  1. yea, if you read the logs for Kilroy's Engine 122 (hope thats right) its medallion seems to have gone missing . It's true that the tag has been separated from my bug, but at least my bug is still in the race. I've been holding first place for quite a while now, but since the tag went missing I've noticed that my bug is not as appealing to cachers. At this stage of the game I think I want to ride under the radar anyway. Sorry to hear of the trouble with Gripper, I've had him and the rest of the top five bugs in the race on my watch list, and was enjoying the competition. I've always thought the special tags would have this effect. The sad part is that the only bug that would make a good Trophy for me is my own, I guess some others dont feel that way. 2. Congratulations to our new second place runners, what an impressive distance, over 600 miles in one move. WTG; Hampton Roads Virginia Welcome Wagon and Cannonball Run 04 Roadracer II. Good luck to all racers. Team Kilroy was here!
  3. My TB has traveled over 2 thousand miles, all the way in the hands of experienced cachers. now within 450 mi of winning the race a Newbie has grabbed my Bug and says they dont understand what to do with it. My streak of luck in the race my have just run out! I am now thinking Positive thoughts, hoping it will help my Bug through this stressful time. Good luck to all racers. Team Kilroy was here!
  4. Has everyone forgotten about the race! Just wanted to Bump this Thread!
  5. How's this for coinsidence; I set-up a Geocache based on the movie Shawshank Redemption. If your not familiar the main character (prior to escaping prison) tells the supporting actor, if he ever gets out, to find a box hidden in a stone wall, in a town called Buxton (ie; The First Geocache). When I had the idea for this cache I had no idea that Iowa ever had a Buxton, but a Google search came back with a deserted town in south central Iowa, and one of the only remaining structures was a Stone Wall (sadly that is on private property so the cache is not in it). The main actor also told the supporting actor where he would like to spend the rest of his life, (Zihuatanejo, Mexico). Then the really unbelievable part, a TB "Idaho Bluebird" was picked up in Zihuatanejo, Mexico; and with only one stop in between, (and unknown to the cacher) placed in "Buxton - Red's Cache". Look for your self; http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=84758 Read the Bug page; http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=60973 Is this game for real.
  6. It seemed like the talk about last years race centered around alot of interference, like taking racers to seldom visited caches, or taking them the wrong direction on purpose. In light of this fact I think this years race is off to a much nicer start. Its great of you to try and help so many racers get moving. My race entrant is in third position and most racers are being left behind quite rapidly. It will be nice to see the race get a little more competitive. I'm expecting my Bug to pick up One maybe Two more states over the weekend. Anyone else have big moves expected? Good luck to all, you never know when someone traveling will pick up a bug and log caches half way across the country. Look at the race leader for proof of that.
  7. Snoogans; I see that someone, that seems to be aware that your Bug is in a race east took your Inbread Bug back to AZ. Sorry, its fun watching the Bugs trade positions. Good Luck with your next finder. My Engine #122 is in third place and headed directly towards me, if it gets close enough I'll grab it, and have a chance to give it a good boost in the race. Good Luck to all! Team Kilroy was here!
  8. Not wanting to Gloat. But; a new group of TB's have moved into the lead, and my Engine #122 is one of them, and they are already on the move again. I have been asking for cachers to split up the Bugs, so they spread out more, and give more people a chance to participate in the race, but to this point I haven't had any luck on that point with my group. Maybe this move they will separate. Good Luck to all. Team Kilroy was here!
  9. Especially with the tag that NYGC attached to each of our TB's, I expect to see alot go to the trophy case. Hopefully that does not happen though. Good Luck with your bug.
  10. This cache may be of interest here. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=6550
  11. I've had the unfortunate result of having a Bug Owner get really pissed at me for picking up their Bug while on vacation, upon arriving home and loging my find I find out that I took it 200 mi. in the wrong direction. I immediately sent the owner an E-Mail letting them know I had no idea of the Bugs goal at the time I picked it up. Then I suggested they attach a note to their Bugs so people would know if they could help the Bug reach its goal, "Man did they get pissed at that". I wish I'd saved the E-Mail. I guess from now on, if a Bug doesn't have a tag on it stating it's goal, I'll let it rot in the cache it's in, so I dont get myself in that situation again. I thought people liked TB's to see where they go, but they will go alot less if they don't have the goal listed as far as I'm concerned.
  12. Well to this point I've had very little luck in the race, but have moved from 47th place to 42nd place with out actually moving, so at least i'm not moving backwards. New York is still in need of more Fire Trucks, so Go "Engine #122" Go.
  13. WOW! I can't imagine anyone selling a GPS V, but good job. My choice also.
  14. I would strongly agree! If you dont want to see more than what the basic map on the cache page gives dont look, and if you can't control yourself, maybe you should go back to a Dial-Up MODEM, so it takes so long you can't stand to wait. All kidding aside, leave them alone and we can all decide, how we want to use them.
  15. Have just placed a THHGTTG cache in central Iowa.By-Pass I am also in the process of getting permission for a Marvin Cache in a small park named Optimist Park, I thought Marvin could stand a couple of million years there, maybe even another million going backwards.
  16. Thanks for the info. I've added it to my watch list, hope it comes my way soon.
  17. I kept an eye out and now my ears have fallen upon good fortune: The TB has successfully found me! Maybe you could give the travel bug a push in my direction, central Iowa. Possibly to my new THHGTTG Cache BY-PASS, which was just approved today. I've got all five books of the series in MP3 format read by Douglas Adams himself, approx 6hrs each. I just started rereading them last week while I drive to work. Half the time I dont remember the three stop signs along the way.
  18. quote:Originally posted by BeachBuddies:I did some quick analysis (not thorough yet). It looks like the average find-to-hide ratio is about 20-to-1. That's where it is for me too; I've found 110 or so, and hidden 5. So, if you one of those who has found 100 and not hidden any -- get out there and hide some! That sounds like a really reasonable guideline. If you have found 10 caches its time to start thinking about hiding your first cache, then by the time you have found 40 your ready to place some high quality caches. If your in central Iowa please follow these guidelines as we could really use some new Quality caches.
  19. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat: quote:Yeah, but I'm sure that's because you have found most of the nearby caches, right? Hardly. There are 228 caches within 20 miles of my house and 2,048 within 100 miles. I only have 11 caches within 20 miles of my house, and I own 7 of them. I think a better measure is how much it costs you to find a cache. Some days I might spend 40-50 dollars just to find a cache or two.

Instead of putting presents under the Christmas tree, you put pieces of paper with coordinates & tell your family they have to find their gifts. Actually. I'm gonna do that. Thanks for the idea. Thats really funny! as I was driving home from work tonight I was thinking of doing that very thing.
  22. Being the father of a 14yr old daughter, I can say I worry when she is an hour late, and can't even imagine what you must be feeling. I will be praying for her safe return.
  23. quote: You just have to lead them to a location say a couple of hundred years off the trail with reflective material. Sounds like a pretty long hike ( couple hundred years) A UV trail would be tough to do. Will a UV flash light make regular reflect tape shine? Or would the searchers have to have two kinds of lights to find a cache
  24. Yes that model only has DD MM.MM accuracy, which leaves you with about 40 ft of error making your search circle much bigger than most other cachers. Not all bad though, it sharpens your search skills.
