I wouldn't obsess over the word "near." To help posters who are nervous about that, consider one of the goals of the guideline: the event should take place at a location where local geocachers will find it convenient (and free) to attend. The event cannot be just for cruise participants, people who happen to be connecting to another flight in Terminal C, etc.

Sadly, today I have archived Britain's most awarded favourite point cache, Tin Pan Alley Band. The continuing building works at GZ has changed the whole scene of the cache location and it is unlikely to return to its former self. Do read the final log with all the statistics for the band, it makes interesting reading. and finally, thank you everyone who did find this cache and also awarded it Favourite points. Goldpot

I used to use Heatmap.
I now use something else that does complete statistics.
Although I only use one map I believe there are quite a few options.
View my profile to see typical output.
It half slows down my computer!!!

Wellies, Aldi £7.99.
Had them 7 years and have never got my feet wet.
Wellies here too!
Had them for 15 years and got them for free from work!
Not only have they kept my feet dry, but I never had a bister from wearing them or slipped on wet rocks either, so unlike my expensive treking boots!

... But I've come up with a solution!
... and it comes from the world of computer databases. What you do, is you keep a box of 3x5 cards, one for each grave, giving the details of who is there, and the location of the grave. And then it's cheap and easy to maintain the box of cards in alphabetical order, and you could even put the database online.
Yep, look what we did quite some time ago: Exeter cemeteries
I cannot resist to ask, but did this task come to a dead end?

Greetings all,
I have tried a number of times recently to update my UK Heat Map but to no avail.
Are there any other cachers having problems uploading too, or is it just me!
-
...update for goldpot on number of countries cached:
Total today reached 34.
Found caches in the UAE yesterday and in Oman today [] and nearly got arrested for doing so! [], but that's another story!
Not that I'm spliting hairs, but Luzian, at number 2, is a Swiss!
Bye for now, thinking of you all back in freezing cold Blighty.

Have a caching New Year too!
May I wish everyone this year fewer DNFs, no bites and stings and only meet friendly bulls!

If you are planning to eat chesnuts close to Hyde Park in the near future,I reckon I know where they came from....
...and there I was thinking that I was eating cashew nuts in my Chinese takeaway!

What you have there are beech nuts on a beech tree. Sweet Chestnuts are much bigger almost like a golf ball and lots of thin spikes on that hurt what you try and pick them up. They look like smaller conkers.
Fagus sylvatica to be precise!
Yes but its still not Castanea sativa although they are in the same plant family.
...meaning the Fagaceae family?

Sorry to contradict again, but it seems to be OK here!
..phew! It was just a blip...we hope.

The guessing game is always the fun part!
Not seen (m)any guesses.....
There's so many Reviewers now, I guess nobody really cares any more!!
...or is it the case now that who is not a reviewer!
-
well its bloody well down for maintenance again
...at probably the worst possible time when we all want to plan our caching weekend!
It looks like I'm going to be on domestic duties this weekend if this web-site doesn't kick in soon

We allocate them when we think a cache deserves it .... but still have 412 unused!
I can beat that; 431!

The tree was right next to the stream which runs through the wood, may be all the rain we've been having has undermined the root system.
Rain? What rain? In fact what is rain???

A new trick I have found is to select all caches in London (you can do other regions too) through the 'Hide and Seek' tab then click on the blue rosette and it will list in order the highest total 'Favorite' caches.
One of mine is up the top.

Coming up very soon we will have over 100 cachers in this country with over 5,000 finds...is that sad or not

Does anyone know who puts the caches out in North Devon? We'd love to get one on our Cafe which is right by the Hilsborough Fort Nature Reserve in Ilfracombe - We have had visits from several caching people and would like to offer the Caching community a discount on pre or post walk refreshments - Thought it would add to their day - Anyone got any ideas on how I'd do this??
Any help appreciated,
Why not set up the cache you have in mind yourself? Just follow the intructions on the hide and seek page.

Seems to be back up again.
Don't speak so soon! It's very jumpy at the mo.

This was the announcement post made about an hour ago:
So we just need to sit tight and wait for the glue to set... or something.
MrsB
Don't really want to be glued to the chair.

Well, that didn't take long at all.
...to break down again!!!!

I don't believe it! Maintenance on a Friday evening! Twice in one week.
If it ain't broken please don't fix it!

London, England calling:
We could organise an event for you during your visit to the capital.
If so, do let us know what day and where in London you would like it to take place.

So, events at transport hubs can take place so as long as ALL Geocachers can participate in the event itself? So, for example an event at a railway station's cafe that is opened to the public is ok?
