  1. Maybe I should just put my foot in my mouth and SHUT UP before getting everyone in America in trouble?
  2. Being in the Military myself, I know what its like being in the middle of nowhere, BUT posting cords for everyone to visit is misleading. People outside the gates cant come in and find the caches. In the geocaching guidelines, it states, "Off-limit (Physical) Caches: -------------------------- Caches near or on military installations." If a restricted area is on a military installation, why allow them to place caches? I know my free time was a bit on the "what to do next" list, but thats a part of being in the military.
  3. And as for my free time when I was overseas ... I always found a way to keep myself intertained somehow. I missed my family and friends back home, along with my hobbies. So I understand what they are going thru over there. But its also about the rules and guidelines we go by for caching. If we break the rules for this, then we can break them for any other reason we want when we want to?
  4. I have noticed alot of caches popping up overseas in locations that should not have caches. How many people can get onto a military base without having a need to be there? How many caches can you place on a military installation? How many people would/could get hurt using these caches as referance points? I know that I might not be seeing it correctly, but I think the answer to my questions would be ZERO, ZERO, TOO MANY! Who is the approving reviewer for some of these caches? Maybe they should read the rules again and rethink their caches overseas. I know I would be pissed off if someone decided to use the caches to hurt our fellow Americans and friends. This is one way to get our hobby into the spot light as being a BAD SPORT/HOBBY! On one military installation alone, I counted 52 (YES, that's fifty two) on 1 installation overseas alone. I dont think we should be allowing this to happen, but we should also allow our fellow Americans to have the freedom to hunt for caches while defending freedom. I know there is no gray area of letting caches being on military installations. Any one else think the say way as me? Why should we give the enemy the means to destroy our people by giving them the cords to just about anywhere on base, by using geocaches as referance points. How can we allow this to happen? RC
  5. I just moved to the area and am looking for caches that need to be adopted. Is there a list out there of all the adoptable caches? I live in the Southern Maine (Norway, South Paris, Oxford, Buckfield, Minot, LA area) and also looking for cache partners to go hunting with. Thank you. RC
  6. Thank you for that answer, I can agree with that one. A week or month of members only, then open to everybody else. Thank you. RC. As for flying rc planes, I am also an instructor pilot for them too. If someone needs to learn to build one, I also give great tips on that also. Repairs can also be done. Great fun, as long as its not really bad smashed up. Maybe we can go flying sometime?
  7. I will gladly pay for the membership, but as for EARTHCACHES ............ how the hell can someone "walk off with," "take things away from," "steal" an Earthcache? There are 2 of them within an hour from my house, one is a HUGE peice of lava flow from along time ago. How can someone pick it up and walk off with it? It would take YEARS to pick away at it with a pick and shovel, if that would even make a dent in it. The other one, members only and I have no idea what it is, it just popped up like 8 days ago. I cant read about it because I am not a member yet. I still think Earthcaches should be open caches for everyone. If you want your "boxes" to be members only, so be it. You cant really steal a TB from an Earthcache. I know I might be new to this caching thing, but we are all out to have fun ........... right?
  8. If you think all caches should be members only caches, then I will refuse to hunt for your caches at all. If all of your caches are all MEMBERS ONLY, then I wouldnt have to worry about hunting for them in the first place. With 9 of your caches not being MEMBERS ONLY, I guess you have already gotten alot of NON-MEMBERS lookin at your caches. So I guess you have already have gone back on "ALL CACHES SHOULD BE MEMBERS ONLY"? Makes you wonder whats going on here? Didnt you start off as a NON-MEMBER?
  9. Since when is an Earthcache a Members only cache? A new Earthcache popped up near my house and it says members only. Isn't the Earth everybodys home? How can we take the members only part off of that cache to share it with the rest of us "non-members"? RC
  10. The MOB happens when you press the mark button for longer then 5 seconds. Dont worry about it, I dont think anyone fell overboard. At least I hope not on land that is, it would hurt just a little to hit the ground.
  11. While lookin for a cache early in the morning, I was walking tword the cache following the GPS and almost stepped on a homeless dude laying on the ground in the woods. If I didnt hear him breathing, I would have called someone about the body (I thought he was dead at first). I left and came back later in the day after the homeless dude woke up and walked away. He didnt even know I was there.
  12. I also play paintball every now and them. The one thing I have learned, the welts do go away after about 2-3 months. My paintball marker is not as strong as most as I bought it at Walmart for only about $35. I havent thought about taking it with me on my caches, but that might work. Shoot back.
  13. It would be kind of hard to find a marker that is, according to the measerments and directions to find, that its in the center of the east bound lane of a divided highway. When the maker was placed in 1975, the road was just a 2 lane road. I dont think people would like me to try and dig up the road to see it the marker is still "under" the road. More then likely, it was bulldozed and graded away with the rest of the brush and stumps. As for the one that is right at the edge of the road, maybe under the shoulder, I would say the same thing happened to it also. I was also in West Texas a few months ago, and noticed that road/shoulder work was being done. The grader was pushing dirt and stuff around and I noticed a block of concrete with a disk on it. They distroyed about 10 markers along the side of the highway. Replacing colverts and widening bridges. I went lookin for a few more in the area and did see one what was not in the road ride of way (ranch land) that was not disturbed. The construction crew didnt even know they where there. Is there a way to let the departments know before they widen a road or brbuild bridges, to look for the markers?
  14. What happens when bench marks are near a road that has been widened? I have been looking for a few that are near a highway and the GPS says that they are under the road or under the shoulder. One was near an old gas station that no longer stands at the location. The roads and ditches have changed since the marker was installed. I was wondering, what happens if no one tells you a road is being widened?
  15. What happens if we dont sign up before the start date, can we still get in the scoreing? I wish I had my dad's old maps, he placed a bunch and did alot of other gravity work with a bunch of the markers. I was his "little finder" when he couldnt find the markers. RC
  16. Getting permission is easy to get, if you know who to contact. There are alot of caches that I know of that dont have permission to be in the places they are in. There are at least 5 in the town that I have found that I bet didnt get city permission to be placed (city parks, city signs, and light posts), but if asked, the city would be more then happy to give them permission. The city might even think of a few places to put them to get people to see places that arent really known about the area. All you have to do is ask, its not going to hurt any. RC
  17. So far, 36-1. Just hide my first one today , and its not up on the list yet. Yall come find it, down here in North Carolina. I just need to learn to be more stealty to get more of the in town micros. RC
  18. I would love to go on some of these, but need to get a little more experiance first. New to the hobby and need a little bit of time to get it all started. I love the outdoors and nature. Bench makers are one of my things to go hunting for, as most of them are just off the road or near train tracks, but lookin for something a little harder intrests me. I only got started on this hobby about 3 months ago and have found about 10 caches and about 11 bench markers, but really havent been lookin for any at the time. I am curently in Maine and will be going to North Carolina just after Christmas. Hope to see some cachers out there soon. RC
