://www.geocaching.com/about/history.aspx The cache is gone and all that remains is the original can of beans, which has become a travel bug of sorts. A marker has been placed in the original location. If you google original cache, or original can of beans you can find info about it. http://www.hmdb.org/marker.asp?marker=3121 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt= http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=83154
  3. I found my first few caches with a Magellan GPS 2000 XL. It worked great until I got under heavy tree cover, then it would freeze and the hunt was over. I quickly upgraded. Having a gps that will connect to your computer is well worth it. Especially when you really get into the hobby/sport. Ebay is the way to go. I got a brand new never been opened Meridian Platinum for less than $100. Most people here will tell you to get a Garmin.
  4. if you become a premium member you can do a pocket query for caches that are 5/5 terrain/difficulty GC16BHD requires scuba gear, and GCPEDZ requires a boat and looks like it's only been logged once in 2005
  5. I bought a never been opened palm IIIxe from ebay for $20.00. Here's a link for how to get started http://www.floridacaching.com/index.php?op...20&Itemid=9
  6. might want to move this thread to the geocaching.com website forum
  7. if the bike rack was in front of the great pyramids or something like that then yes. What are the apartment owners going to say when people start poking around the bike rack?
  8. "Sam, Ziggy says that there is a 70% chance that the geocache is 40 feet away and under a rock behind a tree."
  9. I would have to say queries of the pocketable variety
  10. I found this interesting. Does this mean we can't take our GMRS radios with us on our trip to from Canada to Alabama in June? Is it just a GMRS radio or are they FRS/GMRS? Most of these radios that you buy from Walmart have both FRS and GMRS and have 22 channels. USUALLY channel 15-22 are for GMRS only and require a license. Channels 1-8 are shared with GMRS and have to be used on the low power setting unless you have a license. Sometimes the radio switches to low power automatically, your manual should explain all this I found this interesting. Does this mean we can't take our GMRS radios with us on our trip to from Canada to Alabama in June?It means if you want to use the GMRS frequencies on your radio while on your trip you need to shell out $80. I forget, is there a test involved? no test involved, just fill out the paperwork
  11. I got started with paperless caching from this website. I bought the exact same palm from the article, the Palm IIIxe, cachemate, and GSAK.
  12. I googled "how to camo ammo can" and came up with this at the top of the list. http://www.mngca.org/articles.php?strArtTy...mp;strArtID=122
  13. I put photos of caches in my logs, but only if the cache page already has a description of what the container is and what it looks like. I always move far a way from the hiding spot to take pictures. I know that some people arent that careful. Then again I don't look at the pictures before I hunt the cache.
  14. OK, this is done in GSAK. Start GSAK Click "File" Then goto "Export" and click "CacheMate PDB File..." Close to the top there is a checkbox called "Use Defaults" this should be UNCHECKED Then there is a checkbox around the middle of the widow that says "Decode hints by default" this should be UNCHECKED also. Then click generate and hotsync your palm
  15. ok, I think i recreated what you are talking about. I have the exact same setup. From the main screen press the tab at the top that says "CacheMate" Then press the tab that says "Option" Then select "List Options" Select the pull down menu that says "Extra info:" Then select "Waypoint", press ok. Let me know where that gets you.

  17. I heard about it on the way to work on The Rod Ryan morning show on 94.5 The Buzz in Houston. Rod Ryan talked about geocaching for a few minutes. When I got to work I signed up and saw that there was a cache that I drove by everyday to work. It was my first find. GCP4R6
