When I buy a purse it has to be big enough for the gps. I've, also, had TB jeeps in my purse. People do look strangely at a grown woman carrying around toy jeeps.
Where do men carry their GPS?

I would have used "Balls on" much less offensive.
Seriously...I use a lot of acronyms, slang and old military/gov. terms. I also abbreviate a lot of things.
I recently logged a cache by saying "....great cache adding this one to my BM list."
That got the cache owners all upset...I explained that was my "bookmark" list of San Diego favorites. They never responded or apologized.
The way I look at it is it should be fun...to be fun...we all have to flex a little...if you are soooo stiff and ridged that you can not bend/flex then you should not be doing this or for that matter should not leave your house.
ROFLOL.

A friend introduced it to me. I thought she was nuts. Especially the first time she took me caching and she entered in the wrong coords! We were looking all over for something that was not even there?
The point? I thought it was stupid.Flash forward a few months...
I started going through a divorce and figured I needed something to keep me occupied. Hmmmm...maybe I could buy a GPS and cache. It was a good idea. I have learned to get by on my own (with a little help from friends and family).
Whenever I get lonely or bored I can go find a cache. I love a road trip and there is *always* a cache where I am going. My daughter recently heard the song "On the Road Again" and she told me that was my song. I was flattered.
I like the techie aspect, the outdoors, and reading other's logs. I can't say it is the answer for all that ails me but it has helped me to remember that fun is important. I tend to be overly serious and caching lets me be silly.
I am excited that I am approaching 100.

I live out in a rural area where most caches are scenic and take time. I had to laugh when I found my first lamp skirt cache about 50 miles away. So, this is what all the fuss is about? Out here in the boonies a park n grab can be a nice thing. Since that first one, I've found 2 more. I have to admit they are boring. The only exciting thing about it was watching the kids race to the pole.
I have to confess a caching buddy and I hid one last night at Walmart.
We have some great micros in our area (a nut and bolt which is mine, acorn, pinecone, etc.). Why not have a chessy one? I figure we can provide a little something for everyone.Abigail

I can see wanting to keep it unoffensive. I have no right to force my veiws on anyone. Likewise, no one has the right to force their views on me. I don't like Nascar racing, But I'm not going around removing every reference to racing because I don't care for it. Remember, you are not the grand censor of the universe.
This would seem to be comparing kumquats to aardvarks. And that would seem to be inanity. I suppose that if you have deeply held beliefs concerning NASCAR, then you should avoid caches with a NASCAR theme. NASCAR, however, does not promote an agendum. And that is where your analogy fails. Personally, I do not care for NASCAR. My prerogative. But it does not promote an agendum. Your proposal would promote an agendum. As would a political theme. As such, it would see to violate the guidelines.

People who leave Nascar stuff know there are other people who like it. People who leave DC talk know other people (not just Christians) like the music.

You're comparing aardvarks and kumquats. Obviously, you failed to comprehend my point.
What agendum does NASCAR promote, that is in violation of geocaching guidelines? The fact that they accept advertising? What a bizarre concept! I was quite shocked to find a three-story advertisement on the breather tube of the Lincoln Tunnel. I thought that the Port Authroity was above that.
The point is: If you wish to avoid arguments, never discuss politics or religion. That is the way things are done in polite society, because those are the subjects that will cause the most arguments (well, after micro caches, and signing the outside of caches with a Sharpie.)
As such, those subjects are best avoided, unless you have an agendum.
And that was my advice to the JesusFreak: You are better off to avoid such controversial subjects.
Why would leaving a Christian CD offend anyone? I think Nascar is totally redneck (I do have close family members who watch
) but I don't care if you place it in a cache. Believe me, we DON'T need to promote rednecks. I am not leaving Christian tracks. Someone has already stated they usually are the first thing wet and moldy. And I know they would turn people off when they see 'em.
I do leave Christian music. Gasp. Would I love for someone to hear the music and respond to Jesus? Sure. Is it OK if they just like the music? Yeah. I know people who are not Christians who listen to Christian music. If I didn't think someone would want it I wouldn't leave it for swag.
The point of swag is leaving something that has value(in the eye of the beholder) that someone else will appreciate.
He is using it as swag. He is not proposing to have a Christian themed cache.
I agree totally about not arguing about politics or religion.

