  1. I love to geocache. When I can't, I love to read about geacaching (hence my bleary eyes from reading the forums for so long!). I recently saw a link to www.geoswag.com and checked it out. It's pretty cool, but I think someone could do better. Are there other sites that you know about that sell swah, have cool articles about caching, etc? Nothing will ever replace Geocaching.com for me , but when there are no new forum posts, new caches to read about, etc., sometimes I hanker for more and I just need to know where to find it!
  2. Good advice, thanks for the tip.
  3. It seems like I've seen some cool loking cache pages that looked like they were not using the standard template for listing a cache. Is it possible to edit the html on a cache page?
  4. I had that exact problem a week ago. I have been using PQs for 2.5 years, and have never had a problem. I was following all the guidelines (i.e., not over the limit of 5, ahd verified that the query had actually executed, etc). The, 3 days later, ***POOF*** the PQ comes into my inbox. I had made no recent changes to my email filters (nor had my ISP), so I have no explanation. I'm just glad it finally worked. Glad yours did too.
  5. My head hurts... So if the universe is not infinite, but finite, it has boundaries and takes up space. What space is it taking up and wouldn't THAT be part of the universe? OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! That's deep.
  6. Still using my trusty old Garmin Etrex. NOrmally I'm a bit of a gadget geek, adn I'd love to have one that would give me turn by turn directions out loud, but I'll probably keep using this one until it croaks.
  7. It definately depends on the cache. I've been known to be a bit stubborn, and I know I've kept others looking for far too long. I need to stop before it stops being fun...but I just can't seem to tear myself away. There is a cache that has gotten under my skin (Muggle Beach). If you read the logs, it sounds like a quick grab, but I've gone there 3 times and I can't seem to locate it. I've thought about emailing the owner for a hint, but I want to find it without one, since everyone else seems to be able to! Last time I was there I spent about an hour- my signal kept jumping back and forth. There is a small stream, and no matter which side I am on, the GPSr tells me I need to be on the other side!
  8. I updated my profile to include an avatar picture, but it isn't showing up. Did I do it wrong?
  9. Cool, thanks for the info, dudes!
  10. Wow, thanks. So it doesn't work due to the large volume?
  11. I've been a member for over 3 years now, and I have no clue what Markwell is. I have seen it referred to in the forums a couple times, can someone enlighten me?
  12. I need to up both my numbers!! Here's one more. Just kidding. I know cachers who've found hundreds of caches and never ventured into the forums. I've come to see this site as a community where I can get good ideas, meet people, and get lots of help from people. And sometimes I'll throw in my two cents.
  13. Wow, never knew there were so many flashlights out there. I'm sticking with my mini-mag lite and my Petzl head lamp.
  14. There is really no way to know this...I've never seen anybody shooting up, but it happens all the time in my town (we were in the top 10 rated cities for retirement in AARP). I have, however, witnessed geocachers littering near a cache (while lurking and waiting for my turn). If we all think about it, we can remember how ticked we were when we discovered that a cache we just found had been pilfered by 'pirates' or something objectionable was left in the cache. These things were done by- you guessed it, geocachers. I tend to be defensive of our kind as well, assuming that all cachers are as respectful as I and my geocaching friends are. All we can do is try to put the best face on our sport/game so that the rest of the world can see it in a positive light. Just my two cents.
  15. I am using an E2 for caching and it is awesome! I'm running Cache Mate, and it works great. It has other great features too! I use it for work also.
  16. OK, thanks everybody. I'm off to eradicate the pesky deer that create the darn trails that attract geocachers. Just kidding.
  17. I guess you missed this, then: "The signal took me along a deer trail, on the side of the pond opposite the main trail. This area is not supported by a maintained trail, and searching for the cache requires trampling through brush in a sensitive area. I would think this goes agains what the neighbors and city find acceptable. Just my two cents. " -My actual log on the cache.
  18. Still have to trade: Indiana (2) SilverMarc (2) California (2) North Dakota Ohio Dallas Fort Worth (3) Maryland GONE caching Rhode Island (2)
  19. How do I contact my local reviewer? I have a question about the ethics of a local cache, and I want to find out if it should be archived. I already logged a note to the cache owner, but I want to get the reviewer's opinion.
  20. I am in a similar community, and placed a cache in a common area where there was a similar posted sign. Someone sent a note to the reviewer, and they made me archive the cache. I understood why, and I simply removed it and placed it in a public park. No biggie. After further thought, I decided I didn't like the idea of assuming that anyone there to find the cache was a "guest" of mine. I don't believe that to be the intention of the "guest" policy.
  21. I've been using this feature for over a year and have never had a problem. Lo and behold, this morning the email came. If my ISP or email program rejects a file or message because of a suspected virus, I get notified. I'm still in the dark, but happy it finally worked! Now I get to cache this weekend. Yea! Thanks Jeremy, and all others for your suggestions.
