  1. It seems the argument against this type of cache is the fact that people lost lives in most crashes. Well, since many of the virtual caches out there are historical markers that commemorate (commemorate may be the wrong word, but I don't want to think much harder) battles in which people lost their lives, just petition your state to put a historical marker at the crash site. Maybe then some peoples views will change. But I'm not counting on it. Wes
  2. I didn't think the Skeeters would be that small in Greenville.
  3. Is there a way to search for caches that require a 4-wheel drive vehicle to access? I know some are out there, but don't want to look through all 700+ caches in Texas to find them. Thanks for the help! NoLuckAmongUs Wes & Annie
  4. EasyGPS is a great program to help you download waypoints into your gps. I use it quite a bit with my Meridian Plat. Also, you are right for inputting waypoints manually, hold down Goto for 2 seconds, enter in all of the information (coords, cache name, icon if you want, etc...) and hit save. If you go to the map screen, it should be on there (you may have to move the cursor to it or zoom out if it is far away). Then when you are ready to find the cache, hit GOTO, highlight User (since you are the one who put in the coordinates) and then on the bottom of the screen you see Find By. You can choose alphabetical, near position, or near city (since most of the cache's I've found so far have just been a few miles away, I use near position). The next screen will be a list of waypoints that are available. Find the name of the waypoint you created for the cache, and hit enter. Now on the map screen there will be a straight line from your current position al the way to the waypoint of the cache. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you even more!! Wes
  5. go to www.digi4me.com, they have a 64MB SD card for $40, not sure of the brand. They also sell a Toshiba 64MB card for $44. Also, a 32MB card is only $22. I ordered from them before and received my products within 3 days, paying just their standard shipping charges. Wes
  6. Unless I overlooked something on the site, that software is for a Palm OS, not Pocket PC...or am I just blind?
  7. what about using one of these "mini" tv screens that every mini-van and expedition now have in them? I think some brands can be found for about $200 or so, and come with all kinds of mounting options. The only other thing needed would be an adapter cable. Wes
  8. You can save a lot of money by shopping online for your GPS and accessories. I bought my Magellan Meridian Platunum from www.planetgps.net for a hair over $300 shipped. This is about $50 less than your local retail store and no sales tax! Also, if you go with a unit that has expandable memory via SD or CF cards, you don't have to go with that brands cards. For example, a 32mb SD card from Magellan is about $80 (minimum!), I bought a Memory Pro brand one from www.digi4me.com for $24, and it works like a champ. I found both of these sites through Yahoo! shopping. Good luck with your research and shopping, and welcome to geocaching! Wes

  11. Noob here, I was just wondering if there is a geocaching chat room anywhere. If so, is it always available or is there a certain day/time when people usually meet? Thanks, Wes

  13. I don't know what the price from Best Buy is for the open box legend, but I just did a search on Yahoo! shopping and found a brand new one with the cable and lanyard for 203.95, plus shipping. I just received my Magellan Meridian the other day, bought it online for about $70 cheaper than any store. I may never go to Best Buy again! Signed, ex best buy junkie =)
