  1. They are not difficult and you can score six in one day! Whats more there is a nice walk around a forest as well. If you want to travel 'Room 101' and 'Combe and find me' have exceptional veiws if you don't mind hills. I won't mention mine though....

    Thanks

  3. But I am looking forward to getting there!

I am going to score some caches in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany on our 'European Tour' in June. If you want me to drop off some bugs please let me know or place them near to me and I will see what I can do.

  4. I have pposted warnings on both my Caches at Calleva (Roman Remains and Roman Coins).

I suspect this will put people off but at least I won't feel guilty if somebody does get broken into. I have suggested some alternative parking that may be safer.

I would also like to add that I have visited Calleva dozens of times and never had or seen any trouble there. On my last visit before placing the Cache my car was the only one in the car park and the place was deserted and all was OK.

  6. Saved about 25 quid on the eMap/data cable/16 Mb Memory card/Metroguide Europe bundle from the site in the title (Compared with GPS Warehouse). I will say that prices do vary. GPS warehouse have Garmin compatible products which are cheaper (Data cables, Car mounts etc).

My Gripe is with Garmins Memory card prices. I thought Sony were ripping me off with Memory Stick pricing until I tried to buy a 128MB Garmin Card. Would you believe they want two thirds the price of the eMAap for a poxy 128MB memory card. That is highway robbery. I have complained to Garmin. I would suggest if you are unhappy with pricing you complain as well, as if enough of us do this it may make a difference. Remember that all suppliers of GPS equipment cut the margins fine (I would be surprised they make 10% on a sale).

  8. Why not have a bit in the description so that if they want a clue they have to email an address for the clue.

You could use a free Email account and set up an automated response to mails which would send back the clue. That way you could post a hall of shame for people who felt inclined to use the cheat.

Of course this does not help if you are stood at the cache site scratching your head icon_confused.gif

  10. As a lot of caches are hidden in rural areas we often have our guard down. In fact places like this are often the best spots for car thieves.

I think the best solution is to carry backpacks and leave nothing in the car whatsoever. I carry all my valubles with me although my wife has sometimes left her handbag in the boot (I will discourage that from now on).

There may be something to be said for parking somewhere that does not make it obvious you are going to ba away for a long while.

Anything left in the car is an invite for a smash and grab car thief. These sort of theives are not bothered about car alarms because by the time you have returned they will have gone anyway.

  12. I think you will will find they have copyrighted the interface technology that these memory cards used so there is no competition. That way they can fleece us. I have even called Garmin and emailed them for what use it will be. I even got a person at Garmin UK to agree they were expensive. She said 'I could not believe it when I saw how much they were being sold for'. Anyway I can save myself 50 quid by getting the Memory from the US. Even more if customs don't get me!

  14. I saw a baby Slow Worm while doing Room 101 last weekend. I used to be able to catch them. I did not even try with this one. It went like the clappers.

I Saw a Green Woodpecker (Like on the cider bottles) when I did 'I left my Heart...'

There is a point to this. We should all take take not to trample our precious wildlife areas, and if anybody finds a cache site that has animals that could be disturbed (Such as nests etc) they really should be suspended (or moved)until the the chicks have fledged and gone.

I don't know about you but I have been lifing up branches and checking loose cover with my walking pole as these are the sort of places that Snakes like to hide...

  16. In June I am touring Europe starting in Norway. I hope to get a good number of caches in during my travels icon_smile.gif. However I wanted to upgrade the RAM in my eMap and discovered that a 128 MB module costs £200. Compare that to any other memory technology and it is more than double the cost for the same amount of RAM.

I was wondering if anybody knows if there is another manufacturer production eMap compatible memory and if there are any good websites for purchasing Garmin Memory on the cheap.

    Thanks

  18. Garmin are in negociation with OS regarding data format and costs. The only Topo maps in the pipeline are UK ones. It is unlikely that you will see them this year according to the guy I spoke to. If you want to pester them a bit here are their details.

  20. Wy wife and I are going on a driving tour of Europe this year and I thought it would be nice to take a GPS. So I started looking for a GPS that would do for walking and for driving and came up with the eMap. During my research on the Internet I stunmbled upon Groundspeaks website and I thought I would give it a go. Did my first Cache on the 26th (The Queens Oak and Queens Oak virtual cache) and to my surprise found another cache only half a mile from where I work in Binfield (Tweetie Pie). This one was really tricky but I did find it after 20 minites of looking. I think I am hooked now...

    Thanks
