  1. For those asking about magnets, I've got a good tip that also include recycling. With all of the personal data theft, you should never throw away an old hard drive. Even if you wipe it, it should be recycled. Well, here's what you do. Before you take it to the recycling center, open it. Inside you will find 2, VERY STRONG magnets. These magnets are welded to flanges that have holes in them to keep them screwed to the inside of the case. Not all of them can be re-used and they can be a pain to get to. But, once you do, I just mark where the holes are on the bottom of my cache container, drill holes, and attach them with bolts (Using nuts, lock washers and a little JB weld on the threads to keep them in place). My Micro 209 cache is one such that I used a single, small Hard drive magnet on the bottom of an Altoids mini tin. Strollin' With Trolls is also made this way, but with a larger mint tin. (There are images on both Cache pages) I've thought about useing 2, maybe 3 of these larger ones to turn a 30 or 50 cal ammo can into a magnet cache!!!! I have a box of about 15 of these and will be recycling some more drives soon. I've started keeping a couple attached to an old wrench I stick in my back pocket and leaving them in Caches for other people to take and use for their own.
  2. There are no firmware updates for the Explorist series at this time. Do NOT try to use Firmware for any of the other series or you'll kill your new toy.
  3. I'm working on one, no pictures yet as it's a PROTOTYPE. Basically, I'm taking a medium sized chunk of stone (yes, real rock) that has a nice smooth bottom surface. It's about 10" by 8" by about 3" thick. I've cleaned the bottom with a wire brush to remove any loose dirt or debris. Then rinsed the bottom. With the bottom clean, I've taken some VERY STRONG Epoxy and affixed the lid off of a plastic tub (Butter tub) to the bottm and let it dry. I then painted the Butter tub with a light spray paint that matches the color od the stone close enough. I can now snap the bottom part of the tub into the lid to act as the container. The idea is that I will be able to place the cache in with a pile of stones, or even on th ground in the woods, as long as I clean out space under the stone (Dig a little bit of a hole, or place other stones just right) for the butter tub to protude down, out of sight. Who's going to go into the woods picking up every decent sized chunk of rack they see?
  4. I had a 200 I got at Wal-Mart for about 2 weeks. I got tired of manually entering the Waypoints and Cache info. I loved everything else about it. Took it back, got my $149.99 (That was before the price drop) and ordered a 210 from GPSmarketplace.com for $153.00. I love it. -Runs on AA Batteries -USB connection and Geocaching management software for importing the .loc files. -Fits your hand nicely -Controls are well laid out -Consistently get good signal from Sats. -Can run on USB power (I have a standard Cig Lighter to USB power adaptor I use for my PDA and MP3 player and now my GPSR) -Menus are clean, simple. -Even loads the Cache Logo's from GC.com (Cache box, ghost,"?" Multiple boxes...) on screen for the Geocache.
