We would like to congratulate the SPLASHES on their 11,000 find. We remember several years ago at Lake Powell when splashman had just gotten a new GPSr but hadn't used it yet. Having had one for a while we showed him a little about using it. Wasn't long after that we recieved an E from splashette about this new game using the computer and a GPSr. The rest is history. Again CONGRATULATIONS and thanks for introducing us to this sport and your hospitality.

Wanted to send out a big CONGRATS to rscaensd for find #1000!!!
Way to go Rscaensd! Many thousands more!

I'd rather have one in a paloverde tree than those clumps of cat claw where you see the cache just sitting there waiting for the next sucker. GFETE
I hate begonvia bushs myself.
Ever try and grab a cache near a beehive? We have...ouch!

I got a 60 CSX a few months ago and this has been a constant problem. I'm out hunting, I need to change my batteries and after I do, the pointer disappears. In fact, all the go to data disappears such as the distance and time till next. Every time, I end up having to do a hard restart to get the thing to work again. Sometimes I have to restart it several times. I sent the first one back to Garmin, they sent me a new one, and I have the same problem all over again. The people at Garmin say they have never heard of this problem. Is this happening to anyone else? What am I doing wrong? I don't want to be in a situation that I need my gps to get out of and have it fail on me.
When this happens try holding the "page" button until the compass returns...that's what we do when the compass dissapears..

jahoadi and john just posted their 11,000th find! Awesome Numbers!
-
Though some high numbers cachers have been known to stretch the definition of a find, others are on the up and up.
Even the ones who have an imaginative definition of a find still have amazing counts. If someone who found 25,000 caches stretched the truth on 10 percent of them, that is still a LOT of legit finds.
To reach those lofty numbers, these people have been at this for a long time, have plenty of spare time a dedication to geocaching that borders on an obsession (or to some steps over that border).
I know one geocacher whose nearly 6,000 finds may not seem all that impressive a day where dozens have 5 digit find counts, but he has accumulated that number in just two years and has done so in an area that is not conducive to numbers runs. His focus on geocaching is incredible. He'll find 5, 10, 15 caches a day, nearly every day and has found at least one cache for 680 consecutive days. Keep that up over 5, 6, 7 and more years and you see those counts that you find so unbelievable.
My wife and I get out as often as possible and are sure to carry our Garmins with us while on vacation. We set goals for the month and have friendly competions with alot of cachers who probably didn't have any ideas that we were chasing them. We have a local couple who likes to pass us up and it is always a thrill to catch up to them again even if they do have 150 that they have yet to log. For the exercise we chant but in reality we stay pretty close to the Jeep as much as possible...but then again we have been known to actually hike..The wife usually spots the cache first and has me "fetch". Keepin it fun! Oh, and we celebrate milestones too![]

Thanks for the tips and cache suggestions. I'll give y'all a little peek, but not much of one. First, the coords will bring you to the actual puzzle (yes, a physical puzzle). You'll retrieve the puzzle (first challenge) and solve it (second challenge). Next, you will head out into the boonies of East San Diego County (area TBD) and start at the trailhead coords (encrypted in the puzzle). As you head down the trail, you will have a few challenges to solve which will require a good degree of intestinal fortitude and a good head to complete. You will need at least one person skilled in climbing gear and safety, for your own safety (TheHikingMonk is one I know of). But, the trail itself will be hard enough. I am considering making this into an overnight cache, with a pre-built bivouac site for weary cachers near GZ. I'll try to make it comfy, but do pack light.
This will not be a trail for lone cacher. The hunt itself will require teams, that's an order. And, to make it a little better, I'm thinking about placing it in the Viejas Mountain area, unless it's too full of caches for mine and all I plan to fill the trail with.
Always Out Front!

Ok there soldier boy...slow down with the plans to kill all the civilians in San Diego. Why don't you start small...like with an Army green micro and work your way up to the all night adventure that Jim KWVERS! will have to lead. We're not all youngsters like you ya know.
PS...El Cajon Mt might still have a few blank holes
Time to lose weight...Oh Dear!!! Oh My!!!

I got a a great deal on my 60csx, and it's great, rugged and easy to use and like some others said you can load custom POI's but.... Like most people these days i have
an internet capable phone, i just go to the geocaching.com that i have bookmarked plug in the cache # im looking for and there ya go all the info plus all the logs. At least in my area there isn't anywhere now that you can't get even a little cell service. Iv'e had my hands on a 400t, nice unit kind of hard to see in direct sunlight IMHO. It's geocaching capablites are impressive i must admit, but i get the same results for ohhh 1/4 of the price
kwvers! here....Mrs.kwver was the first to get the Garmin 60csx...I have one now and enjoy it alot...While I go one direction toward a cache...Mrs.kwver will head in an opposite direction but before it's all said and done...We meet at the cache...romantic,huh!
I would be willing to field test an Oregon 400t...Wonder if Garmin would send me one? Thanks for all the posts regarding the merits of tthe Oregon 400t....

Many thanks to the California cacher who responded to me off-line and suggested a park with a good concentration of family-friendly caches. We've added that to our plans.
Looks like we'll also be spending some time in Anza-Borrego or Joshua Tree. I've been reading about all the controversy at AB ... definitely not a cacher-friendly area. But sounds as if there are some cool caches outside the park boundary. I'll keep researching.
All the best from the land of snow.

We will suggest a nice park in the Oceanside area....Look at GCKYXF

Hey Everybody! Today is Flagman's 50th Birthday! He completed the
Well Rounded Cacher (The Fizzy Challenge) to celebrate this momentous milestone!!
December 13 by FlagMan (5774 found)
WoooooooHooooooooooooo!! This was an awesome adventure!! I learned about this challenge about a month ago or so when the kwvers! completed it and their accomplishment was posted on our local forums. So I checked my stats and discovered that I only needed 1 combination to complete all 81!! Then I read the fine print a little more carefully, and realized there was a date restriction, so I checked again and this time needed only four combinations!! So I looked around SoCal and found four likely suspects and set out to hit three of them last weekend. I got the first one easily enough (only 150 miles away!), but the second one (an ammo can in a bush) just wasn't in said bush. Seems that very morning, the cache owner had relocated the cache AND changed the terrain rating!! D'oh!! Double D'oh!! It was a 4.5/2.5, a very rare combination!! Well, I found it at the new location and logged it, and the cache owner ended up changing the terrain back, but I didn't feel very good about it. So, anyway, I proceeded to the third cache and bagged that one. So, technically, I only had one left to do, and I set out to do that one Tuesday. But I also found another 4.5/2.5 in the vicinity of my "last" one, so I did both of those Tuesday. Then I got FlagSon Andrew all excited about flying up to San Jose today, my 50th birthday and two days after his 16th birthday, so we made the arrangements and flew up this morning (6:20 am flight), rented a Jeep, drove to the Big Basin Redwood State Park, hiked to the cache, and made it back to the airport to make a 2:00 p.m. flight back home! Andrew said, "This is soooo James Bond!!" Well, more like Austin Powers, if you ask me... Anyhoo, we had a blast and I can't think of anything I would have rather done on my birthday. Thanks for the challenge, and thanks to all the other cachers for the 81 exciting caches along the way!!
