  1. Sorry I meant Detective, bad spell checking. It must have been a senior moment. Because when I looked at the clues and saw 1 /2 (1 of 2) the light came on and I realized I needed 2 of each evidence clue and then will need 3 of each Jewel. Thank you.
  2. We started to work on the Mystery yesterday. I am more inclined these days to geocache when I have a goal and these souvenir adventures provide a good opportunity to do so. I started yesterday and got the defective. Since I have cleaned out much of my local area--I had to learn how to search for the clues and have them somewhat nearby. Got my Detective Souvenir and on to the clues. I compiled 3 lists of clues and today I found one of each. Surprisingly this did not cause the 2nd souvenir to appear nor am I able to search for jewels yet. Then I realized I needed to find two of each clue to open up the next level. 1/2 implies that I need 2/2 to complete. At this point on to the next. I am enjoying the adventure.
  3. My opinion, in the end it is a game. Group caching can be fun. A day out not watching TV or excessive use of electronic devices. It is more economically to group log, using a team name. Good for CO’s doesn't fill up logbook—anything low maintenance is good. I like to go after highly favorite caches, old caches and other caches that interest me. I go out alone or with a few friends. Occasionally we like to group cache. Actually this is quite rare--probably no more that 5 of us. Power runs or geo art trails and great to do with multiple people and speak to the social side of the sport. As to fancy logs. I have about 50 caches or so and get a lot of TFTC! It is ok. I also get the travelogue log and occasionally I do it myself. Multiple logging with GSAK after a hard day’s caching. It is all good. On special caches I do try to take the time to write and a good log, and we always log the old fashioned way on these beauties. It is a game and can be played many different ways. One of my favorite caching days was when we did the Stud Mill Road Run in Maine 109 caches from 5AM to 7PM. Not sure if that would count as a power run anymore. The average caches were .7 miles apart and there were special caches thrown in. This day was when we first starting caching and we bonded to some of our best caching buddies on this trip. Also this run is no more.
  4. I received a link from a friend to do a series of lab caches located at Ferry Beach State Park in Maine. We did the caches yesterday and they were great. When I when to the lab cache page, this series was not listed there, but there were listing for Mega events and such. Where can we see a complete listing of available lab caches. I have not been able to find this on geocaching.com. I am glad my friend sent me the link otherwise I would never have known that these caches existed. The only other Lab caches that I have done was for the Berkshire Mega event in July.Question: Is therea complete listing of all available lab caches and where can we find it. Thanks.
  5. I would definitely buy the 9.99 version. Way more features. It is the GPS program that I use the most and the one that coat the less.
  6. We use a smartphone, PN60 and oregon 550. Hard GPS units better battery life for trails. PN60 definitely best maps and good gps feature. For the money best choice. Use the phone most of the time when caching locally and doing a few quickies. Do not need to worry about loading it if there is signal. In the end it is individual choice and best deal you can get. Our PN60 was on sale when we bought it and the same with the Oregon.
  7. No, not taking it off. I can not not cache for that long. Thought the souvenirs were lame at first, but they kind of grow on you. I really do not care about SOUVENIR clutter. I am not that dramatic. Having said that, one team member really wanted to do it. So I have been doing the streak and am almost done. What is not to like about a streak in August. No brutal weather, blizzards, ice, freezing temp and frozen cache containers to deal with. I think the idea of a short streak appealed to me more than the souvenirs. It is increasing my activity level for August and that is a good thing. LOL. Does anyone really care?

  9. No right answer. You can attend or not whether you did or not. Up to you. I don't log my own events. But I usually attend them. Either way do what you want. The point is no right answer.
  10. No point in counting dnf's or anything else for me other than finds for me. I cache to find caches and prefer not to know how many dnf's I have posted, especially if they are on multiple trips to the same cache. I am fine with counting finds only.
  11. I would classify it as small. Regular size ammo can is regular for me. Having said that small covers a lot of territory, because there really isn't a category for micros and nano's or xs.
  12. Yes, my choice is to not read them or pay attention to them in any way. I happily log the cache and move on to the next. There is a cacher in my area who does this. I am thankful to him for the many caches that he put out that I used on my 366 day streak.
  13. I would never leave food or anything scented. When I first put out my Maxwell cache. I put dog toys in it. Rubber balls, some tennis balls and other dog toys I had collected and did not use. They are all gone now. The idea was for other cachers to take them for their pets. That was one of the ideas behind the cache. I may restock some day. Now it is an ammo can in the woods. Another cacher in a local area put a cache out near an animal orphanage and had a cat theme. He stocked his cache with a nice assortment of inexpensive cat toys (non scented). He did a really nice job with his cache.
  14. Most orphaned caches should be archived. Best move is to usually put needs archived on these caches---but don't do this unless it really needs to happen, such as long gone cacher and cache that needs maintenance. Not like one cache that I found that was archived day I found it. Other cachers had not found and put NA on it. CO who adopted cache didn’t bother to check and just put it down. If the caches are archived that frees up the area for cachers like yourself to put new caches out. There is another consideration and that is the older legacy caches that every area has that everyone would like to see preserved. Do not put a NA on these ever, these we try to save and will keep going by doing maintenance, try to adopt, etc. In our state this applies to most of our 2001 caches--not many left.
  15. My feeling is photo logging, No. If container is missing, DNF.

    A list?

The best way I have found to see TB's is at events. Usually people will bring TB's to events to be discovered, share from collections (discover only) or move on.
  17. Overall I agree with the post that says that once you launch the tb they are out of your hands. I like people to log them. usually it means they are still active. Frankly you can months without a log. Personally when I have tb's I do like to have them visit caches that I go to. I do not have them visit all of the caches, but try to pick a cache from an area I visit and log it one time. So if I did a trail series I might log the tb once or twice but not 15 or 20 timers. It helps to put some mileage on the tb and lets the cache owner at least know that it is getting logged. I generally try not to keep a tb over 2 weeks if I am actively caching or a month if not. Right now it is winter, I am vegging and I got rid of the tb's I had at the last event I went to.
  18. Rain write paper is awesome. Will change all of my caches to this type of paper as I do maintenance. Otherwise wet Messes of clumpy paper---Yuck! Ammo Can, please use a real log book--do you really like to do a lot of maintenance? Ammo Can in the woods, real log book, years later--it is still there with no maintenance to speak of. Priceless. I often think of the old caches that I do: Ammo Can in the woods, log book, CO long gone and cache is still in excellent condition.
  19. From the replies the answer is that everyone caches for different reasons and with somewhat different purposes. When we started we would go out after work and do 3 or 4 caches and come home. Then we met some other cachers and would go out all day with them. When we did the Stud Mill Road Run we did 109 caches in one day and another 60 caches or something like that when we finished the area. To do this we left at 4 am in the morning and cached until we heard the Moose pawing the ground late at night. It was a lot of fun. I recommend finding other local cachers and going out on caching days with them if that is something that would interest you. I know that we have enjoyed it. Planning is also key. Take a trip somewhere find out what cachers are there. Any awesome caches--check for favorite points. Like to ride bikes, find trails with caches on them. The list goes on and on. It is a sport that can be played many ways and enjoyed by all.
