  1. Yeah, I know it's old... but you never know who's checking back on their threads!
  2. What a neat idea! If you wanted to PM me I wouldn't mind helping... I'm in Canada!
  3. So I've done a bunch of other peoples' trackables... snagged 'em, dropped 'em, and took them visiting. Some are interesting, so I've put that I want to watch them and I pretty consistently get an e-mail about where they are and what they are up to. Where is this option for my own? I don't see anywhere that I can check the box to get the e-mails... and she's done alot of visiting! Which I'm so happy about! So why do I get notified about Joe Blow's trackable, but not mine Is it because she's been shacking up the same cacher? Help! And thank you!
  4. Geocaching with a dog is awesome! I thought I'd have issues with my dog because he's a French Bulldog and they're not so good with temperature extremes and alot of excercise without rest (it's their punched in faces ) but he's been great! I'm not a fan of caching in temperature extremes and I don't run, so we're all good. The one time I took him, my 6 year old niece and her dog (a Border Collie Lab Mix) for a 4km hike and they loved it! That night the dogs and 6 year old were KOed nice and early! The only thing I hate with Jack is bushwacking on the leash... I swear he wraps his leash around trees on purpose! Grrr! And since he lacks "positive inter-canine skills", I don't like him off-leash. As for tips, I'm fairly new too... skip the nanos! I was at one last night that had me close to tears because I was so frustrated and because my "helpers" were doing the opposite. Be gentle when you're searching... leave an area just a nice or nicer than when you found it. Take your garbage with you, including bags of dog poo. It grosses me out when I see poo bags on the side of a trail... double bag it and take it with you! If you're getting into the swag, don't be cheap! It's disrespectful to other cachers. Trade even, trade up, or don't trade at all. Another pet peeve of mine. Even if you don't think you'll see anything cool, bring something just in case. I snagged a cool keychain, a Green Day pin, a magnet and a lanyard that I wanted for myself. I have kids too, so I always have stuff to trade with me which I call my swagbag. It has stuff for all ages. Some of the stuff I either have, have left or have seen are bagged hair elastics, little dinosaurs, bagged stickers, measuring tape, cool magnets, big coins from other countries, ducks, glowsticks, rings, mini flashlights, DVDs, CDs, keychains, puzzles, NEW McToys, Unassembled and still in the plastic egg Kinder Toys, bandaids, jewelry, gift cards, buttons (not the kind that close shirts), tools, hair clips, decorative spoons, NEW balls, bouncy balls, shot glasses, rain ponchos, sewing kit and other stuff. I try to leave caches better than how I find them. As for what to leave and not leave... don't leave food or anything that will rot... I've seen caches completely GROSS from melted candies. Plus animals are REALLY good at breaking into a cache that has food inside. Make sure your swag can withstand the temperatures of where you leave it. Don't leave bubbles, the containers leak. I'm guilty of this before it was pointed out to me. I usually try to snag the bubbles out of other people's caches. Have fun!
  5. I am on a anti nano kick... I have found very few of them and have DNFed (I think) five of them... the ones I did find were annoying because the logbooks were full and crammed, and I couldn't even write my name. Sometimes I think people place them just to tick me off! Gah! Especially when the coords are off! I agree with the make it a worthwhile visit... the one nano I did find was in a very area where I would have never gone.
  6. This is on my "to do" list... plus make it "Jack-Cacher" proof Originally saw it on YouTube. Yay!
  7. Right up my alley this is... I have found some crappy stuff including a cache full of melty oozie candy, a Strawberry Shortcake doll with matted hair (lovely) and the usual garbage and receipts. On another thread I read a Geocaching parent go on about how sometimes it's hard enough to get out the door with the kids, the swag and other supplies so they often take something and don't trade anything because their kids are so young and don't understand. My daughter is two and my son is four and we've been Geocaching since June. From the very first cache we ever found, which had some cool stuff, I enforced the trade up thing. That first cache we went to spur of the moment and had no swag. Guess what we took NO SWAG. Sure the kids were disappointed, but I stressed respecting others and being fair. The closest thing I've done to not trading is taking the garbage out when I had no swag with me. And really, if the kid is really THAT gung-ho about a swag item, bring them back with something to trade for it. And I don't put stuff that's worn out in there... dolls with matted hair, dirty toys, plastic puzzles with the little metal ball missing... you get the gist. As for our swag, it varies... I either have or have had in my Swag Bag some of the following - collectable spoons, keychains, pins, dirty magazines (just kidding), books, photoalbum, stickers, Silly Banz, stamps, scrapbooking scissors, plastic dinosaurs, playdoh, cookie cutters, hair elastics (in their own baggy with a label stating it's brand new geoswag with our name on it), McToys un-used and still in their un-opened bag, cars, pens, and jewelry. I think it's disrespectful to not trade evenly... it's selfish! Gah!
  8. I LOVE IT!!! I think I'm going to use that! Awesome!
  9. Thank you everyone for your help... I have now grabbed it and erased the other two logs
  10. Hey there, This week I picked up a TB... TB1AYA2. I thought it was pretty cool that it hadn't been seen in three years and logged that I discovered it. When I went to log it as "dipped" it wasn't on my "Log Cache Page"... I checked the page and it's still says "Last Seen with so-and-so". Does "So-and-So" have to release it to me in order for me to be able to log it? Picking up this TB was his last log and that was 3 years ago. Help! Thank you!
  11. I would be a little grossed out to tell you the truth... What about Christmas Ornaments? Or magnets?
  12. Haven't seen it, and didn't even know it was coming... found two caches on the way home from my SIL's place! One of them super cool!
  13. A new softball would be awesome... I think new stuff is awesome. Where alot of the caches seem to be getting junky is all the really used up stuff... dolls with matted hair, assembled and incomplete Kinder toys... gah! Some great ideas here! I know some peple hate the McToys, but what about if they aren't opened and are still in new condition? What about Kinder Toys that are still in the orange egg and unassembled? Or those collector spoons? Good link http://drmomentum.com/aces/archives/001997.html