Is this what you mean or do you mean a TB tag?
I just turned my walking stick into a TB and I am trying to send it down the Northville/Lake Placid trail to get lots of scenery pics. Then maybe the Appellation trail. I was just wondering where you guys get those little metal Groundspeak tags that I've seen on a few different walking sticks? I think the walking stick TB's are really a cool idea and I would love to see more pics of the ones that you guys have. Nothing that's store bought, I want to see pics of original and hand carved and hand finished walking sticks. Swizzle

After seeing a cotton-mouth about 2 feet long near a cache I decided to invest in a stick. Sometimes I wish I had gotten it a little shorter but it does help to pull my girls up a hill.
We've seen a few state parks this summer and I like to buy a hiking medalion. It is a souvenir I don't have to dust.
Recently we took a news crew to some caches for a story and the anchor woman used my stick. See this cache for pics. Yes, my friends make fun of my stick because I drag it out every chance I get.

As for adopting the coin into your profile...they don't cost alot-get your own.I have 138 TBs and somewhere in the vacinity of 40 coins. (mostly unactivated. alas where's the time.)
All but a few of the coins have been given to me, as gifts, at events and I would never release them, but not because I'm a collector. Each coin actually has a meaning for me. I take them to events and let folks use the "discovery" option so they can get another coin icon on their profile.
I can absolutely see taking a coin I own to an event and allowing people to discover it. When it is over I would have a list of all the people I've met and a coin to remind me of the event. That would have meaning.
Logging other peoples' TBs at events just for the icon is something of which I was unaware. I've learned something new. I can't say I am interested but it is just a different part of caching.
As for my sense of humor (sigh), it isn't any easier to understand in person. I guess I am blessed to have friends who can appreciate a VERY dry sense of humor.

Before someone decides I need a correction on a TB moving from "cache to cache" I just read for myself that it can also move from "person to person".
I, also, learned I can move it to an "unknown location".

For now, I think I'll wait a while and see if it goes back into a cache.

I was given a Compass Rose coin as I gift for my class. The idea was to watch it move from cache to cache. Well, it was stolen in a short period and I released the coin again with only a pic.
It was grabbed by a cacher and taken to the big event in Texas. Since then it has been moved around from person to person. It is also at some poker event somewhere.
The idea was for the coin to be in a caches! If they wanna log a coin they can buy their own.
I would rather see the coin disappear than have all these people log it at an event to get a icon. Is there any way I can "kill" my coin?
I'm sorry for you. With the attitude you display about activity on your trackable, in my opinion, you shouldn't send any more out into the world.
They will give only you displeasure if you try to exert control in situations where you MUST REALIZE that you have no control.
It's FUN to let a trackable live its OWN life.
A travel bug is personal property that has ben left in "Public Trust." Now, How much do you trust the public?
Let go of your unrealistic expectation that finders will OBEY your every (in this case, unstated) comand and you WILL begin to enjoy its journey. (In this particular case, your paper coin says absolutely NOTHING about not wanting to attend events.)
If they still give you heartburn after awhile, contact Groundspeak and have them adopt your TBs over to MY profile. I'd be HAPPY to have that kind of activity on one of my TBs.
IMHO- A coin was a poor choice to represent your class. Coins verrrry rarely travel far before someone just TAKES it assumingly for their collection. I have been LTP (Last To Place) on a few coins that just disappeared from the cache I put them in NEVER to be seen again. NOW I only move traveling coins at events so I can direct any further inquiry to its whereabouts to the person I handed it off to.
IRONY: The last coin I was ASKED to drop in a cache instead of at an event went missing right away along with my cache.
One of the interesting things about geocaching is that people with different ideas can enjoy it.
When I released the 2 bugs I own I did it knowing they could be stolen, lost, etc. I didn't want to release the coin at all but the giver assured me that is why she bought it for me. Since the giver didn't seem to mind if it disappeared I didn't either. She actually got me two and one just like it is sitting at home.
I didn't really mind the first event the coin showed up. But now it seems to be spending more time at an event than a cache.
Let's face it, the people who are logging as found are not "finding" the coin. They are writing the number down at an event and logging it. They haven't found it in a cache and they are not moving it to a cache. Purpose? It is interesting to see the profile of the people it is moving back and forth from but that gets old after a while.
People who geocache have different goals. I assumed when I sent a TB out it would travel from cache to cache. In fact, I thought I had read that is what a TB was for?
I will have to admit the coin has been to some interesting caches (when it could). I really appreciate the people who have taken the time to move it.
Thanks for the reply, Snoogans. I can assure you I am not staying up at night wondering if my coin is happy at the event. BUT I am still of the opinion that if you want to carry around a coin at an event and show it off it should be your own.
I understand that different geocachers geocache differently.
I was being a little "tongue in check" when I said I wanted to kill the coin. My EX-husband always said he could never tell when I was joking.

