  1. If you can find a cache big enough, that is S
  2. With the upcoming mega event, and associated camping, we're considering upgrading our tent. There's 4 of us (2 adults, 6yr old and 4yr old). Our current tent is looking a bit battered (it has a bit of storm damage and cat-claw damage). In Argos, catalogue no 340/9237, there's a ProAction Nevada 8 person tent for £160 quid. Anyone got experience of that tent, or able to recommend something better for the same sort of price? (I can't really go up from that amount) Thanks, Simon
  3. Either Abercynon (North of Cardiff), or Chepstow. Simon
  4. As have I - and I would probably class it as one of the most fun caches I've done - sat at the top of the tree signing the log, and waiting for people to wander away before I descend again... Simon
  5. What's shipping to the UK like? Expensive? Slow? Edit: Just noticed that their free shipping is for worldwide. Might have to give them a try... S
  6. Of course, the problem with a watertight box, is if any water gets into it (e.g. by being found in the rain), there's no way for the water to escape, so it just stays there, and festers... Simon
  7. Would you be willing to ship? Is it likely to be expensive? Otherwise, where's the current best place to pick up ammo boxes? Maybe I should try to track down an army surplus store near here... Simon
  8. Gah... Our favourite part of the country for camping, and it's the weekend of our daughter's birthday ( + party). Ho hum
  9. So, if I read this correctly, and in relation to the events that (as I understand it) have affected us in the UK, the changes can be summarised down to: A cache listing can mention a local business (e.g. pub or campsite) if it's not the main reason for the cache, but it cannot link to the business' website A charity can be mentioned in a forum post as long as it's not the sole reason for the forum thread, and the thread is otherwise geocaching related All other business/charity mentions (including web links) require permission from Groundspeak Sound like a fair interpretation?
  10. We were hoping to come along to the event tomorrow, but our daughter has sprung out in a load of spots which look like they could be chickenpox - but she's otherwise okay. Do you think it'd be okay if we came along with her anyway, or should we all stay at home? Simon
  11. ... because then I could get FTF on all the caches before they were published!
  12. Well volunteered that man. You've got the job. Simon
  13. Okay, I know we don't get to influence anything, but... In 200 words or less, state why you think that you'd be a great reviewer. For the purposes of this (and to allow some creative responses), forget rules from above. I would make an ideal new reviewer for the UK because...
  14. So do we need to start a campaign for a new cache type? S
  15. Perhaps by being open about which article it is, it'll become a spoiler for the cache?
  16. Does anyone know if there are any family rooms at the Cedar Court? I've just tried looking on the hotel's own booking site, which won't let me choose any children at all, and expedia just says the hotel can't accomodate the number of people I want to book if I try there... If not, I guess we'll have to find a more family friendly hotel nearby...
  17. Sorry - I've not bought or seen one of your calendars before... What are these calendars like? A4 and spiral-bound? Are you printing them yourself, or getting them professionally printed? Have you got a sample page layout online somewhere? Thanks, Simon
  18. So, resurrecting an old thread of mine... Last weekend we went to Centerparcs again, and I was pleased to see that the "Geo Cache" was still being offered as an activity, so I (based on the experience from last year) booked the activity on the Friday night. The lady doing the booking had to search around to find it on the computer, but eventually found it under Watersports - so I started to wonder what was in store :-) Anyway, Saturday afternoon I turned up as the Adventure Golf kiosk, where they run the activity from. After a while, two other teams arrive (a couple, and a family), and the staff member starts running through the briefing. We're all issued with a Garmin Geko 201, which he then proceeds to instruct us in how to set waypoints on (if we forgot, there's a 30 step instruction card in the map carrier that we're also given). Quite why we were given an OS map of the area I don't know... Shortly afterwards, we're set on our way. First thing of note is that they do did it all using OS Grid References, rather than Lat/Long (so I had to quickly reprogram my Legend that I'd taken with me). We were given the grid reference of the first waypoint, and a clue. We were to find a plaque at the waypoint location, with details of the next waypoint. In all, there was 6 waypoints to find around the village, with the final one being back at the starting point. At each waypoint was a laminated card giving the coordinates of the next waypoint, a clue ("Large brown post" or "Near the key bin"), and also a password to prove you'd visited the waypoint. According to my GPS, it was a circular walk of about 2.5 miles, which included a reasonable amount of altitude change (if you've been to Longleat Centerparcs, you'll know what I'm talking about!). As per the original advert (above), there was a prize for the first team back (um, yeah, that'll be me then :-) ), which turned out to be a free round of Adventure Golf. All in all, an enjoyable activity, and surprisingly close to proper geocaching. It was just a shame that there was no mention of or reference to geocaching.com Simon
  19. I must say, I can't spot any difference. Simon
  20. I was going to suggest that, but the OP said that the Bookmark list only contains 170 out of 220 MM caches. I'd suggest persuading whoever maintains the Bookmark list to update it with the missing 50. (I must admit, I've been assuming that the bookmark list was complete) Simon
  21. I've got about 23 running, which was the last time I could be bothered to work out all the dates I needed (creating the PQs was enough of a faff even know the date ranges). Given that I like to have a full set in MemoryMap / TomTom, what's the easiest way to do it? I don't care about having the logs, so I don't care about keeping all the caches up to date - I just want to know where all the caches are, what type they are, and whether they're active or not. I've got a "caches placed in the last week" PQ which works reasonably well at adding all the new ones - but how best to keep the database of old ones updated? I'm happy to do it semi manually. I know that GCUK have a download - but last time I tried importing it into GSAK, it blatted all the cache types, etc. Any thoughts? Simon
  22. Just been out to buy the Xmas tree, so I guess it's time for the Xmas avatar, too...
