  1. If you own a Geocoin and are not intending to release it, do you activate it so it shows on your profile? I ask because we have just purchased two Yorkshire Geocoins. We were intending to keep one and release one but we'd be very disappointed if we released one and it went missing.
  2. Well, we are now the proud owners of two of these lovely coins. We were going to keep one and release one, but they are so good, we can't make up our minds which to keep. Many thanks.
  3. We are doing it in August, so could you let us know how you get on? We cycled a few hills today which was hard going
  4. I prefer to get longer logs on our own cache so I try to leave longer logs too. I did leave a couple of short logs when we did part of a series in a forest park - by the time we got home a couple of them were indistinguishable in my mind. But in general I try to show my appreciation and if something amusing happened on the way to the cache I will reflect it in the log.
  5. I agree with you Sensei, but this brings us back to the recent topic on why people do or don't log DNFs. For example, yesterday we decided to try a couple of fairly local caches with the intention of picking up a TB. The first was an apparently straightforward multi - we solved the clues, walked to the cache location and after some searching were sure we had found the correct "gerr" (thanks to the hint), but were unable to find the cache. We have e-mailed the owners and depending on their reply will either log it as Found (but explain in the log that we solved the puzzle but the cache was missing) or as a DNF. We couldn't find the second one, but by that time it was raining so hard that we decided to call it a day. We haven't logged that as a DNF because we didn't spend that long searching. Both caches have some DNFs recorded on their logs so it could be that they really have gone. In these circumstances I would like to see the owners visit and check whether the caches are still in place. If they are, we will go and look again. Sorry to ramble but IMO there are sometimes circumstances where it is not appropriate to log a DNF.
  6. We were introduced by our good friends the WereRabbits, who I think read the same article.
  7. Ahh... ok... I think I've worked it out now. I think we've done two or three of his caches, too. Still don't know who Deceangi is, but am thinking about who hasn't posted on this thread yet.
  8. But do we know Lacto's alter ego? I certainly don't, at least not knowingly. And if we don't, should we? And if we shouldn't, maybe we shouldn't know Deceangi's. Confused? Yup!
  9. Welcome, whoever else you might be!
  10. Hi - I suggest you post this in the UK forum. Most forum members are willing to help out in this way if they are able to. I don't know of any cachers going to the World Cup though. Good luck !
  11. ... you see trees in terms of good or bad hiding places ...
  12. Thanks for your good wishes, Rose. I admire anyone who has done this trip, especially in three days! We think five days is more realistic for us (our youngest is 10). Doing a few caches will give us added interest if the cycling gets too difficult. I'd be happy if we did one cache per day in the middle sections, with a couple more at each end, just to trace the route in our logs.
  13. Thanks, we will probably do that as well. We have just finished plotting the route into Memory Map and included things like the places we are staying, and bike shops en route. I've also searched for caches near the postcodes of a couple of our overnight stops, which has thrown up some interesting looking ones, some of which look too far off the beaten track for heavily laden bikes and tired cyclists. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Hope you do get to do the C2C one day, Andy - now you've told us, you have to do it!
  14. Just found this again - thanks for the replies. It seems to have worked. I have tried this before but I think perhaps I didn't press the "confirm" or "change" button at the bottom of the page. Thanks all.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have added them to a bookmark list and we will research them properly. Will reply to e-mail, G-Force. Thanks
  16. We are planning to cycle from coast to coast - from Workington to Sunderland - in August and would like to do a few caches along the way. Does anyone know which caches are easily completed from along this route? Or has anyone already done a bookmark list? Our limitations/preferences are: We will be on bikes, with panniers, so anything too far off the beaten track is not realistic. Cycling 130 miles up and down steep hills is arduous enough! We are spending nights 1 and 2 at Keswick Youth Hostel so suggestions for caches which are an easy walk from there (if there are any) would be welcome. Our planned overnight stops are Keswick (2 nights) - Langwathby - Nenthead - Castleside (just outside Consett) - Sunderland. The point of the trip is to cycle, not to cache, but it could be a great opportunity to add some more counties and trace our journey via logbooks and cache pages. Many thanks
  17. How do you change the clock time to UK time, Scaw (or anyone)? - I can't work out how to do it!
  18. I appeared on TV in the 80s with a couple of friends when we were in the front row at Highbury for a football match. I also appeared on a radio quiz (Cash on Delivery, Capital Radio) as a teenager. I got to the semi-final and won £4.50 and a T-shirt. I was also interviewed (vey briefly) by Radio London at a "county" show - I was just one of a bunch of teenagers hanging around by the radio tent hoping to see someone famous. And about 8 years ago we (minus our youngest) were at the Science Museum when they happened to be filming a new exhibition - we were seen trying out an interactive display. Jen BikerKat
  19. 1203 from UB10 (near Uxbridge) - looks like that's the highest so far!
  20. Thanks for that info. My only concern is it doesn't come with a serial number to unlock the GPS features. I don't mind not being able to upgrade. Problem is, they haven't replied to my message, which makes me wonder if it's numberless or not We bought MM Region 6 from EVO last week and it came sealed and with serial number and works perfectly. We agree that this is almost certainly memory map selling off their 2004 version software. Go for it - £15 is a very good price for all those maps (just checked invoice and it came to £17.90 with postage).
  21. We saw this advertised last week, and e-mailed the seller asking if these were genuine memory map disks or illegal copies. We received no reply and drew our own conclusions. Each region of genuine memory map comes on its own CD. They do not supply all 12 regions on one CD. Each disk will come with its own serial number. You must have this serial number in order to register with memory map so that they can e-mail you the keycode to enable you to have full rights to run and use the software. For instance, without the keycode you will not be able to download caches from geocaching.com to memorymap. For what it's worth, we have been using memory map 2004 version since it was first released and find it very useful for geocaching (and cycling and driving). We have an IPAQ 5450 PDA to which you can transfer selections of maps via a serial cable, then using either a bluetooth or GPS linked via a serial cable you can track a route to the cache. Genuine memory-map 2004, costs around £15.00 per region and can be obtained from evo distribution Note: Version 2004 is not compatible with the new V5 memory-map!!! hope this helps. regards BikerKats
  22. Count us in - I haven't noticed any of our birthdays amongst those already posted... Jenny - 26 May Mark - 26 December Sarah - 26 September (notice a pattern emerging?) James - 31 October (he just had to be different!)
  23. We have one FTF to our name, bagged last Sunday, and four seconds, all bagged on the same day in January, the day after the caches were published. It was a good feeling, opening the log book and finding it empty - but I was disappointed not to get bells and whistles when logging it online, or some other form of recognition. It was good, but not good enough to warrant cancelling a prior engagement or getting up at the crack of dawn - I think that sums up our approach to FTFs. This leads me to wonder why some caches attract many cachers on the first day, while some (in the same area) stay unfound for days after being placed. Our FTF cache (a simple multi) was published on the Wednesday, but we didn't find it until the Sunday - very surprised that no-one had beaten us to it. Our 2ndTF caches were published on a Saturday evening and the first find logged as 7.45 on Sunday morning! The cache we placed was found twice the morning after publication. All these were in the same general area.
  24. We were wondering the same thing! Thanks for the link.
  25. So that's why there was such a long queue at our local petrol station this morning.