There was a cacher around here who festooned the hide areas around ammo cans in the woods with surveyor's tape! He said he was trying to, "help other cachers". The ammo cans mostly disappeared, becoming so conspicuous. Real helpful.
Several of us kept watch on him and followed him around, removing surveyor's tape. A true jerk.Wow i thought i was bad by placing a stickers on pole caches. yep you place a cache on the inside of a light poles base, i place some kind of car sticker on the pole. i just got tiered of the same kind of hide every place i went. 6 caches in one day 3 where light poles. people find some new ways of hiding the caches. o wait i got one 2 days ago that was a new pole cache they used a magnet and stuck it under the base of a light pole but this time they stuck it up under the top of the base so when you pull up the base you don't see it. man you got to love urban caching.
I love to hear ya'll complain about light pole caches. I have to drive miles down dirt roads and then hike through spider webs, briars, etc. to find caches ( and mostly loving it). I was excited when I found a light pole cache 'cause I had never seen one. "Wow, it is hidden under the skirt of the light! I've read about this!"

Lots of threads complaining about contents of caches and maintenance issues. I am curious to know if certain regions have "better" caches.
We recently cached in Mena, Arkansas and I was impressed with the condition of the caches. Clean, well-taken care of, and good swag. I didn't find a million bucks but my kids went away with some nice stuff(I left with an empty swag bag). The hides weren't always difficult but each one was enjoyable. I went away impressed with cachers in Mena.
I want to try the Appalachian Mts. next. Wonder what their caches are like?

Country caches, usually. City caches every once in a while for a change of pace. Of course, in La. even city caches are kind of country

Whoooeee! Got my Jeep in the mail. Won't have time to hide it in a new cache-will have to settle for one of my old ones. Oh, well, what do you expect when school starts for us Monday? It'll make for a brighter week knowing there are some jeeps floating around out there.

Absolutely. TOO hot. Went out today to do a new cache. Left at 9 a.m. We had to wear pants due to the undergrowth. By the time we got home at 9:58 I was dripping sweat and cranky. Who wants to wear boots, pants AND watch out for poisonous snakes? And I was still only STF!

I am high school geography teacher in rural west Texas, we have a very small budget to buy the necessities for the classroom (books, pens, paper, markers, etc.). I am looking for ways to use GPSrs in the classroom and ways to fund them. I am looking into the grants mentioned above but ideas on how to use it inthe classroom for geography would be great, I have a few ideas but always looking for more.

Inkbleed got her Jeep today. We mailed on the same day. I am the one who told her about it. It wouldn't be fair for her to get her Jeep and me not have one. I rushed home (they close at 4)and I got there at 4:01. She was leaving. Oh, no!
"Do I have a package?" I ask.
"Yes, you do."
"Please, can I have it? Please, it might be a Jeep."
She is kind enough to go look. Don't cha love a small town? They humor the crazy geocaching people.
"It doesn't look like it," she says casually.
It wasn't a Jeep...it was a book. A book! Where is my Jeep? (anguish, weeping) Oh, where art thou, oh my Jeep?!
OK. I am over it. I'll check again tommorrow. I've got a new book to read!

I ran into a fellow-teacher yesterday in Walmart. We chatted. Suddenly she says "I thought about you this summer!" She goes on to tell me she was waiting in her car for her grandchildren to finish day care. She notices a car pull up, a young boy emerges, runs across the road, climbs a fence, he pops the cap off the fence, removes something from inside and takes it back to the car. A few minutes later he returns the object and returns to his car. She realizes that they must be caching. My daughter (genius that she is
) said "They must have been checking the log." I've seen 3 cachers. Two were driving away from a cache we were about to find. Another time, I saw cachers looking through swag in a cache I hid near my home (in hopes of seeing other cachers).
What are the chances that you would be sitting there minding your own business and see a cacher?

Did this cache and saw a SNAKE when I got to the top. UGH. A huge snake in the middle of a swamp and I am on the top of an oil derrick. WHOOOEE!! I love to cache. Of course, the kids were at home.
