  1. I am never ashamed of them. I think they are just as fun as finds. I have a blind spot for bisons hanging in pine trees. It actually makes me laugh at how difficult I find these things when others find them in minutes.
  2. Thanks everyone! This cleared up everything I was wondering. Since the caches are all within a mile of my house I am going to contact the owner privately and see if there is anything I can help with since I've been out and about so much lately. Thanks!
  3. THIS. I find it as simple as that. The only way for a "find" is to SIGN THE LOG.
  4. Maybe someone found it to be a romantic spot.
  5. Meh...some of the most brilliant people in the world swear regularly. Some of the greatest writers of all time swear regularly. Some of the best books have lots of swearing in it. It has nothing to do with vocabulary. I find words such as, "like" and "whatever" to be more of an indication of a weak vocabulary.
  6. I have his noodly goodness affixed to my car!
  7. When someone asks me what I'm doing (this is a bit off topic, sorry) I tell them 1 of 3 things, depending on the cache I am looking for. 1-"I dropped my purse and am looking for an earring that fell out." 2-"Pretty tree huh?" 3-"Just waiting for someone." I also think that as a short 30 something female I am far less suspicious looking than other people. I can behave in a more suspicious way than other people. My husband on the other hand who is over 6 feet tall and very large and bearded finds he is more conspicuous and is more often asked what he's doing.
  8. So there are several caches from the same cacher that have been in disrepair. I don't want to appear to be picking on this cacher, the fact of the matter is I actually like their caches. But it seems they haven't done any maintenance of any kind, or said anything at all since March. Is this too soon to suggest archiving some of these caches? I don't want to appear to be a jerk. But there are 5-6 caches by this same person that are clearly missing or destroyed with no word since March. Is that too soon?
  9. I don't care about swearing, I only care about the intent behind words. You can lovingly use the f-word in an affectionate way. You can also rip someone apart without a single swear word. Intent is all that matters to me, personally, so I wouldn't care. But to each their own.
  10. I do almost all of my caching alone, but that is just suburban caching. Hiking caches and other kinds of winderness caches I never go alone, I follow the same rules I follow for all my outdoor adventures. I rarely go alone and if I do someone knows EXACTLY where I am. And that's pretty easy with geocaching if you let someone know what caches you are going for.
  11. I wrote a short story about geocaching...but it was just a writing exercise. I might have it edited and put it on Amazon for free.
  12. Obviously zero of them had to do with College or Professional Sports then. And then there's always unmoderated Usenet, where death threats are common. But we'll keep our harsh forum here, where dam with n on the end of it is automatically changed to dadgum. I don't even know what happens with the dozens of worse words one could come up with. Not to mention his OP had nothing to do with fourms/chat rooms/message boards, but with his local Geocaching community. Yup. My apologies. Oh geez, now you're making me feel like I was harsh. Seriously though, this is one of the most highly moderated forums on the internets. You can't even mention "competing" websites without getting banned. Many of which I don't even consider "competing" websites myself in the first place. I almost take it personally when people say that it's a harsh or nasty fourm, and usually am of the opinion such comments come from people who have visited very few. It's really rare when someone pegs it in the top 5% of nasty forums. Well, when I say harsh I don't mean things like swearing or heavily moderated. I mean the mood of the board. I mean the way people react when someone says something. MOST of the time, no matter what is said it seems people get snark or arrogance instantly. That's what I mean by nasty and harsh. It's one of the least welcoming places I've been. JMO. Sorry for causing a problem. I really am.

  14. I wouldn't take it personally. I've been online forums/chat rooms/message boards for over 15 years and this is in my top 5 for hostile message boards. I've been a member of at least 100 different online groups ranging all kinds of topics and demographics. This one is HARSH. Not sure why...but it is.
  15. I log a DNF if I've had a proper look. Last week I went to go find a cache but someone was parked directly in front of it and they were in the car and didn't move. I waited for like 15 minutes for them to drive away (it wasn't another cacher) but I just decided to come back in a few days. I didn't mark that as a DNF because I didn't even get to look.
  16. Weird? I think that's too nice a word for this. Maybe I'm a giant baby.
  17. The DNFers were experienced cachers. My suspicion is that the cache owner replaced it, but did not post a log. Even experienced cachers have DNF's once in awhile...... Sometimes you can walk right up to a cache and just SEE it when others just never can find it. I looked for a cache once on 3 separate occasions, one time with my husband and daughter and we could never find it. I took my best girl friend and she found it in about 45 seconds.
  18. What?? Must be one big parking lot! Uhhh... I thought from the first post you were maybe... using "writers embellishment" as David Letterman used to say. Now I'd really like to see links to 3 or 4 fake finds in one parking lot. Oh, yeah, and his complaints about using a lot of gas to get to them. In my neck of the woods parking lots are often interconnected. The place I am referring to has 4-5 parking lots that are all connected. Often you can float around and get 2-3-4 caches without having to go back into the street.
  19. I've never found a tribute cache, but there is a cache that I've yet to find, it's a tough one, that is in the same place a girl was murdered. The cache was there first, but the couple times I've looked for it she is all I can think about.
  20. Wow, you've been Geocaching 2 days and things irk you already, give it a few months and you'll fit right in with the angry, grumpy oldtimers that are regulars here. I can't see myself getting to upset over much other than lack of maintenance. I love all the caches I've found. I just hate that so many good spots are on hold because of poor maintenance.
  21. Sounds like you made this park and grab a little harder than you needed to. Mmmmhmmm...the geocaching app's driving directions can often lead you to the "back" of a park. This happened a couple times and I've learned that if a cache is at the back end of a park the driving directions will often lead me to the house on the OTHER side of the park, leading you to think you have to walk through strange areas, when really...you just have to go over to the next street.
  22. Of course not. Heck, some people even like cabbage. I love boiled cabbage and I love micros. Eww. I don't like either. Is Toz starting to take up the whole "people find them because they enjoy them" angle in the long absence of Sbell111? Trust me, I know several tens of thousands of cache finders who hold their noses every time they lift a skirt in a parking lot. Finding does not = enjoying. Finding equals, I don't know, finding everything that gets listed on Geocaching.com as a Geocache? I just get a high from finding them. Maybe I will change someday, but I've been doing this for almost 2 years and I love any find. They THRILL me. I just love the hidden world that is geocaching.
  23. Of course not. Heck, some people even like cabbage. I love boiled cabbage and I love micros.
