There are 35 total caches within 10 miles of my house, of which I have 5 unfound and I own 1. I had one left that is boat access only, and the other 4 are less than a month old.

CASEMT used to start his caches with CASEMT site #1: <cache name>. At some point, he removed the "prefixes". If you look at when his caches were published, assuming all of his first few caches were published, it should be the second one he placed. You can send me a PM (or post on the ORC board), with where it was located, and i'll see what I can do.

A friend of mine tried to get a cache listed that used the same setup (coordinates to a starting point and clues from there), but it got turned down because it was deemed to not be a geocache because the finder didn't need a GPSr to find the container. I wonder if he'd included coordinates to the cache container AND the clues if it would have been accepted because a finder could either use the coordinates to the container OR use the clues. Is this the crux of the issue with letterbox-hybrids? One way to get around this, is to put the starting coords for the Hybrid 1.5 miles into the woods, and start the Letterbox clues from there...

Yup...this happens when the sun gets hotter, which there is much evidence of that, with Mars being a great example. Come on you pair. Mars atmosphere is less than 1% in volume than that of earth. However it warms the planet about 5 degress Celsius. Consisting of 98% CO2 would prove that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Why don't you use Venus. Oh thats right. Its atmosphere is 98% CO2 and is about 10% of the volume of Earth and warms the planet to about 487 degrees Celsius. If you are going to try and debunk the populations effect on Global warming use better arguments and not some kindergarten science facts. OK, Venus is getting hotter as well. I guess all the Woman on Venus are driving around in their SUV's causing global warming there too? The Sun is going through a cycle that is making all the planets hotter, just not Earth. On a side note, almost all of the "greenhouse gases" percentage wise in our atmosphere is H2O. Should we get rid of the water too? That too would cool the planet significantly. I agree that most of the Letterbox Hybrids listed on this site are only a traditional with a stamp and pad and most aren't crosslisted. With the changes in the posting guidelines, I decided that I wanted to create one that has Letterbox clues. The way I did mine was to have the starting coords at a start of a trail .74 miles from parking as the crow flies, then started my letterbox clues from there. In reality, you could follow what I wrote in the description without using the coords at all. Mine's not crosslisted as of yet, but will at some point. By the guidelines I supsect you are right. However what's the point of a letterbox if you just walk up to it and sign the log? That's a cache. Not a letterbox. A hybrid should have the elements of a letterbox. A cache with the ALR of leaving your mark in the form of a stamp in the cache log is just an ALR cache. I think I made a good example of a Letterbox Hybrid. The coords put in at the starting point to the letterbox directions. I have not cross posted it to LBNA for various reasons, but may in the future. Still comes back to gc.com being a listing service, and the cacher is logging caches that are not listed on this particular listing service just to bump ones find count on this service. So it really IS about the numbers... True, gc.com is simply a listing service... and as of now the site is built in such a way that allows multiple logging of caches. Until TPTB step in and say "NO" what difference does it make how the individual users count their finds. After all, it's just a listing service, right? I think at this point, TPTB let this go on for so long, that if they do decide to take it away, the vocal minority will rise up pitch forks and all... The only real way to resolve this is by the community frowning upon this and also leading by example and not allowing multiple attended logs for temp caches at events, or better yet (as i read above) spend the time and place permenant ones instead of temps as has happened on both or our hosted CITO's, and other events I have attended... That sounds like a plan, but honestly... I just don't understand why it matters! For various other reasons, I would frown upon multiple (or dishonest as in logged but did not find) logs on other types of caches. (for more information on this, I largely agree with everything Briansnat says so just reference his posts on the subject) But for events... I just don't see what the big deal is. How is it hurting either you or the community at large? PS. If the event host doesn't feel that multiple attend logs are appropriate... then I feel the event host is justified in deleting multiple logs. If they don't care... then neither do I. If your would frown upon logging multiple times on a traditional cache, why not an event? It still does the same thing...artificially increment ones find count...

I think what most people fail to realize is that gc.com is nothing more than a listing service with tools to help people find what they list, caches. Logging temp caches as extra attended logs at events is nothing more than finding a way (that TPTB just happen to not frown upon) to log caches that are not listed on gc.com. An analogy is someone logging any cache(or event) twice b/c they found a Navicache or a terracache or a LBNA box.

I don't believe you are doing anything wrong. I copied mine out of FF as well, but have had issues in the past at my job with IE. The issue may be that I'm running v7 and you are running v6. Hopefully others with issues (or not) will chime in with what version they are running. There may be a difference in the macro engine between those two versions.

I also could not get this to work. In fairness, it's the first time I've ever tried a macro in GSAK. I have no idea how to debug error messages. Is a particular version of GSAK needed in order for this macro to work correctly? ::: Kicking myself for not doing this work BEFORE my Memorial Day weekend roadtrip to pick up a bunch of DeLorme Grids ::: The script worked flawlessly for me, and I've used it on many occations. I have the most recient version of GSAK. One thing you could try is copying the script out of wherever you got it initially from (probably this thread) and paste it into notepad then copy it out of there and into GSAK. Some of microsofts programs, most notably MSWord & outlook, if you copy something out of it, and paste it into another program, microsoft has control characters in there that you can't see. These control characters sometimes muck with parser programs, like the macro engine. If you used IE, this could be the issue.

Ray, you need to slow down on your finds, you are over working the hampsters, and Keystone didn't get the supply of Chemical X to them in time...next week, don't cache so much...

I'd say hop on eBay and pick up a palm pilot that can do all the caching stuff for ~$20.

A Globally Unique Identifier or GUID is a pseudo-random number used in software applications. Each generated GUID is "statistically guaranteed" to be unique. This is based on the simple principle that the total number of unique keys ( or ) is so large that the possibility of the same number being generated twice is virtually zero.

This also shows Will Attend logs further out than 30 days. I submitted one earlier this month for an event that isn't until 8/25/2007 and shouldn't be showing up until the end of july. Although I think the Will Attend should include all events in the future that you have marked as will attend.

I agree with bogleman. There is nothing I hate more than to go to a page and have blinking text or music/video blaring at me. I close those window immediately.

Create one. That's what we did last year. Now this year, we had our 2nd Annual cleanup, and have seen more closer since our first one.

Do you mean something like this? The problem was that when I loaded up the My Finds GPX file, it uses that newly added time slider thingie. If I expanded it out to include the "whole" time, i see everything I need. I guess the confusion was the fact that I didn't notice that change between this version and the previous one, and that the delorme KML was disappearing until i got the slider to the date it was created. what a stupid default "feature" IMO.

What's funny is that my fiance just said the same thing friday...

When I loaded in My Finds GPX file into Google Earth, all the GC numbers are checked, but I only see 1 or 2 caches pushpins. If I click on a GC number in the list, it shows the bubble of where it should be, but no pushpins. Also, I had a DeLorme Challenge KML loaded into Google Earth, I couldn't see both MyFinds GPX and the DeLorme Challenge KML at the same time. If I uncheck the GPX, i see the DeLorme pushpins. Is there a way to see both GPX and a KML at the same time?
