  1. That Jar-Jar Binks (I think that's how you spell it) picture is getting to me. I would suggest a picture of an axe as a good alternative ;-). Cheers Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  2. It works in countries with large open (Free access) areas but you tend to find that most of this country is owned by somebody. The chances of a legitiamte random waypoint is quite small. I would imagine finding a location using a random waypoint would be frustrating at best. Worth a try Pid but make sure there are legal access rights and parking available. The central reservation of the M40 is not a good loaction!!! On the more positive side this could lead to caches placed in unusual places. That is a good thing. It is refreshing to find a cache such as The Lock in Newbury or The Oracle in Reading as it makes a change from thrashing through undergrowth and being stung and bitten by the Flora and Forna. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  3. So blinking obvious and I did not think of it. I will place the screensaver CDs in caches as well as the normal exchange. But I will be happy to supply CDs to the people who provide photos (I may not be able to get to caches near to where people who have contributed. Welcome to the hobby Good Shephards. I only started in March so I consider myself a 'newbie' as well. Looking forward to the photos. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  4. I need the Geocache name, its waypoint (GCXXXX) and your Geocaching handle/name so I can label the photo on the screensaver. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  5. I have purchased a screen-savewr program that will create a one click install of the screen saver. With all the submissions and a lot of my photos it is just about workable, however I really could do with some more pics. So far the majority of pics are from south of the Watford Gap. To balance it out I need more photos from Northern England and Scotland. The screensaver is currently 50 Meg. I will not be able to post it on my (Freeserve) website but will happily post a copy free of charge to all contributors.I will need a postal address of anybody who has supplied photos. Alternatively I may be able to sort out some webspace to enable broadband Internet users to download the file. All I am asking for is photos, in return I will provide you a nice screensaver and will even pay for the CD and postage! PID, I never got your mail with the photo. Could you send it again please. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  6. And I will definately visit it when I am next up that way. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]
  7. I guess this is to get round 'GPS proof' Car Windscreens. My eMap works fine in the car. I would buy anything that would help me find Caches under trees but I don't fancy lugging a car battery about and/or wiring myself up so I look like a Borg. Cheers Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.]

  9. I think I have over a dozen pics so far. I will add some of my own as well. Please keep them coming! I will credit each photo with a superimposed bit of text on each Pic so you will be immortalised for ever! PID, for some reason I did not recieve your Email. If you could resend it then I would appreciate it. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. 10. Sat in my car as there were people about. This was my very first cache find. Got to say I am not photogenic. I did it at lunchtime as I work in Binfield. Seems like this cache has 'broken in' more than one Geocacher. Still think it is a great hiding place. Paragraph that was here has now been removed as it was wrong ;-) . Will not say any more about it. It's not worth the effort. Is there any chance of putting names to faces in the slideshow when you have enough feedback? Glad the pic of PID did not come out. I suspect he is a nutter and god knows what he was doing in the picture he took. Probably involved an axe though. 12. Why not look in the log and flame the people who left the 'tat'. That should lead to an interesting thread. Personally if a cache is short of stuff I put something into it and take nothing. You may find after checking the logs that the good stuff was pinched and in fact Cachers were not to blame. 13. That's a good camera. Up until the beginning os this wek I have been using my Sont DCR TRV-30 Camcorder for Ditial Photography(1.5 Megapixel). It's a little big (and expensive) to be carrying around all the time so I purchased a Sony 2 Megapixel camera which is great. My work collegue purchased a Finepix 1.3 Megapixel the same week and we compared photos. It compared well with my Sony 2 Megapixel. The fuji did not look so good when zoomed but we are talking about image sizes A4+ here. The fuji will be fine as long as you don't want really big pictures. I would suggest taking pictures at maximum resolution and resising them using something like Paintshop Pro on your PC. That way you can have smaller pics suitable for the web that are pleasant to the eye. 14. I want to make a screen saver and put a gallery up on my website with good photos of views from cache locations. If anybody has good cache photos they would be happy to share I would be happy to include them. Of course the screensaver will be free and I will make it available once I have enough pics to make it. If you are feeling charitable please Email your pics to cfranklin@saratoga.co.uk (My work Email which is broadband so the bigger the pic the better it will look). Please include the Cache Name and Waypoint and location (Town and County) as this will save me having to look it up. If you could include you Geocaching login name I will credit the picture in the screensaver. If you could log a reply to this thread with details of what you have sent me. Please do not send photos are spoilers for cache locations. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. 15. I want to purchase a second GPS and have been poking about looking at specs on the internet. What I think I want is: -No mapping capability. Already got it on the eMap -Electronic Compass -Good charecteristics when there is not much sky available. -Waterproof -WAAS capability I saw a make called MLR. Never heard of them but this is how they are desribed at GPS Warehouse: ************************************************ Handheld GPS - MLR SP24 GPS Navigator The new SP24 handheld GPS incorporates MLR's latest technology to give you the ultimate performance. The dual acquisition 12 parallel channel receiver searches for 24 satellites simultaneously, resulting in a 12-second warm start position fix. Phaselock technology provides 3m accuracy and excellent speed sensitivity. The SP24 will even operate when you are walking in the woods! Designed for one-handed operation, both the screen and keypad are backlit for ease of use day or night. ************************************************ The bit about operating in woods interested me. I don't think this model has an electronic compass but I am seriously considering if it lives up to its description. Can anybody recommend a GPS that fits my requirements of perhaps my requirements are a bit over the top. For instance I have heard WAAS is only availible in the US because the WAAS compatible satellites(2 of them) are not located in a good postion for a WAAS fix in the UK. Any advice and recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century. 16. Tried V4 Mapsource file with my user profile and only caches I have not found and it worked flawlessly. This will save me a lot of time and effort. 18. I would use it. I understand the scripting used to pull down the cache details from Geocaching.com that other sites use(such as the Palmable indicies site)is a bit of a contentious issue so be careful. 19. Lazy Leopard This only started happening when I upgraded to 4.0.8(Beta). I think it may be an 'Enhancement' from 4.0.8 onwards. Don't think you can do much about it (apart from downgrading). 20. If we are going to have a dicussion forum containing cache adverts why not add some value? I would like to know what caches involve a short walk, long walk, could be cycled, are suitable for prams and wheelchairs etc. It is not possible to get such information without ploughing through cache descriptions. Even then you may not get the information. Perhaps some intelligently thought out thread subjects could enhance things. Any ideas? If we are going to start a separate forum lets think carefully how it would be structured as to add value to information provided. I still fail to understand why it cannot be done on this forum but as has already been said- I accept other peoples points of view even if I may not agree with them. 22. With Avant-go and a number of channels set up from a website called palmable indices which has cache listings in a format that makes them very presentable on a handheld. I used this setup on holiday in Europe and found it very useful. Saves paper as well!!! 24. Stinging nettles are a good deterrent to prevent unwanted people finding a cache. I did caches in Europe that suffered them too. If I had my way caches under dense tree cover would be banned But there we go stingers are part of it. Just think how I felt in Denmark a week ago gently wading though stingers in shorts trying to find 'The Nokia Cache'. Got stung so bad I could still feel the stingers a day later. Whats more I lost my GPS case and failed to find it. Chris LASSITUDE- (noun) Tiredness and apathy: a state of weariness accompanied by listlessness or apathy[15th century.
