  1. OK, I got all that going. Thanks for your help. Happy caching!
  2. I appreciate your help. I don't see the individual geocaches. When I open it, there is just one file there. It goes to the GPS, but there are no geocaches when I start the unit. I look in explorer and there is just one file there. I think it is the compressed file, that it does not read as a geocache. This used to be easier. I am missing a simple process in this. I want to see the individual geocaches. I guess I can do one at a time and see if that works. It is still a download to computer, then move to unit. Geocaching.com no longer downloads direct to the gps.
  3. So I am using windows 7, I don't know if that matters. There is no prompting to unzip the folders. I deleted gsak, and put another program called EasyGPS. It downloads the gpx file and I can even see the individual geocaches, but they don't download individually into the GPS. I think I'll get rid of the new program and see if I can unzip the file. I could move them if I could individualize them. Drag and drop makes sence, but the programs take over the process. I'm gonna get rid of the programs. Thganjs for the help.
  4. Gotta figure out how to at least put a geocache in this thing from the website...................funny that it downloads gsak. gottta be a setting I'm missing.
  5. So my pocket querys are all going to gsak format. Trying to download a cache into the eplorist downloads to gsak format. weird. Can I kill gsak? It is like a virus.
  6. Why is it a gsak data file? I don't want to use gsak. Just want to put the pocket quary into the explorist.
  7. So I got the file downloaded, but it seems to want to use gsak I don't know how to unzip it.
  8. So, lets revive this thread. Vatage point no longer works. How are you guys downloading pocket quaries into the Explorist GC?
  9. Really not that important I guess. You don't have to upload the cartridge to get credit for the cache find on most? Where are all the Wherigo experts?
  10. I finished a Cartridge using the iPhone app. The directions say: "Once you complete the cartridge make sure to save it in the Wherigo Player. When you return to the web site you can upload the save file to the site which will unlock the cartridge. The save file will have the name of the cartridge and end in *.GWS." I hooked the iPhone to the comupter to search for a .gws files. I can not even find the app in the files. I wonder if it is my settings on my phone that don't let me do certain things with the computer. Once you complete the cartridge make sure to save it in the Wherigo Player. When you return to the web site you can upload the save file to the site which will unlock the cartridge. The save file will have the name of the cartridge and end in *.GWS. I need an url for uploading a completed cartridge from an iPhone. Thanks for any help.
  11. Surely not? Had to throw that in. Having the same issue................gps is not showing that it is connected to the computer. The norm is to connect to the USB to the computer and GPS and then turn on the GPS and it should immediately ask if you want to connect to the computer. Mine is going through the boot up process instead of connecting. I'm wondering if others is the same? It seems like a poor solder could be the case..........if so they need a recall on these units IMO. .
  12. Thanks for the replies. We figured it out. Did not know that you had to be a premium member to download data. Now I know. .
  13. I am talking my daughter through using the Explorist GC over the phone. She deleted all the caches in the unit and then uploaded 15 that were close to her. The cache descriptions all say "become a premium member in order to........." This happened on all 15 caches she uploaded, whether they were premium or not. What kind of glitch is this and how do I fix it without the obvious and easy buy her a premium membership. Anyone else run into this?
  14. Yup it was in the spam folder. Wow, wonder how much stuff I miss. Thanks for the reply
  15. So I have used the geo store before. You have to log in to buy. I went to pick up a few travel bugs and some swag. I went to check out and I could not remember the pass word I used a few weeks ago. That is fine because the bot offered to send it to my E-mail. That was yesterday. Seems like good business to just send the darn thing. What could the hold up be? Should I shop REI?
  16. Vista operating system GSAK downloads to my downloads. I right click and it gives me the option to run. I run it and it never pops up? What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
  17. I have an old Magellan Explorist 200 that works fine, for what you are talking about. Anything on Craigslist would probably work just fine. We upgraded to the Magellan GC for better graphics and that worked great for a long time. With the Iphone, the Magellan Explorist 200 works fine.
  18. No, you are not charged again. We had the app for our Ipad, and then we bought and Iphone, and installed the app for free, since we had already purchased it. In the Apple App Store, you have "Purchased Apps", you can redownload any of them for no charge. Technology has gotten cool!
  19. That is cool..........is there something like that for the IPad? EDIT Found this.....I wonder if it would work with the app on the Ipad? http://bad-elf.com/products/gps/ EDIT EDIT Answered my question. http://bad-elf.com/compatible-apps/#geocaching
  20. We use our Ipad. We use free wifi wherever we can. We have wifi at the house. For caching it has good offline capabilities, but you can not nav to the cache without buying the minutes. You can save the caches you are headed for, for offline use and it has useful google type maps. Sometimes we log on the pad, and then send them while eating at VI with free wifi.
  21. Yes it is a good thing. I think I finally got it to work. I deleted the large active tracks file since I already had it saved on my desk top. Then I put the file strait from the downloads, after unzipping it, into the unit. Worked. No large active trackes file and the unit works. Thanks, but VP works great for this unit. It is the only way to download pocket queries, all at once into the unit. I always log right on geocaching.com Not sure if there is a better way........what is your unit? Got this to work......thanks for the zip file.
  22. Thanks. Tried that, but the file does not save in the unit. It shows as a new file in explorer. When I sync with VP it does not show an active track. But when I unplug and try to "clear all tracks" the unit freezes up, after a few minutes it resets itself. When I plug back in to VP the old file is still there. Weird glitch I guess?
  23. Back on this. I tried deleting the 'tracks' logs with Windows. I saved them first. There are two. One is "tracks" the other is "active tracks". After deleting them the GPS would not boot up. I put them back, and it works fine. I use Vantage Point to load pocket queries. Can I somehow use Vantage Point to delete the tracks? What is the "Synchronize" feature used for? Thanks.
  24. Very cool. I'll give it a shot, when I get a chance. Thanks for the help.
  25. Yes, I was there, I was just afraid to delete, because I can not tell the difference between essential files, and non-essential files. So If I delete some important software, can I download the software I deleted? Thanks.
